I believe those earlier remarks were made in jest. However, is there anything new to report on what UA plans to do with the Rubber Bowl?Oh, thought they were really bringing in the light poles from the RB. You know, to bring back some nostalgia.

And wooden. You can't forget the infamous wooden bleachers.
-
Also, BG lost to Miami 50-45.

Anyone know the score? I had a f'n lab tonight and had to miss the game ....is there any online feeds?
-
I'm sure that Dambrot has been focusing on that all week. I'm not worried about it.

I'll finish that for you...Can't state still sucks.By the way, is Can't supposed to sell out? I wanted to buy a ticket for my friends sib(it's sibs weekend). The only issue is that I'd have to buy it the day of...so will that be possible?

I'd really love to see the new MAC commish step up and try to get the MAC involved in this. The MWC alone may not be enough. More mid major conferences need to come together.

I totally agree that we could beat PSU. But it's going to take a lot more than just preperation. I have a class with some football player, and he was joking the other day about how Akron doesn't have "a chance" at beating Penn state. I dont know who the kid is, how important he is to the team(probably not very), but his attitude is exactly the issue that this program has to overcome. We could build a stadium worth twice as much as the info, but if the players don't believe, it's over before it starts.

I read this article and it reminded me of this topic. Sad, I know. Anyway, here's the link:http://blog.wired.com/cars/2009/02/hot-whe...=1&mbid=yhpI read in the last(and first ever) engineering newsletter that all that construction on the Auburn Science and Engineering Building was partially being designated as labs and work areas for our engineering design teams. With that said, why not put it to good use and compete with MIT on something like the solar car in the link above! God knows we beat them in every other competition. They have to go out of their way to avoid us . -
Does it involve a school from a rectangular state? Colorado needs to play a game at a MAC school, and we can always drop USD. It makes perfect sense, which means that the MAC office will screw it all up by forcing one of the other MAC schools to drop a game, creating a never-ending chain of teams being dropped by MAC schools until we end up with the least desirable home game in the country.Whoever gets Colorado gets a home game on ESPN. The ESPN, not one of the "ESPN network" channels. It would likely be played on a Friday, but the only time I like weekday games is when we're on a major channel. We need this stadium to be showcased to the nation.Miami was scheduled to play them on a Saturday. The first game at a new college stadium belongs on a Saturday, not a Friday night.I normally would agree with you, but I think Friday games are fine, and if it means it's on ESPN...c'mon. Now that's an opportunity for new traditions.

Hey Dr. Z~Will this help you sleep better at night? http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/zips/2009/02/a...fense/#comments

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it's probably due to the fact that no one even knew we had a hockey team to begin with.
-
haha. I always thought Baron Davis would look good in a zips uniform.

Zeke Marshall where aaaarrrreeee yoooouuu.I know he's not the only answer to our prayers, but for a majority of that game we were being heavily out rebounded.I'm finished worrying about the MAC refs. I've realized that I have to consider them as much a part of the game as I do the players. God knows they have just as much, if not more, effect on the outcome than our team does.

He's 6'6 225 lbs and was a four star prospect in high school. He got offers from six BCS schools, Miami, and CMU. I'm not saying we should take him, but is he really only worthy of FCS(or was that sarcasm)?

http://www.theonion.com/content/news_brief...onion_rss_dailyFunny article on the national satire website The Onion.

Exactly. I know it's fun to think about conference realignments, merges, etc. But Akron should worry about Akron and not the conference we're in. We can only blame the conference so much. We have the resources we need to dominate the MAC, so now we just need a coach and players who will use it(and I'm not saying we don't already). Besides, if we really need a new conference to truly take this program somewhere, just look at Marshall(I know its been said here before). Dominate the conference for a few years, and the C-USA will be a-calling for that brand new stadium. And if they don't want us, who cares? I just want to see some bowl wins!

That's a good point but anymore everything is based on prestige. In the long run, it hurt's graduates when they have to go through the same coursework/projects that any other kid at another more prestige school does, and then they are still looked at as inferior to the student from the other school.Sure, Akron grads are known in the region, but how about in Cali? Or even other parts of the Midwest? Although these ranking systems are bogus, we have to cater to them somewhat. If we don't, UA will never be respected as much as it should be by people who matter(employers, grad schools, etc.).Answer this:Since the college ranking systems started, how many schools managed to make among the top ten in research revenue in the country and still failed to make the top one hundred schools? I thinks it's time UA becomes more selective. -
Well said.Indeed. Racer, have you ever though about becoming a stenographer?

I hope you're right. Akron's total enrollment is approaching 26,000 rapidly. Besides, if it's just based on arbitrary numbers, and not dictated by the state, why the hell doesn't Akron just get rid of OE now? We can still accept the enough students(apparently enough kids apply, UA overbooked housing this year). So then why not accept the BEST students? I don't expect anyone to know the answers to these questions(but if you do, great!), I'm just ranting. -
Better yet, we can just schedule whoever won the national championship the year before. If Indiana is willing to come to the info, why not Florida?Edit: Seriously though, Akron and Buffalo could form an interesting rivalry. If both programs stay on the rise like they have been the past couple years, I could see both of us moving into a C-USA type conference together and furthering the rivalry.

Tiers are made up by those ranking magazines. We can't move up unless the state allows us to change our enrollment policy. Toledo has the same problem. We could have all the top programs in the country in every field of study, and we would still be tier 3 because of the open enrollment. And I still will never understand how being open enrollment "helps" our university. Perhaps in 1913, when we were a failing college, but in this day and age it's completely useless. Both Toledo and Akron have stronger programs in engineering and science than most schools in the country, but, like uakronkid said, the open enrollment overshadows everything.I think getting rid of the open enrollment policies and making this school a little more selective would produce many more proud alumni, and consequently, more money to the school. But who am I? -
Is this author full of crap or is the rest of the conference less experienced than Akron is with 7 freshmen? I swear Elton Alexander must be doing this on purpose. That's the fiftieth time the guy has referred to our diaper dandies as "veterans". There's no way that a guy who's job it is to cover the zips could have such a blatant misconception!
-
But because that bill is only for one semester, wouldn't you pay most of those fees twice? I'm not sure If I'm pointing out the obvious or not.

Not to be a negative nancy, but let's just pray our bball team dosen't mimic the football team's patheic performance and fold at the end of the season. Bad comparison, I know. I think we all realize that this team has a LOT more going for it then the football team ever had.
