random thought since you brought up rent... the place I lived in was split - we rented the bottom half, someone else had the top half. Each of my roommates paid $335/mo, meaning our unit alone was raking in $1000/mo. Granted gas, water, sewer, trash were covered, but thats barely $200/mo tops. That means the landlord was raking in, at minimum, $1500/mo for a place that if I bought right now and mortgaged out, wouldn't cost me even half that. Its laughable how much these people exploit the students for every penny they can. I moved to Stow... have more room, more amenities, better quality of living, better nieghborhood, and pay LESS than I did there. good riddance.

UCF was 5-7 last year, FIU was 8-5 and lost to Marshall 20-10 in the Beef O' Brady's St. Petersburg Bowl.

I went to their board last night. They were making comments about his partying and womanizing and saying how that was okay for a college student, but not for the head football coach. Although the points are well taken, there is no proof that Bowden ever did these things. If it is true, it was almost 20 years ago. Funny that this is the only thing that the Can't losers can come up with. they're just upset that the days are numbered until the wagon wheel is out of their possession! funny how Can't State fans can only leech onto decade old unsubstantiated rumors to prove that we still suck... sucks to suck!

I too chose 3-5... If T-Bow is anything he's cracked up to be it should be a clear sign that the coach was the reason we couldn't win. Looking at out OOC schedule, and guessing what our conference schedule will end up being, heres what I am thinking: Of our 4 OOC games, UCF is a winnable game, FIU is a question mark since we really don't know where we stand with our talent and the new coach but winnable if we play a really good game, Morgan State is a shoe-in win, and Tennessee is a shoe-in loss. That means at least 1-3 headed to conference play, but Im hoping for 2-2 and maybe 3-1 if we're a little lucky. Once in conference play... we're likely to have 3 games that are very winnable. assuming my predictions are right, we'll have buffalo and miami on the schedule again along with Cant, and of those 3 we should be able to win 2 of them (buffalo is NOT as good as the score looked this year - same goes for Miami). Putting it all together... We should have 3 wins next year at minimum, with 5 being possible if T-Bow can make our talent do some great things for once and 6 if we're REALLY lucky. I will go with a prediction of 4-8 for 2012. Not winning, but leaps and bounds ahead of what iCoach was capable of.

There's only so much they can do. Theres no way for them to be everywhere at all times. That area south of campus has, for a long time, been a "breeding ground", of sorts, for crime due to the simple, unavoidable fact that you have students living in rented houses/units that are poorly built and secured and who are guaranteed to have valuable electronics (sellable on the black market). The area is also within a city, meaning its easier for them to get away from the cops. I would say that while many of the robberies are carried out by individuals who live in the same areas as the students, I would also venture to guess that the theives would travel to the area knowing what people in the area typically have in their houses. Last year when I lived in the area, my roommate kept a loaded gun in his room and I kept a baseball bat in mine. I've since moved out of Akron (wise choice), but he moved somewhere else in the area. Not too long ago, he found that all his windows had been cracked open (obvious sign that someone had been casing his place) and has since installed a full motion-sensing security system that will automatically call police for him in addition to the gun he keeps around just in case. Its just the risk you have to take sometimes for the convenience and savings of living in the area. I will say UAPD overall has been doing a great job at mitigating the issue the best they can. You mentioned the other nuances and unfortunately thats just a part of the job. I have never heard of them busting civil parties unless they had good reason to, and typically that involves reports of underage drinking, overly loud music, or reports of anything else illegal. Its their duty to enforce the laws and they will if they deem it necessary. Besides... the parties are often when potential robberies are cased, so keeping the big, public parties controlled is a good way to prevent a potential crime.

George Thomas of ABJ on 92.3 interview
tbozeglav replied to scottditzen's topic in Akron Zips Football
I could agree there. While it certainly doesn't help a show that is supposed to cover all sports, at least he makes it well known he doesn't know much about the game nor does he care to know much about it. Instead of faking the knowledge, he puts it out there that he doesn't know and just takes an objective stab at it which to me is a lot more respectable. that characteristic is where I dont like Geroge... He seems to be a guy who doesn't know what he's talking about, but will do everything in his power to make it look like he does, using comedic quips to save face. In this case, its so blatantly obvious he doesn't know (or doesn't care to know) some of the fundamental facts about the league and the team he's assigned to cover that its appalling. This isn't ignorance, this is just being stupid. Put someone else in -

theres a difference between wallowing in ignorance and just being stupid. In this case, i'm going with the latter of the two. TK may be ignorant, but he knows his sports and doesn't like to back down from his opinions. In fact, the same could be said about Steven A. Smith, Skip Bayless, etc. Theyre very intelligent and knowledgeable about the topics.... -

Bowden's Quick Turnarounds Should Give Us Hope
tbozeglav replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
if he is able to double iCoach's win total (overall) in his first season, which i think could be entirely possible, Ill be happy. not expected MAC championship, but at least significant signs of progress -
Who cares? The guy has won at every level. The proof is in the pudding. Nothing to be leery about. I believe this to be the characteristic of this guy that excites me the most. I don't care his name is nationally recognized. I dont care he coached at Auburn and holds the record for the highest winning %age at Auburn for any coach with at least 5 years of tenure. I don't care he took a break from coaching before heading to North Alabama. This guy is a PROVEN winner at every level with ALL levels of talent. If he can't win here, nobody ever will. I have 100% faith he will bring us from the ashes and actually compete against the big boys. For the first time in a long while, I am proud to be a zips football fan!

I understand what everyone is saying. Yes, its creating a buzz. Hell, even our hire is running on ESPN's bottom-line ticker right now. However, there is a point where "purposefully dragging your feet to generate buzz" transgresses into "bad publicity because you won't announce something you said you would a long time ago". We're very close to that right now and they'd be wise to say SOMETHING or face people beginning to view this more negatively. Like others have said, just make it "official" internally, approve a tweet and a facebook post saying a full-writeup will be posted on gozips.com and move on. Thats simply how social media works now. **EDIT** as ZachTheZip said, news on twitter and facebook get old FAST.

Sizzling Zone > Ohio Burger. Seriously. Far more options before and SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper.

failed social media experiment. If they wanted to use social media to beat everyone to the punch, theyre only about 5 hours late to the fight. Such a useless marketing department effort...
-
Sorry, not going to send TW any apologies any time soon. He hasn't proven a thing to me now that I really sit down and think about it. This is a great hire and a step in the right direction for this program, but until I see progress beyond just the team's performance, I am not sold on this guy...

Its not that GREAT. Robs is still... robs... eat there and expect a case of the robs shortly thereafter. Taking out the "Sizzling Zone" and putting in a burger joint was a terrible idea... the subway there is grossly under par... union market is okay... street treats is about the only "dining option", if you can call it that, worth any money.

From what I have heard, there were two bank robberies on Market and Brittain Rd this morning between 9 and 10am. Cops apprehended the guys but I didn't hear where.

One thing comes to mind: I am entirely lost where this cover up is. I read the article justin wrote about soccer and its very well done and shows how only at akron can we lose 7 starters and keep a championship expectancy. We still had a great year, but we weren't satisfyed. We've set the bar HIGH for ourselves and rightfully so... So please enlighten me where this cover up is because all I am seeing is someone complaining that their writer is getting flack for the tressel article and using this "cover up" with UA/ABJ to justify their reasoning for being upset.... Also, I will need further proof before I believe the sentinel is always getting things right. Sure they're 2-for-2 with Grady and now Tressel, but the data sample size is too low before I can believe it.
