its easy to fill an arena when thats about the only significant large-scale entertainment venue for 50 miles. Supply and demand...

Im sure students would love living next door to a highly active CSX railroad route.

This made me chuckle... and then made me all sad like... http://deadspin.com/5959834/college-shamed...d-sad-tennessee

meh. complain about student attendance all you want. the rowdie's leadership is in shambles. hasn't been up to par for a few years now, not like it was in its younger years. would love to see less complaining about the attendance numbers (cant make people come - ask the university how that one's played out) and more effort into hyping up the team to students. just my $0.02.

Seeing that thefirstrow.eu has a stream available for the game, though its not up yet. hopefully that one works out!

stuck at work till late. Anyone aware of an online stream that will be available?

i respectfully disagree, g-mann. If you look into the statistics of the season thus far, youll find that that coaches challenges are setting record high overturn percentages this season at, i believe, 75%, give or take some. That alone is indication that these referees are grossly incapable of the task at hand. Now, I will concede that it may not even be the ref's faults. It may just be that they were thrown into a situation where the chances of them doing well were nearly impossible. As many have pointed out, the replacements come from at the very least High School, D3, D2, and possibly the bottom of the D1 pool in collegiate football. The speed, intensity, and precision of the NFL game is leaps and bounds beyond anything theyve seen. So yes, it'd be hard for anyone to do what theyre doing. However, my point circles mostly around the fact that the NFL, who used to proclaim to all its teams/owners to "Protect the Shield", is letting this shoddy, poor excuse for refereeing pass as acceptable and is refusing to budge on the differences between them and the officials union. They might claim their ratings are super high or that interest in the brand is at an all-time high, but at the cost of the game's and the league's integrity.

Did anyone else watch this game? This weekend of NFL football has shown all the signs I need to see that these replacement officials need to go. NOW. End of the game, hail mary pass gets ruled a touchdown giving seattle the win after a green bay player comes away with the ball. Not only that, but they COMPLETELY missed a blatant pass interference call on the seahawks, and have completely botched every part of the rules regarding the end of the game. Theyre ruining the game and I completely agree more players are going to get seriously hurt. Almost makes me not want to watch the NFL anymore. Awful.

Not sure who else gets ZipMail (I know students who are on this board do), but I just recieved a VERY confusing and somewhat troubling email from the University. It reads: Comments/discussion below... should be an interesting news story once it gets unveiled.

InfoCision Stadium on the Today Show
tbozeglav replied to Zipgrad1990's topic in Akron Zips Football
Money is money. To call our stadium funded by dirty money is absurd and short sighted. Theyre a legitimate business who, while not operating under what many consider the best of business practices, do their business legitimately. It's not like the money we received came from illegal activities of any kind... I get it though - we all wanted the stadium's naming rights to be bought by First Energy, Goodyear, Bridgestone/Firestone... I interviewed at Infocision this past spring for a senior internship. Everything about it sounded great and the interview went well, up until they handed me a paper that said (which they reiterated) that they only pay interns $10/hr. I about laughed in their faces... Their interview process was also... interesting. Only cool part of the interview was seeing that awesome scale model of the stadium in their lobby. -
Someone find that video feed for tonight

no problems with ESPN3 here! -
and they sold out of damn near everything by the 3rd quarter. Which was either excellent or poor planning for demand.

Ampai just tweeted that he (porter) was leaving after the season. Sad, but about the best we can ask for in this situation.
-
absolutely nothing about this makes sense. Why now? Why Portland? Salary increase cant be THAT much higher. Making this move now does not jive one bit with the philosophy Porter has preached for years.

Steelers version is much better

I think allowing ill-prepared students into the university setting hurts more than it helps. Offering them remedial classes to prepare them for the collegiate workload via community colleges around the area will serve both the community and university better by giving every student a better chance at success. Take two identical students: both are ill-prepared but wish to go to college. One jumps right into the collegiate workload, the other goes through remedial classes at a community college to gear themselves up for college. Which do you think has the better chance at succeeding and completing their degree? I'll take the second student every day.

i think its a bit much. Im a non-smoker and will be for life. I have no problems with smokers either. what I *DO* have a problem with are the smokers who choose to light up immediately outside the doors I'm trying to use to enter/exit a building. Isn't it stated in the state-wide smoking ban that you have to be like 50' away from public entrances/exits? If they could be the least bit courteous to those of us who don't care for the smoke, then I think we'd all be better off. Instead stuff like a campus-wide smoking ban get talked about because they can't do the smallest things. as an aside, Im quite literally LOL'ing at their attempt to blame the universities for exposing them to smoking. What a joke.

Really cool overview of the new NCAA title. Also some pretty comical footage of the Zips vs Rockets... except all the players are the mascots, respectively lol

It would appear things are moving along, but with the addition of more dorms. I for one am pretty excited theyre adding more dorms with storefronts. This is the type of plan they need to be using for all of south campus. http://www.ohio.com/news/new-student-housi...street-1.313915

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8006771/...als-talks-stall They are looking for Non-BCS conference officials (due to BCS officials being run by NFL Officials), so if you've ever complained about NFL officiating, just imagine MAC refs on the field for an NFL game.

Interview with Dr. Proenza
tbozeglav replied to ZachTheZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
what is the fascination with leaving the MAC? I know the conference isnt great and we could certainly be in a better conference that gives more sports a chance to succeed, but at what point did leaving one of the few remaining stable conferences at a time where schools are playing musical chairs with conferences become a rational expectation? I would much prefer to be somewhere consistent and stable and be great there than jump ship for somewhere with too many question marks and pull a Marshall -
These 3 things stood out most to me in the decision. Seems like a bit of a hassle just to get the beer, especially if they put this "Stand" in a really inconvenient place... I also wonder what they mean by "stands around the concourse"...
