That tells me that Wistrcill isn't very creative. What could have been done is that you let his mother's death become public, then you give him the final game off so he can be with his family, naming someone as the acting head coach to coach the team in his absence. Behind the scenes, he is told that he is fired. But as a PR move you wait until after the final game to announce his firing. thats one half. the other is to be respectful of the great loss he's experienced in his life. Its a very tough time for him. if you can delay the decision, by any means, do so. he's got enough in his life to worry about right now, and canning him in the same week is adding insult to injury.

He wouldn't make us a Top 25 team. He could get us what OU has right now and I would take an 8-9 win season in a second. I actually think a lot of guys could win at Akron given the chance. Jim Tressel is one of the top 5 coaches in America. He's also an incredible recruiters. Trust me, we'd be Top 25 within 2-3 years. How often has any MAC team broke the top 25? And how quickly did they fall? I have a hard time believing that any MAC team could be a consistent top 25 team. Its so unrealistic for any MAC team and if it was, its almost guaranteed the coach will be leaving at season's end for greener pastures. If you want to get to the top 25 and stick around that area, youre not going to do it in the MAC...

DCI to kick off 2012 season at the Info
tbozeglav replied to bandzip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
i need to actually remember when this is so I can go. I've missed every other show (i think there's been 2 already?) because I didnt realize it until it was happening lol -
deemphasizing will be VERY difficult, especially given how commercialized collegiate football and basketball have become along with the amount of emphasis ESPN alone puts on college athletics.

LeBron, CP3, D Wade, & Carmelo Coming to Akron
tbozeglav replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I actually meant the finals against Dallas, but just generalized it by saying playoffs. I agree, they walked over boston and chicago, but they couldn't seal the deal with Dallas when they had the chance to. Him and his "dream team" getting manhandled by Dirk was all I needed to get over him, really. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Miami post-lockout (personnel changes) to repeat a finals appearance, especially now that people know how to beat the trio. -
LeBron, CP3, D Wade, & Carmelo Coming to Akron
tbozeglav replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I dont know about the rest of the greater Cleveland, and for that matter NE Ohio, but I've moved on. With the lebron & co. choking in the playoffs this past season and the current NBA lockout, I dont care one bit what he does and where. LeBron didnt get the title he said he'd get there, and now he's losing his paycheck because him and his buddies want more money. Granted he's still got endorsement paychecks, but that aside... I listen to morning radio because during my commute its usually a little bit more entertaining than listening to them spite LeBron and hate on Akron. I honestly think they are/were upset mostly due to LeBron constantly promoting AKRON and not CELVELAND, as if the city is entitled to his support or something. I don't really know why, but they seemed to think it was wrong for him to support akron and not cleveland. I laughed. Honestly, if I could, I would go to that game especially since it supports charity. If theyre not going to have an NBA season, at least use their names to help other people in the meantime. Good on them for doing that. It's most unfortunate that the entire population of Cleveland is still butt-hurt (for lack of a better term) over LeBron's decision and wish to spite him as much as they do. Art Modell? Youre damn right I'll hate that guy forever for what he did to the city. LeBron? He's just a player who went somewhere else to play with his buddies. Oh well. -

was listening to a cleveland morning radio show today and they were talking about this. A few couple to point out: 1) They were encouraging people to go and heckle LeBron as much as they could. They were none too pleased that he's coming back to this area to promote himself and his buddies. Went even so far as to say some pretty spiteful stuff about lebron, though I think they were joking. Namely that they hoped he broke his ankle while playing is exhibition game here in Akron 2) They made it clear time and time again that Cleveland is not Akron and vice versa. -
Ive been using this site for a long time. Great streams overall and TONS of options. Hopefully this one lasts a little longer. Dare I say this is BETTER than channelsurfing.net and atdhe.net combined?

+1 our other glaring issues throughout the season have overshadowed his play. -
well, i cant say im entirely surprised by the game being played in charlotte. Just disappointed.

Theyre awesome if you ask me. Keeps traffic flowing at a constant pace instead of letting it back at a normal intersection. glad theyve begun to use this more frequently

I think you guys should give it more credit... its a pretty nice facility if you ask me. Its not soccer-only like First Energy stadium, but its still nice. I think the NCAA will look into ticket sales as driving factor in the decision... will be interesting to see how this all pans out though.

Exactly... I think we have finally earned a little respect with that title last december. We should have this at home... If so, tailgate starting at noon (regardless of game time)...let's make this BIG to make up for the fun times tailgating that Ianello and Wistrcil stole from us! Lot nine is gonna be ROCKIN'. im down for this! Hoping we'll get a little bit of luck thrown our way and have another home game this weekend. Would be an AWESOME weekend for me if we did!

Should Tom Wistrcill be fired for hiring Rob Ianello
tbozeglav replied to bobbyake's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I vote yes, but Id be willing to give him another chance if hes willing to fire his buddy iCoach. -
Just noticed here at work someone posted a quick printout in the breakroom with a link to Gaffney's article and a quote stating specifically that iCoach is complacent with the current results, disregarding the problems and focusing on what theyre doing right. Im sure if you look up the article youll find the quote im referencing. Here's the kicker. I work for the University... in University offices.

I feel like this youtube video, along with Rizzo's rant from the other week, are VERY applicable to the zips right now:

youre both right. The small, divided student sections are not conducive to a strong student contingent. Compare the JAR to the hill over at the soccer stadium. There's your answer RIGHT there. I agree there are plenty of students at the basketball games. It looks like so few because of how small the two sections are. There are countless solutions, but theyre not for this thread. Regarding this thread: If none of my friends are going to the game, as a student I find it increasingly difficult to WANT to go to the game. I support my teams, yes. Always have and always will in whatever capacity I can. However, attending the game is still a social event in the form of athletic entertainment, thus I value attending the game and supporting the team IN ADDITION to being there to hang out with my friends. If you remove the latter of the two elements, it nearly halves the personal value of attendance in my opinion. That being said, the performance on the field/court/pitch is a 3rd element to my attendance, personally. I am a huge football fanatic and follow it as closely as I can, but even I won't go to one of our football games because the ESPN scorecenter notifications on my phone are depressing enough. Conversely, I will do everything I can to be at a soccer or basketball match simply because 1) the sport is entertaining, and 2) I have a good chance at viewing a winning game for my team and taking part in the celebration that comes with it. I know this sounds like the definition for a front runner, but trust me, I am not. =========== thats my $0.02 on the whole thing. Not all students see it the same way. I consider myself a member of a minority group within the student population. Most students, to my knowledge fall into one of two groups: 1) they just couldnt be bothered one bit about athletics even if they are winning because they support "bigger and better schools", or 2) only go because the team is winning and they get to hang out with their friends without ever being bothered about the game at hand.

the guy is delusional to think he's innocent of everything he's charged with. the fact that he openly admitted that he'd "fool around" with kids in that manner is beyond disturbing. Every day this goes by, the more disgusted I become with it in the sense that I can't believe this happened for so long under an organization that turned a blind eye to the matter. No words describe what I feel about this man and what the organization allowed him to do.

Are you speaking in a general sense encompassing all sports or do you have a specific sport in mind? That answer could greatly change the information we provide you. Also, i know there are other students like myself on this board as well that could give you another angle on the topic.
