  1. It may be because our tradition in the sport isn't as deeply rooted as some other countries. The U.S didn't really start caring about soccer at all until the 70's.
  2. Most of this is directed towards Lee Adams, but also toward the rest of you who enjoy arguing over moot points. So your saying if we win one of the other three close games this season(BG,UB,UC) then he should keep the job, even if he loses to both OU and Temple? That would make us 6-6 and still meet your criteria for holding onto Brookhart. Let's face the true reality here. J.D needs to win big games and he hasn't. I understand that. I'm not even really defending Brookhart. I'm just trying to keep an objective outlook. You either want a coach gone, or you want him to stay. If you don't want J.D to stay, then just say so and be over with it.All that you are doing is putting yourself in a win-win situation. If UA wins out, hey, shot at a bowl game and your team in the mix! And if J.D loses both of the last games, you can play the "I told you so" game. So what happens if he does go 6-6? Do you just keep him around and bash him every time we lose a close game next season? A lot of you seem to be against a lot of my thoughts, and I don't know why. I'm just trying to think about this teams future logically. If we dump J.D, what happens next year at the new stadium? A MAC championship in '05 raised the bar, and the past three seasons haven't even come close to meeting the expectations. But where do you guys propose we go for a new coach? I'm serious? Who else is there for this program that you think could justify rebuilding with the opening of a new stadium.By the way, I love it guys, this is funny. Arguing over pointless things gives me a reason to avoid my calculus homework.
  3. I agree completely. I don't think you can always blame the fans though for their attitudes. With the exception of 2005, in recent years, these fans haven't had much to cheer about. Theres no doubt that the losing mentality of a teams fans is a direct product of that teams lack of success. J.D needs to start winning those close games, and to his credit, he has won some. He just hasn't won enough to bring us to the next level. That's not going to work with UA fans much longer. We want to see a winning product, especially with the completion of the INFO coming up.
  4. Thats idiotic. Your basing the job security of our coach on ONE game? Please. If I understand correctly, hes saying that if we win one more game this sesason than Brookhart should stay. And if we lose both of the last two, then Brookhart should be fired. That means 6-6 he stays, 5-7 and he goes. That, my friend, is a difference of one game. Here, perhaps this will help:(6-6) or (5-7)Taking the bolded 6, and subtracting the bolded 5, equates to 1. As follows:6-5=1Therefore, we have a difference of(brace yourself) one game.So then if we are going to base this season on one game, which one should it be? Because we could of won three other games this season, but didn't. Shudda, wudda, cudda, right? I'm not going to waste any more time on this, because how amazed would you be if Rhodes just walked up to Brookhart and said: "J.D, look, I'm real sorry, but as you know, its been a real rough season, competing for the East title and all. So were going to have to see you win one of the next two games or else your gone. I can't risk bringing the same coach we've had for five years into a brand new stadium. It would work out better starting over from scratch and rebuilding with the new stadium, as far as ticket sales go.Won't happen. Quit whining. Go watch the Browns or something. Wait a second, didn't you repeat exactly what I just said with a more pessimistic outlook?
  5. You do realize that over the two buy weeks they experimented with the four DL set and used it against Toledo right?I suppose my point dealt more with the fact that some fans on this board believe that sitting around and complaining will acomplish something. It won't. Brookhart will eventually make the needed changes when he see the need to. You have to remember, most of you aren't there at practice seeing things that Brookhart sees. And obviously he has tried, assuming your post is true. Akron has come a long way since....Gerry Faust went 1-10 in his final year of coaching. Most definitely a long way since that. Lee Owens compiled just 12 wins in his first four seasons as head coach. Definitely a long way since then.Lee Owens compiled a 49% winning record his last 5 years as coach. I would say its come at least a little way since then.We did win a MAC Championship. Since then, we've had two loosing seasons. I generally feel that these Zips teams are generally better than years past, but the overall W-L record doesn't show us to be a MAC powerhouse. Hence, my statement that we have come at least a little way the past few years, but not necessarily a long way.If the program has come a long way, then next year the team should be expected to win those big games as you've said. If we are just a few mistakes or a couple of dropped balls away from a MAC championship game, then that should be remedied by next season. At the same time, if we have come a long way we will easily beat our last two opponents this year who both have losing records. If not, I would say that Akron football has not come a long way recently. Wait 'till next year is something Akron fans have had to say for a long time. If that is what we end up saying this year, how can we say Akron has come a long way?Bottom line: Akron has the talent, and the coaching, now we just need to go out there and put some W's on the board. That's all it comes down to. This season was as close as it gets. There's really only two games this year that we flat out LOST. We won close games we should of won, and lost some close games that the media said we would lose. We need to start winning those to take the next step in the right direction. haven't beaten a team with a winning record..1 win at home...what am i missing?..that said if brookhart goes 6-6 he gets another year and a locker at the INFO...if not 3 losing seasons in a row after 2 + one win seasons..!Thats idiotic. Your basing the job security of our coach on ONE game? Please.
  6. WHAT! I dont follow soccer often, but ANYONE had to see that is a load of crap! I hope UA goes and kicks OSU's(potentially) ass in the second round.
  7. Thank you SeeTeeZip. Oh my god thank you. The pessimism from some of these fans is just sickening.
  8. :unsure:no... its not the person Dr. Z...the coaches name could be dennison or larson or smith or methusula for all i care...its the result on the field...i would love nothing more than for these guys to get to the new stadium next year...and maybe the decision has already been made...but this is another watershed for this program...what happens these last two games, moving to the new place and the season next year...is the body of work at a high enough level to reward this staff with the new stadium and more longevity...has the last five years been what we want the next five to be like?...thats all...nothing personal...got it?Maybe its the fact that you have been a zips fan for for a lot longer than myself, or maybe its just your personality, but you are by far the most pessimistic poster on this forum...and thats saying a lot.

  10. Just wanted to point out one thing about your post. When the RB was originally built, it was ideal for the university's commuter campus. So back in the 60's(and until more recently) or whenever they bought it, a majority of the students were commuters from neighborhoods like Green and Coventry. The placement of this stadium will increase student attendance because it is a well known fact that a majority of the kids who now go to the RB are NOT commuters. And adding the on campus will only further increase the on campus student population. Remember that UA is now referring to itself as the public research university for NORTHERN ohio. Back in the 70's, 80's, and 90's, it was a school designed for commuters. Not much longer.
  11. I think when we talk about growth here, we are referring to the long term. UA wasn't even D1A in 1990, right? A matter of three years is representative of nothing. It's merely cyclical. Three years from now, Ball State could easily be in the same situation we are. Shoot, they could have a losing record! It's the MAC. Winning one bowl game garuntees NOTHING three years from now. Brookhart took us there once, and I have confidence he can do it again.p.s. A little something I picked up from being a Browns fan all of my life--a team can really be defined by it's fans. Having a losing mentality really wont lead to any change. You can bitch and moan all you want, but Brookhart aint goin nowhere soon, and niether is the 3-3-5. GET OVER IT.

  13. Couldn't agree more. I think this program has come a long way. The next step that this program needs to take is to actually WIN those big games. That's when we know that Akron Football has come full circle.I could see that happening as soon as next season. It actually should happen next year. The INFO will help contribute to this future success.Yes, but it SHOULD have happened this year. This was the year to make that move. We were the team nobody thought would win. A successful season before moving to a new stadium would be HUGE for confidence and attendance. Those 3 games were within reach and we let them go. Yes, next year everything will be different. It's an entirely new ballgame for us moving to that new stadium. And yes, that does mean we will now have everything we need to compete on the big stage. However a new stadium shouldnt be the catalyst for success. How do you think Akron got to D1-A in the first place? We won games and made a name for ourselves. What is done is done and we cannot change it. Those 3 games should have been wins for us, but we didn't execute when we needed to. Thats water under the bridge now. We need to focus on the last 2 games, hope for a bowl, and then look forward to our bright future in the new stadium. Hopefully we can open the new facility with a win...I know this may conflict with some things tha I've said earlier, but I really think we need to stop this mentality that the stadium will solely boost us to victories. Will the stadium help this program? Of course! Beter recruits, more fans, more media coverage, etc. But it won't cause the players to make plays, and it certainly won't give us an automatic win against UC.I think you're right, let's just do what we can this season. We can worry about next season when the time comes. Although its always nice to day dream about the INFO...
  14. About two years ago actually, but who's counting.Nice signature pic, BTW!Haha. Way to steal his thunder.

  16. CK, that story by far made my day. I'm sitting here with my friends just dying laughing. You are the coolest dad ever. That story alone makes me anxious to be a father.
  17. I kind of have to agree there. Good teams win big games. We haven't reall shown we can do that this season.
  18. It didn't matter what plays they called. The OC himself could've jumped out there and ran for a first down. Seriously though, that stretch play killed us all game long. we couldn't stop it. I'm sure had Buffalo been facing a defense that actually forced them to diversify their play calling then they would of.
  19. I hope what you say is true. IF it is, and that scenario plays out, the MAC would have SIX bowl games. I find it hard to believe that it's even possible. If it is possible, and it does indeed happen(probably more of a long shot than 80%) then the MAC really has proven it deserves more bowl bids.
  20. Hahaha poor true blue. I don't know what you were expecting coming on UA's forums anyways.
  21. While we are talking about keeping Caleb at UA, lets remember he has undoubtedly the best college soccer fans in the country. In the end, money always talks, but I'm sure a strong student atmosphere is ALWAYS a plus for any college coach.
  22. And Gates shouldn't count - when they didn't even know they had one of the best players in the game right under their nose, that should count as -1 so they only get 5. Hahaha...only Can't State... Agreed. The zips and UB are two extremely inconsistent teams. This game is a complete toss up. All bets are off.
  23. oh god, let's not get started on the bus situation. Last week they somehow thought that it would be appropriate to use 4 buses to take students to the game and only 2 to bring students home. Many were left for almost an hour after the game. However the bus issue should not be a problem this game. Apparently it has been addressed. That was horrible. It was like a stampede of bulls trying to squeeze into a small charter bus door.I hope it was adressed, ha.
  24. Listen, I'm all for expanding our program's horizons and everything. But Cornellius Carradine? He's a stinking four star DL whos already gotten offers from Cincinatti, Wisky, and Illinois.http://akron.scout.com/a.z?s=333&p=8&a...amp;nid=3608645His Prof^^^Are Brookhart and company being a bit too agressive in their recruiting?
  25. Im from Lake county ohio, but living on campus it seems that a majority of the kids from out of state come from the greater Pittsburgh area. Not only are we just beginning to finally shake off that commuter campus reputation, but it seems the oos percentage is going up as well. I think there was an article in the Buchtelite a couple months ago that talked about it somewhat. As far as alumni from other states, I'm sure that number is very high. There are a lot of fields that aren't as common here in Ohio.
