  1. Dropping threes today in Kent at 6:00 PM on ESPNU & ESPN3.
  2. I would love to hear KD expand on the topic.
  3. Good stuff. Dambrot usually entertains on the post game shows. I normally learn something while listening to him....as opposed to coaches like Mike Tomlin, who tell you very little. I like MT, I just skip his pressers. I wonder if this comment is related to scheduling conversations with a new athletic director?
  4. Marla wrote a nice article on Dwight awhile back. The best individual defensive performance in an Akron uniform was put in by Dwight Smith against Kent back in 2000. Because of the cold weather, many probably stayed home. I was lucky enough to see two of the best NFL defensive players in the last two decades that day, Smith vs Harrison. Who would think at the time that both would go on to score TDs and win a SBs!?!? "MACtion before there was #MACtion"™
  5. Seems like they corrected it online. Photography from Michael Christen of the Akron Beacon Journal included in the above article.
  6. Congratulations to ZN members that predicted that the Zips would make 12 or more three pointers, as they bombed 13 more last night!
  7. "Forward Jake Kretzer, center Isaiah Johnson and guard Josh Williams did not practice Monday, Dambrot said. In the case of Johnson and Williams, sprained ankles kept their status Saturday against the Huskies questionable up until game time. Johnson then scored 16 points and Williams delivered 22 points."
  8. I liked the former players and their SB hardware. More images from that day here.
  9. As we get ready for the spring game, it doesn't hurt to take a look back at what the Zips are going to be building on. @ZipsFBVideo has put a 2015 highlight video together. I hope 7 and 13 continue to build on those highlights. Could be special in '16.
  10. Not me. Ray was 245 coming out of the U, and ready for the physical NFL game at the line of scrimmage. Oddly enough, all three LBs being discussed in this thread come from south Florida...one of coach Bowden's most emphasized recruiting areas.
  11. The Zips are eight and a half point favorites. Odds Shark predicts the Zips win, but don't cover.
  12. We will see what teams shows up to his pro day. I will bet it's more than just the Patriots. Also it will be interesting to see if teams have him in for official visits. Teams get 30 official visits with potential draft picks. Local college visits don't count toward those 30, so the Browns and Steelers can have him visit without him counting toward those 30. Some teams put a lot of weight on the visits, some do not. In the past 7 plus drafts about 33 percent of the team that I follow picks came from visits. Jatavis will be well known by the time the draft roles around. Here is an idea of what teams put an emphasis on visits. Awhile back I asked a coach why have in all these visits and not draft anyone that visited. His answer was, that the organization started a file on every player in the NFL and it was a chance to interview 30 kids coming into the NFL even if they were not on their team at the time, they had information for the future if needed. Keep in mind that getting "snubbed" by the national combine isn't the worst thing in the world. Teams only get 15 minutes with those kids, if you have him in for an official visit, you get hours. I would be surprised if Jatavis didn't get some official visits. Specifically because he lacks ideal size but puts on a show when you roll the film. Shazier (sitting on the trainers table) is the exact player I think of when I read about Brown's willingness to move to safety.
  13. Buffalo Bulls vs Akron Zips Bombing commences at the JAR on Tuesday, starting at 7 pm Tuesday's game will be a Dru Joyce bobblehead giveaway to the first 750 fans, the first of a three bobblehead set. Season ticket holders should have received a voucher in the mail which they can redeem for one bobblehead per account at the designated location (by the elevator in the main lobby) at the game. These bobbleheads do not count towards the 750 that are being distributed.
  14. Congratulations to the ZN members listed below. They answered "11 or more" as the Zips BOMBED 15 three pointers against NIU!!! The Zips are now second in the country in three pointers per game.
  15. WalletHub’s number crunchers compared the 245 of the largest U.S. cities based on 18 key metrics, ranging from the number of NFL and college football teams to average ticket prices. Akron has the 107th ranked football fans. There are six MAC football cities ranked in the top 100. DeKalb, Bowling Green, Mt. Pleasant, Toledo, Buffalo, Athens, & Oxford.
  16. I just viewed a small story on Fox 8 news at lunchtime on the bobbleheads?!? After reading the story, the two teleprompter readers went on to have a conversation about what it would have been like if LeBron played at Akron, instead of pursuing a professional career directly out of high school. The lady that reads the teleprompter thought he made a good choice.
  17. Four stars for people that love their stars. Hope this year's stats reflect his "stars". I do remember a post about a running back coming on signing day. I wonder who else is coming?
  18. Alex Alvardo of Hustlebelt writes: EMU Might Have What it Takes to Make a Run. "We're a very talented team, but our experience just hasn't been there," Murphy said. "Any time you bring in six new faces, it's tough. When you have so many new faces that you're depending on and you're continuing to learn each other, there's some slippage. And these guys have to continue to get better."
  19. All are all from the Akron area, and went to high school together. Romeo & Dru had good success at the U, LBJ went pro. I'm shocked that anybody that is an Akron basketball fan hasn't seen 'More Than a Game.' LeBron used to attend a lot of his friends games at the JAR while they were playing. After you paste in the link you have to add a hard return, then it should appear. I think they look good.
  20. The Cleveland Plain Dealer expects the Browns to take a quarterback at No. 2 overall. Beat writer Mary Kay Cabot expects the Browns to take a signal caller "unless something unforeseen happens in free agency" or a trade. As in, the team lands an acceptable starter. That's highly unlikely in this year's market. Cabot expects the Browns' choice to come down to North Dakota State's Carson Wentz or Cal's Jared Goff. All of this was said with the caveat that it remains very early in the process. Neither Wentz nor Goff are viewed as slam dunk top 10 picks at the moment. A "highly-respected personnel man" told the paper last month that the Browns should take Wentz.
  21. There were four MAC invites to the "national" combine. Beavers, Willie OT Western Michigan Frazier, Kavon FS Central Michigan Lewis, Roger WR Bowling Green Russell, Alonzo WR Toledo
