I think the comparison between a proven bounty program and a coach who got caught having players selling rings for tattoos is nearly night and day. One is a program designed with malice, the other is an instance of turning a blind eye to students doing some things not allowed by the NCAA off the field. If this guy thinks JT deserves worse, he's borderline insane. The saints got what they deserved because the program was meant to reward players for overly violent plays on other teams... The Tattoo-gate was just another school letting their players get some money on the side... Come on people...

I like this idea, a lot actually. I can't tell you how many student's I've seen start and are in over their heads and haven't a clue what they're doing. At least this way UA is helping those students get an education instead of just taking the tuition money..

its embarassing to be off by a few weeks... but to have the dates confused with the PARAlympic games? Come on!

Stadium Expansion for 2012
tbozeglav replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
The only places they can realistically "expand" at this point is on the main stands. Both areas behind the goals are about at their maximum bleacher capacity. Unless the hangup is finishing Coleman Commons and building additional reserve bleachers behind the North side of the pitch, I doubt much more expansion will happen. It'd be great to see, but I think in regards to the soccer stadium, there are better improvements that can be made -
Im at the point in this topic where until the University, City, or Both announce some kind of formal details regarding the project, I can't get any more interested in it. We've hashed out everything to such an extent that, really, theres hardly anything left to talk about. I will support whatever is done so long as it provides a better game-day experience for fans and ESPECIALLY students. We can all agree to that. Realistically speaking, anything will be better than the Jar. If there's a will, theres a way, and I know that if the University wants this bad enough, it'll happen. Until then... focus on supporting the team

is this directed at the debacle of a game with UNC-Ashville and Syracuse? Felt like I was watching a MAC game at the end with all the blatantly one-sided fouls.

its a party! PMs from Jake for everybody!

count me as one of the people who were not impressed with how the play unfolded. How two of our biggest guys can't get the ball when NW doesn't have anyone on them thats even close to their height is beyond me. Get the ball to them, let them make the play, and maybe we get lucky and draw a foul. Going for the 3 is great, but I just feel we would have been better served getting it to our bigs

Money, Donations and Basketball
tbozeglav replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Wasn't it minnesota who did some major renovations or rebuilding of their arena? Thought it was them... If not... cant remember who it was, but i thought the colors were that of Minnesota's -
Im just going to leave this here... lumberjack, if Chauncy 1) reads posts here, 2) takes them more seriously than his own coaches and personal feelings, and 3) is upset some random person on the internet gave him a C- based on his 2012 season.... then he's got MAJOR issues that need addressing outside of his game on the court. Seriously. Additionally, if I were Chauncy and I found someone who claimed to be a "representative" of him on this fan board saying the things you are, I'd be more upset with you than the admitedly very positive reveiw. Albeit the grade is low, its only a evaluation of his factual performance in 2012, not his career in terms of performance, potential, and history overall. We appreciate the fact you come here to interact with us and provide input, but belittling us over our views on someone whom you claim to be "personal" to you is immature in itself. We all make mistakes and hopefully you can learn from this. And as always, go zips!

while I will concede they are civil, the fact that theyre a constant "installment", for lack of a better phrase, is what I find most annoying. If I cared about the subject as much as he apparently does, Id engage with him, but all of my responses have been iterations of the concept of "cool story". Its nice he cares, but where he got the idea I cared to hear what he thought is beyond me, and why he keeps messaging me is what annoys me most. Somewhat not surprised by the number of people whom he's also messaged.

Has anyone gotten messages from the infamous member? Every time I make any kind of post in the Arena thread(s) just discussing it as fans would, I get messages from him saying how dumb everyone else is and how he has these sources, whom he cannot name or cite, that say "UA will do this and that". Its almost clockwork that every time I post anything informational I get a message from him. I think he's finally gotten the clue Ive been sending that I don't care (I think he blocked me), but has anyone else been having him contact you? Based on the fact that he isn't posting in the threads, I presume he's been banned from posting and can only read... Sorry for the rant, but I did not care to be harassed by a member like that. It'd be different if a) it wasnt Jake, and it wasn't just BS every time a message was sent to me

I agree, gmann. This is why, to this day, I still believe any arena built primarily as the home of Zips basketball will be with the City directly involved so as to avert a similar Cleveland/CSU situation here in Akron. Given the relationship the University already has with the city, it's very easy to see this project happening with both involved. Its mutually beneficial and I certainly feel neither would want to step on each others' toes.
-
Im not terribly surprised by this. The wolstein center always seemed far too large for its tenants, especially considering that CSU doesn't draw THAT large of a crowd to its basketball games. Also bear in mind that the building was completed only a year before Gund Arena, a much larger and in my opinion more flixible building, broke ground 1/4 mile away. At the time that the Wolstein Center broke ground, nothing had been said about the Cavs leaving the Richfield Coliseum and building Gund Arena downtown. My guess is they were hoping to be the downtown arena major events were hosted at.... except they were "one up'ed" by the Cavs. Our situation is a bit different. We don't have any arena of comparable size or use anywhere near Akron. In fact, only Cleveland is the closest, and we can all mostly agree that its far enough away that it's not a major factor. Building a new arena has far too many benefits that I cannot foresee us having the same issues CSU is having

There's some disambiguity between Goaltending and basket interference. Thats become a topic of debate lately. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goaltending however, under the article specifically for basket interfernece http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basket_interference it only specifies that only the points possible from the shot are awarded, making no reference to the specifics regarding free throws. Additionally, See page 125 of this PDF: http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/BR11.pdf What that exactly means is beyond me... but if I am reading this right, I believe if properly called, it would have counted the FT and come with a T with 2 FTs for Akron... I would not be surprised if Bo & Co. didn't know the full extent of the rule and since it wasn't a clear violation let it go... but it is what it is... We need to take this and use for motivation in the NITs and next season
-
I have watched it. Yes, he barely makes contact and doesn't "move" the basket, but by rule its still interference. It comes down to the principle of the rule and the direct interpretation of said rule by the refs, aka Bo & Co. Im not bitter about this loss... it sucks that it had to come down to something as small as 2 fingers on the rim for a split second to determine whether we have the chance to win. We had plenty of other chances to beat OU and we didn't convert on them; OU had lady luck on their side today and unfortunately our players couldn't make up the difference. That and Cooper was just stupid from the field today. Can't do anything about that and you have to move on and hope for a deep run in the NITs
-
based on the picture posted on the previous page, there was a shot interference by Ohio. By rule, that means that 1) the free throw counts, and most importantly, 2) a technical called and would result in Akron going back to the line for 2 more shots. This isn't a "goaltending" issue, mind you (not directed at you specifically, brian); The issue is of interference with the rim, which was CLEARLY made with the picture posted.

Its the byproduct of becoming a consistently successful team. When the expectation becomes success, anything less than ultimate success is deemed a "Failure". The Zips failed at defending their MAC Championship title from last year, but they've succeeded in securing a postseason for themselves with the regular season championship. Our program's bar is set so high that its almost NCAA or bust. Look at the soccer program: They win the national championship and suddenly the bar is immediately raised to that level and anything short of it is deemed a failure. Count me as someone who's happy to see we're at this stage in our program!

my online stream seems fine?

my thoughts as well. this has been a great game, but some of the fouls and non-calls are a little sketchy. Kinda pissed when I heard we drew the Bo again. I have faith in this team and KD to finish it off.
