Can't State on ESPN.com's Top Stories
ksu sucks replied to Bleacher Bum's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I know you were just kidding but let's be honest here. Pot is widely used throughout UA's campus. As are other drugs. It's college. I've never been to Can't's campus so I wouldn't know the atmosphere there, but I'm willing to bet they use as much or less pot then students at UA. I know it's been a running joke(Can't is a hippie school etc) but I can't lie, I've never seen someone do as much acid as this kid a few doors down from me. Does that make Akron a bunch of hippies too?Just putting a long running joke into perspective. -
Main/Exchange Apts/shops project

No, I don't think you guys are understanding the pricing when you say the prices aren't too bad. The 599.00 a month for the 4 bedroom apartment is PER PERSON, because these types of places give out individual leases per bedroom. That's why the smaller the apartment is in terms of bedroom and how many roommates you'll have, the higher the price goes. 650 for 3 bedroom, 699 for two bedroom, etc. If you guys think that's reasonable, you must be richer college students than I was!Yeah, I realized that about a few hours after I posted that. Because of the twelve month lease, it ends up being more expensive than living on campus! I'd be surprised to see this place get many leases. -
sounds a bit Can't statish to meDue to the high population of hippies in Colorado you might have something.Ugh... I know it's a joke but seriously... (www.enviroakron.org) UA students also care about socio-environmental relationships. As well we should, living in the post industrial midwest, and caring about the effects that industry and all of its after effects have on us and many of our families as citizens of Akron and Northeast Ohio. I honestly hope that the Info adopts a policy that respects an environmentally responsible business model, much as Colorado has done. It would benefit us all without it making any person a "hippie" or a Can't state alumnus (ugh) as well as being an economically sound way of approaching business..Go Zips! And slaughter the sweaters 1/10/09!You're completely right. Of course I was joking. The protection of the environment is without a doubt the most important issue to me personally. And it would be naive to think that being supportive of preserving the environment makes you a hippie. At almost all college campuses there is a focus on it, not just Can't. And actually this Environmental Akron group sounds right up my alley. Thanks for posting that link. Haha. Although I don't think we have to worry about something like that, I completely agree. There are a lot of insane liberals on the west coast who can (and would) legitimize any goofy stunt in the name of the environment.

I'll second that. I really need info on good student housing around campus. Because I'm only going to be living with one other person, these apartments are a little too expensive for me. -

Woah..I just checked out the website...I am also looking for rooms off campus next year. These prices aren't too bad compared to other places. This is actually cheaper than what I heard people were paying at Fir Hill! This definetly deserves a closer look! Thanks everyone for the info! -

Those apts are student residence, correct? -
Thanks for bringing this up. I was driving past that the other day and asked myself the same question. Isn't there some well-to-do alumni out there who could make the purchase? I'm getting sick of explaining to my suburbanite friends that "ZLB Plasmas" isn't an electronics store.

Now I have no idea how good Jordan Miller is, but I beleve he was a 3-star recruit according to one of the scouting services. Has he been so unimpressive in his short stay at UA that it's understood that he'd be behind Rodgers and Nicely (if he commits)? I'm just asking since he (Miller) has been somewhat of a mystery since he signed.Ah, ya got me. I completely forgot to mention him. A three way competition is even better than two. By no means was I attempting to exclude anyone.

According to Scout, Nicely visited Toledo last Friday. Looks like not-so-much a package deal (at least not a sure thing), who knows where these two kids will land...Nicely plans to visit UA on January 16th. I've also heard he'll be paying OU a visit "first weekend in January." He's already seen Toledo and is still undecided so obviously he didn't see anything monumental there. I'd say if it comes down to facilities, UA has got him, but you never know. After '09 its down to him and Rodgers for the starting position. It would be really interesting to see who earns it. I'd say nicely could easily be a four year starter here at Akron.http://www.troopsports.com/december_2008_7.html

Not to mention all the people that the bars will get coming in. If you think its busy during an Aero's game, wait until the Zips home opener. This city has needed something like this for a while.

?He agreed with his post so much he wanted to see it twice.

I think the bottom line here is that although academia is indeed loosely connected to reality in many aspects, the sale of these tickets is to the university's benefit and one would think they would make ticket sales more accessible regardless of the holidays. You're trying to tell me that with the economy the way it is now the university can't find somebody willing to answer a phone or manage a website??

Ethics charges against University of Akron trustee
ksu sucks replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
"They need to buy that house," said Warner Mendenhall, an Akron attorney who represented at least a dozen property owners in negotiations for stadium land. "As a city we need this to be a successful project. . . . Despite this glitch, I would urge the university to go forward."I guess it was that quote that made me feel like the PD was slightly hinting at some type of postponement. Nothing remotely substantial. And looking back now I feel like I was reading to closely. Besides, all of us and the PD know damn well that this isn't the case, but I just felt that they may be trying to somewhat fool the uninformed average Clevelander into believing the article was more important than it actually was. As you said, its all about money, and dirt sells. -
Wow...very well said. Hopefully the new stadium will attract more young zips like myself to attend the University and become life long zips fans like yourself. I have the utmost respect for all of the AK-Oldies.

Well that's not a very conference friendly thing to say, now is it?[/sarcasm]

High Cost of Higher Education
ksu sucks replied to ZipAlumn's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Everyone else's posts are dead on. This is just a case of the University adapting to the financial threats of the state. But it isn't like these charges are unique to Akron. A lot of the locals are angry with these charges, but what they dont realize is that schools like OSU, Cinncinnatti, and just about every other respectable school enact similar charges. These ignorant people just aren't used to the new direction the university is taking. They are too used to hilltop high and the little money that was necessary to run it. Now that the school is taking on such improvements that there were need to be funds coming in to pay for it, so if a tuition freeze is put into place, then the college needs ways to bring in money. There is a lot of people in this city who are embracing the idea of a stronger university in Akron. At the same time, there are many people who simply despise anything that asks for money. -
Good luck to him...he will probably need it.

I think if the Buckeyes make him an offer he will dump us like a hot potato. Here we go again...Hopefully it was a joke....Yeah, lets hope. It is rather hard to tell on the internet like this though. Sometimes I can't tell if someone is joking or just stupid.

They always have tons at the bookstore in the student union.

That's because Keith is a native Akronite, not a Youngstowner or other varietal outsider, Cap'n Like KD, I grew up with everyone around me calling our university Akron U. In fact, I can't remember ever hearing anyone call it by that long, drawn out name in an actual conversation.However...in official publication, like that Cali paper, someone should tell the author it's THE University of Akron. In fact, let's remind all the folks down Bucknut way about that also. What I really hate is when I tell someone I'm from Ohio, and they respond, "Oh, you're a Buckeye". Aaaaaaahhh! Mele kalikimaka from ka pae 'aina 'o Hawai'i nei to all the Akron U fans in the audience. You do realize this is the Buckeye State...Right?We get it. You like Ohio State and Akron. Some people disagree with you. Let's get over it now.
