  1. The Philadelphia Eagles had open tryouts once.
  2. "He's full go,'' Bowden said of Woodson following a recent high-octane practice session, spirited with trash-talking throughout, from a team oozing with size, speed and athleticism on both sides of the football. ??
  3. 08/30 - Right Tackle - Andrew Nelson - Undisclosed injury is expected to miss Saturday vs. Akron
  4. Season prediction poll closed, we will revisit in December. This will be the first December I won't be in Miami for years, so I'm sure the Zips will be playing a bowl game in that area this year. Edit: I guess it could be entertaining (for the 33 voters) to keep running stats as the season progresses. Zips Wins - 0 Warren Ball rushing yards - 0 Reception Leaders - Nobody Defensive sacks - 0
  5. Even before this tweet and the lawsuit....things looked grim for KSU. ?
  6. I lean toward this way of thinking. With a Heisman trophy candidate in your backfield, I hand the ball left, hand the right, hand the ball left, and mix in a play action once in awhile. I would make the Zips defense prove they can stop a simple game plan and tackle Barkley. I'm not opening up my playbook for this game unless the Zips force them into a game well into the second half. With the talent the Nittany Lions have on offense, they can beat a lot of teams with multiple game plans.
  7. Nate posted this yesterday, not sure when it was actually filmed.
  8. IMO, the Zips have to run the ball effectively early in the game. They are going to get, and take, a few sideline shots downfield when they get the one on one they like on the outside. The defense will have to show up big and have five or more sack/int/fumbles to help out the offense. Tough task with the talent PSU has on offense. Good day to run the ball, cloudy and a cool 59 degrees. Go Warren go!
  9. I'm pretty confident that if we upset PSU, we will win the MAC east.
  10. We know PSU's quarterback and running back, here is more depth. Yetur Matos, Lamont Wade, and Tariq Castro-Fields will see the field from game one, the rest of the freshmen are in the yellow light category right now. On preparing for Akron defender Ulysees Gilbert, reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Year: The first week of the season is always a bit of a new situation, since you don’t know what this year’s team will look like. Gilbert is a great player, and Akron is treating this like their Super Bowl. Several B1G teams have lost in the last few years to MAC teams, so the team has to be ready. On opposing teams targeting Saquon Barkley on defense: If he were a coach playing Penn State, he’d key on stopping Barkley, and taking away the offense’s strength. Benefit is that McSorley and the receivers made teams pay last year, avoided becoming one-dimensional.
  11. "I am excited to announce that I am continuing my basketball career in Sweden as I will be playing for the KFUM Nassjo Basket. I want to say thank you to everyone who supported me as it helped me to get here."
  12. Looking at a depth chart and noticing the number one returning receiver from last year is not listed has to be questioned. From coaches reaction, I think it come as a surprise to him that he was not listed. I hope this isn't a big deal, but I sure like to have a player with experience in that environment going for me. Especially since everyone else in that group does not have a lot of past production. To me this signals a heavy amount of running the ball in this game considering the environment. Coach mentioning Denzel Bulter was interesting to me, first time I have heard his name mentioned this summer. Nice job going over some of the new rules that could come into play this year too. Saturday weather calling for 64 degrees with pm showers right now. Good day to run the ball.
  13. Discuss your answers below.
  14. Just means Harbaugh is still a numskull. Austin Wolf not listed. Pretty sure he is number one at the Z. Robbie Kelley is a R-Jr. Interesting that Meeks is on the three deep at tight end and not Long or Booker. The rest looks as expected.
  15. Something to keep an eye on: A younger Wolfley brother, Jaden, is a starter at Morgantown High School. He, too, is over 6-foot tall and checks in around 265 pounds. He is bound to play at the next level and could wind up with the WVU football team. Since there is now a connection at Akron, Jaden could be a Zip next year as well. Another point: coach Bowden is from Morgantown.
  16. Freshman Dylan Meeks is listed as TE/DL on the roster. He has spent the summer with the tight end group. At 235 pounds, he probably falls in the same category as Justin Sampson, just needs more time in the weight room to play line. Interesting that (freshman) Sampson is still listed as DE, since it was written that he was transitioning to linebacker. With the current success of the Zips training program, I would expect good things from both in the future. Not losing anybody in the TE group, and gaining MTB next season, I would expect Meeks to move back to D next season.
  17. Per roster update Sammy Laster is now with the Zips. Listed as a linebacker. The once, Top 5 underclassmen linebacker in South Florida in Top 25 prospect in Miami-Dade County for the class of 2017 missed his entire junior season. Laster is 5-foot-11, 190-pounds with sub 4.5 speed as well as sporting a 3.4 GPA with a 22 ACT and 1180 SAT.
  18. Kent State coach Paul Haynes takes leave of absence, out 2-3 weeks Kent State coach Paul Haynes is taking a leave of absence because of medical reasons, the team announced Sunday night. Haynes is expected to be away for two or three weeks, according to a news release. Offensive coordinator Don Treadwell will serve as head coach during Haynes' absence. Kent State opens the season Saturday at No. 5 Clemson.
  19. Kareem Hunt got a lot of glowing reviews after his eight-carry, 40-yard performance at Cincinnati. Replacing Spencer Ware after the first offensive play of the game, West stuck around for 17 snaps with the first-team offense to give coach Andy Reid an extended look, and he added 23 yards on three receptions. All in all, not bad for a few drives' worth of work...The 25-yard run Hunt had was great because he broke a couple of tackles and stiff-armed a defender to pick up a little more yardage, but it ultimately accounted for more than half of his total on the night. While he had three gains for five or more yards, he also had three runs for one yard or less, all in the red zone. Hunt reminded us that while he plays at a good game speed, he's not a burner with breakaway skills -- he ran a 4.62 40-yard dash at the combine. source
  20. Pertaining to Gilbert's comment about the personnel grouping. Maybe it's an interpretation thing, but I see a lot of use from the tight end Mike Gesicki. He seems to be very involved in the play, so much so, that he may be a good read. He lines up off the line often, but also on. Lead blocks on the edge, pass protects in backfield, releases into passing routes too (48 receptions last year). In the USC game, Gesicki pass blocked, lead blocked, and run pass routes from this same personnel and formation. This play was a counter sweep right. Games for review: PSU vs USC PSU vs Pitt
  21. For the members that voted "other" in wide receiver reception leader, who were you thinking? Were you thinking Bickley (like @94zipgrad), or someone else? Dixon, Smith, Stewart, Williams, Wooldridge...? Interesting how close the voting for sack total is. Last year the Zips defense only had fifteen, but were devastated with injury. 2015, the bowl year, they had twenty-five sacks. 2005, the year the Zips won the MAC, they had thirty. The Zips need sacks this year.
