  1. yeah now I remember. For some reason I didn't think they ended up being ranked that high. Im a little more optimistic about this change now if it goes through.
  2. Thats assuming a MAC team could ever get ranked that high. I dont know if i recall a MAC team ever breaking the BCS Top 15... ever... but i could be wrong
  3. just had him send me another PM about my topic re: springfest. i couldnt reply because its apparently disabled on his account (why he can send them but not receive is beyond me). Im guessing he's banned from posting in the forums too? getting kind of annoying because i really dont care what he has to say
  4. Im sure most of you didn't or couldnt go... but for those of you who did, what were your thoughts? I didn't get to spend the entire time there thanks to work, but what time I did spend there was pretty good. Thought it was well-run and entertaining for the most part. Fireworks were great and though I was skeptical about 3OH!3 being the headliner (they were big like 2 years ago), they weren't anywhere near as bad as I was thinking. This all goes without saying that much improvement can be made, though. I still think the University could integrate some sporting event (softball or maybe even a spring exhibition soccer game) into the mix, along with getting a more relevant headliner. However, the last 3 years I think have shown a lot of growth and maybe this means with a new arena would help bring in better entertainment (bands/artists)?? BTW... It was AWESOME to see Jim Tressel walking around Springfest. Had he not been busy talking to his wife, I would have stopped to talk to him.
  5. debbie downer much?
  6. Follow the Roo is the official akron athletics twitter account. There's an account for the University, non-athletic, plus a few others for certain major areas of the university. Additionally, I think there's a twitter account for mens/womens basketball, mens/womens soccer, football, etc EACH. Its a confusing landscape out there.
  7. video was taken down.... damn. I laughed my a$$ off when I heard news that the riot police shut college fest down. Oh Can't State... always keeping the bar low
  8. definitely still babertucky. worked out there at the B&W plant last year and while its not bad, its not great. the commute was still chock full of white trash unfortunately.

  10. and thats their fault? their enrollment isn't automatic like the public schools are. they have to convince players (and their parents) to come to their school by offering full or even partial scholarships to play for them. Sometimes theres no scholarship and its all financial aid and convincing them based on the education they'd get. If anything, they have the biggest disadvantage if you ask me and its only fair those schools get to compete against the public schools that their student body are probably friends with. I know as a kid going to a private school, it was always fun to get a chance to play my friends at the public schools.
  11. Maybe I am naive, or maybe Im biased since I went to a private high school... but exactly what is the point of separating them? Just because they are a private school, that somehow makes them worse or some how less deserving of playing with the big boys? If anything, private schools have an inherent disadvantage because they cost tuition money to attend and don't always get the biggest, strongest, most athletic players. At my high school, a D3 school, we got some pretty good players for all the sports, but the bigger-name public schools often had the physical advantage... So... I guess if someone could show me why these schools aren't deserving of being mixed in, that would help. I just feel its a bit unfair to segregate them from everyone else just because they're private. Lets not forget some very good athletic departments are at such schools. Iggy, St Ed's, St V, Xavier, Walsh... hell even my high school has a bunch of state titles in quite a few different sports...
  12. and this is news because.... lets be real here people... its 3 weeks before spring finals. Let the kids study, relax, and take their minds off basketball for a while. theyre STUDENT athletes, not ATHLETE students. I dont expect to see any of them in a gym or practice court until summer.
  13. you mean the concrete we thought was going to have brick on it to match the rest of the stadium?
  14. if I had the time or actually cared to, I could have come up with a design twice as good as the best one of that bunch...
  15. those were the best designs???
  16. i havent been able to make it to a game (REALLY wanted to), but it sounds like the baseball team is really starting to kick some ass right now. at the very least Im happy to hear the positive performances and especially the wins!
  17. the sequence of passes in the second clip was AMAZING... and the goal was even better! Well done Nagbe!
  18. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA i about died when he said "fear the dadgum tuba" I love this coach and he hasnt even officially coached his first game here.
  19. are we talking physically tall or in numbers? I too failed to see exactly what you meant by that bit.
  20. I know, its the age-old question of where the University will finally get a franchise of either place on or near campus. We all have wanted them, myself included, as do the countless residents on or around campus. However, this time I think it's got validity... Had a close friend tell me the other day that University Park Alliance bought the properties between Penn Station and Allyn Street (the former College Bookstore/Miracle Trophies, Revol Wireless store, etc) and are planning to demolish them and build a small building where a new Chipotle and 5 Guys Bugers and Fries would be housed. Nothing has been made official according to him, but the plans are in place and the chances are VERY high. I havent been able to validate that UPA did or didn't buy those properties, but the idea alone sounds promising!
  21. Thats an interesting proposition. Its hard to call him a bust by definition, though. He had a 160–68–25 record, 8 MAC championships, and went to the tourney 5 times. However, I see where you're coming from in the sense that he didnt think it could be done here. I'd call him more of a deserter than a bust. The guy was successful here... he just didn't have the fire porter does to take us to the next level.
  22. they'll only play us in football because we're a cheap W on their schedule of cupcakes to prop them up. I "got into it" with my uncle on facebook about this topic. It was all in good fun and no harm was ever made, but it showed all the glaring issues with the bandwagon OSU fan who falls back on them being "Ohio's School". He kept emphasizing the "THE", to which I would retort that its THE University of Akron, and that when I called OSU overrated (are they anything else), that we weren't talking about soccer. Then when I asked him where his beloved sweatervest was, all he could say was "good luck with tressel with the NCAA all up in his business HAHA". Sigh.... so naive. The sad part is that the TRUE fans, the ones who went to school there and those who are really in tune with how things really go are the tolerable ones. I can respect them. Its the blind sheep who piss me off.
  23. what OSU's AD really meant to say was "We don't want to put our program at any more of a risk of losing a game than we absolutely have to"
