  1. From a Bill Livingston article about basketball: "Football is doing much better than basketball. That is the consensus of the conference basketball coaches. The MAC put a lot of money into football programs," said Mix. What nights are MAC basketball games on ESPN? MAC athletic directors, led by former member Marshall, pressed for a television deal and any bowl tie-ins (at the time they had none) in 1999 when Chryst became commissioner. The MAC sent seven teams to bowls last season. Chryst's vision, now realized, was of ESPN televising MAC conference games on fallow midweek autumn nights, helping the conference grow from a molehill in the national consciousness to at least a football foothill now.
  2. Yes. If you read the article, the one sentence I pasted implies exactly that. Good article btw.
  3. "This year, I don't think the MAC will even get an NIT bid," said Steve Mix (basketball analyst for SportsTime Ohio.)
  4. Germany's all-time leader in assists Joyce, 31, is also the University of Akron's all-time assists leader, compiling 503 from 2004-07 for the Zips. And, of course, as one of James' best friends and his point guard at St. V-St. M, Joyce won three Ohio high school championships. But for Joyce, owning the German assists record is uniquely special for him because of the quirks and difficulties of playing in Europe. Players rarely sign contracts longer than one or two seasons, and they often bounce from league to league, country to country, each year. Joyce has played in Germany for all but one of his nine pro seasons. His current team, s. Oliver, is in Würzburg, Germany, hometown to NBA star Dirk Nowitzki. For comparison's sake, Joyce's high school and college teammate, Romeo Travis, has played in Germany, Israel, the Philippines, France, Spain, Croatia, Ukraine, and Russia.
  5. Game will be televised on BCSN/Time Warner SportsChannel/ESPN3 Greg Franke (Play by play), Steve Mix (Color), Marisa Contipelli (Sideline)
  6. The Zips men's basketball team plays at Quicken Loans Arena in the quarterfinals on Thursday at Noon and The Corner Alley will open at 10 AM to accommodate Zips fans before they head to the game. With wins, both teams would play at Quicken Loans Arena, in the semifinals, on Friday and The Corner Alley would open at 10 AM. The ad below considers the women's game.
  7. Plain Dealer food and drink near the Q guide. Anyone know where Kent's official bar is this year?
  8. Can't you just hire an ex Kowalczyk player to sit next to you Thursday and do the same as Dials? Come on man, help us out. Belichick would.
  9. Great news.
  10. Game on ESPN3 Hustlebelt preview here. EMU won 91-85 at home against the Rockets late February and Raven Lee's 26 points off the bench helped them edge out a close road win in the season finale to ultimately decide which of these two would be the home team in the third matchup of the year. Toledo's a talented, versatile group with Nathan Boothe able to play down low and hit a 3-pointer and Jonathan Williams, who is third in the MAC in total scoring and averages 23 points per 40 minutes on the court. Many would peg Boothe as a First Team All-MAC center over EMU's James Thompson, despite him being one of two players in the conference to average a double-double per performance (Antonio Campbell for Ohio averages 17.5 ppg, 10.0 rpg).
  11. Five ZipNation members voted the Zips would make less than 13 threes and win by eight or more. Congrats to kreed5120, burrdie, RobotHam, zippy5 and AK-R4Life.
  12. Sent to me from a ZN member.
  13. If it is a foul to shoot three pointers, we are screwed. Otherwise, I think the players will impact the game more.
  14. I agree, nice job Marla. This gives some perspective. Besides Forsythe (done for the year), Kretzer has played virtually all season with turf toe. McAdams has a back problem, Jackson a bad shoulder. Big Dog has missed practices with an ankle sprain, but, like McAdams, has played in every game. Robotham sat out the first six games after tearing his ACL in 2015. “We’re still a work in progress,” KD said. “But there’s not many teams in America that can make 20 threes, go 19 and 20 in successive games. We’ve got some tools to work with.”
  15. Combined with the fact Akron does not play defense at a high level, Dambrot has opted to try and outscore everybody. "We have turned them loose,'' Dambrot said. "When you're open, let it rip". source
  16. Terrible news from Buffalo.
  17. At the end of this year, CBS Sports ranked the Zips 65 and Illinois 75. 78% of readers thought that ranking was too high for Illinois.
  18. I think everybody is in agreement, except for one confused individual, ASN is a winner. So like I wrote earlier, for our members that can't make the game, check out ASN's broadcast of the game tonight on ESPN3, they do a nice job. There is an advertisement with an eight hundred word article about tonight's game on ASN's front page. The Zips rank 350th in production from 2-point shots and 319th in points from the free throw line. “I’m happy when we shoot open 3s,” Dambrot said. “I’m not happy when we shoot contested 3s. If I had my way, I’d like to have a little better balance. I’d like for us to drive the ball a little better and get to the line more often. Do I want 50% of our attempts to be from the 3-point line? No. But philosophically, for our team and personnel, that’s the way we have to play.”...“We’re a little more offensive and a little less defensive,” Dambrot said.
  19. I think it's because it's being carried by American Sports Network. They have done a nice job covering mac games this year imo.
  20. The game is on American Sports Network / ESPN3.
  21. Tomorrow, 7:00 PM on CBSS James A. Rhodes Arena Bowling Green Falcons (14-14) @ Akron Zips (21-7)
  22. Akron is 6-1-1 ATS in its last 8 games, while Kent State is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games.
  23. I watched the Senior Bowl and thought the same. Jared Goff Measures His Little Hands at the NFL Combine A scout and I went to lunch in Indianapolis, and before the waiter could say hello, the scout was ranting about the state of quarterbacking in college and the NFL. "Not a single one who makes you go, 'Wow.' The best teams can hope for is that one of these guys becomes Trent Dilfer. "This is not a good class. No matter how much you guys in the media try to spin it." —Mike Freeman.
  24. I don't know, some of these look enticing. Clickable guide to northeast ohio food trucks. This one makes me think of an excellent opportunity for a month long promotion.
