IMO, throwing to a TE is nearly the same as a good running game. Like your example on the cowboys, throwing to a TE most of the time allows the D to creep in close for a hard press defense, much as they would do for a running-orinted offense. A good WR corp will keep the defense honest and allow the TEs to become more useful. Getting rid of a good WR like T.O. is both a good thing and a bad thing... on one hand you're getting rid of locker room drama, but on the other you're losing that outside and deep attack that keeps defenses honest. Youd think, however, that TEs were more useful in a spread because of how much grass the D has to cover, allowing the TE to make quick slants for a good amount of yards...

Well, I know for a fact that a lot of the CS stuff happens over at the College of Arts and Sciences building right by the Honors Dorms and Simmons Hall (interesection of Buchtel and College).I came here as an intended CS major (i've change to CIS since), but when i visited, I set up an appointment to talk with the head of the Computer Science department to really get a feel for what the university will offer me in terms of the quality of the program/degree. I don't remember who it is, but I HIGHLY recommend you do the same so that you get the full experience of everything you will be involved with as a student here. Sitting down with him and talking about everything in the department and the university is really what sold me on coming here. Not sure what else to suggest... the tour (assuming youre going to be on one of them) should cover a lot of the campus, but its a good idea to roam around afterwards so you get to see what you want.

Predictions --> Post Game Analysis
tbozeglav replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
As a current student, even I cannot begin to explain to you why this happens. Even sitting here thinking about it brings me to nothing. It's true that students don't care as much as they seemed to back in your days here, but why... I don't know. In regards to your "joining a club" statement... you're spot on. I honestly believe students sign up for the AKrowdies because of the tshirt and NOT the sports, although they aren't "turned off". The number of members in the AKRowdies has increased on a yearly basis, but after they sign up, they're never heard from again (in a sense).One thing that I really hate to bring up, but it seems to be one of the main reasons for the lack of student support is the students down in Cowlumbus. It seems to be that more and more students here at Akron are OSU "fans" (and I use that term loosely) rather than Akron fans. What that translates into is that students will only care about what's going on down in the cow pastures rather than their own back yard because they believe Akron to be an inferior and less-popular choice of a team to support based on OSU's recent "success" (again, using the term loosely). Whether or not this is ACTUALLY the case is beyond me and would take a survey of the general student body to validate, but the more I think about it the more I believe it.Now, can this be changed? Of course, but it will take quite a bit of work. If you just get the fans to the game by some means and the team is winning games (namely the home games), that will build a foundation where students see this as a fun experience and will want to come back and do it again. Thats what we're missing here. When I visited the campus as a high school senior, I never heard anything about the athletics programs and the student support. I really didn't give a damn until this past fall when I started seeing what I had been missing.I really just want to see more of an emphasis on students being at the games on both the University's and the AK-Rowdie's part. I don't care what it takes to get more students in the seats, I just want them there and exposing them to the game experience. /rant -
Ill be the first to say the Stadium over by the field house... everything else is irrelevent... hahaNo, I'd definitly say check out the Student Union, the REC center and definitely the buildings your major is located at (if you tell us what your intended major is, we can direct you to the right building). If you're into performing arts, go check out E. J. Thomas.

Predictions --> Post Game Analysis
tbozeglav replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
There is something starting today where students get "points" for attendance, and the top ones supposedly get tickets to the final game of the season at Can't. 1 point for men's games and 2 points for women's games. Hopefully that bumps it up some.Really? I haven't heard anything about that, but if its true I am glad that they are finally getting around to doing it. -

In regards to who mentioned the lack of advertisement for the basketball games... its true. Walking around campus, the ONLY sign I saw that was letting people know about the game was this cheap sign sitting in the student union saying "Mens Basketball Game Tuesday 7pm". It looked as if someone just opened up word and printed it off in 5 seconds. Now, I know there was some other advertising, but the overall majority of students either don't know about the games or don't care.Whats EVEN WORSE is that its really noticeable in the AK-ROWDIES club. Yeah, they have 1200+ students signed up, but how many of them ACTUALLY go to games. If I were to estimate, theres probably a group of about 100 students who actuall give a crap about our sports (myself included). I remember pointing this out a while ago and I'll mention it again... the AK-ROWDIES had a mandatory meeting for all students who signed up the first week or two of school. If I were to guess, nearly all those who signed up were there. However, if you look at how many of them actually show up for the games, its a small fraction of that number. My question is not why the University doesn't advertise more or why they don't do any promotions for students, but WHY THE AK-ROWDIES DON'T MAKE ATTENDANCE TO ATHLETIC EVENTS MORE MANDATORY??? If they'd simply use a "system" where you're required to show up for X amount of games for the football, X amount of games for soccer, and X amount of games for basketball, student attendance would more than likely double where it stands now. Ugh... it angers me that it just seems that not only the students but the University itself doesn't care about putting fans in the seats for their athletic programs... -
I quick look at the webcams and I notice something rather interesting...From what I can tell (and it only seems logical), it appears the construction crews have begun to put up the support framework for the lights across the top of the pressbox.I also see that crews have begun to lay the floor/ceiling for the north endzone facility too...cool stuff!

Lebron Films Super Bowl Commercial At Field House
tbozeglav replied to Akron1's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I JUST saw this yesterday and was going to post it today. Beat me to it.Im definitely going to watch the superbowl to see what kind of shenanigans he's getting into. I also second that jinx thing... -
where did you find this? all the ones on gozips are tiny (totally weak on their part). But yeah, that pic shows whats going on there. They cant put up the bleachers over that part of the stands until they've built the remaining buildings for concessions, bathrooms, etc.

ZipsNation / ZipsLive Partnership

Is there going to be a way to download or listen to the broadcast after it happens for those of us who may not be able to listen to the actual broadcast?Either way this should be a really fun way for those of us here to get some answers to questions we've had for a long time. -
I just happened to see on ESPN the other day collegiate flag-football. It was pretty fun to watch and looked like some real serious business

since when do college basketball games have to be on saturdays? Last I checked basketball is a sport that is regularly played anytime of the week, college or pro, not like football where its only on the weekend (in the majority of cases).

GJGOOD, that is precisely what I would want to see. It's the fairest way to give everyone in FBS a chance to win it all, but as you pointed out, it'll be a cold day in hell before something like that gets adopted.We can dream, though.

GP1, that'd never work. The NCAA would have to completely change every policy in place to make it work, for only 1 sport. It wouldn't be fair of the NCAA to allow football players to be paid and other sports' players not. The NCAA has strict rules against players being paid in any form (money, merch, etc.). This is why in games such as NCAA Football by EA Sports, all the players are named by their primary position and their number. I dont think that the NCAA football program needs THAT much of an overhaul. What really needs to happen first is a re-balancing of power among all conferences. Heres a thought...What if the NCAA expanded the BCS games to include enough slots for ALL the conferences so that each conference was given 1 automatic bid. It would at least give us mid-majors at getting into a good bowl game. From there, they could expand on that to set it up where a playoff system is implemented by pitting all the conference automatic bids against each other. Sure, this could potentially put a mid-major against a BCS powerhouse and increase the chances of getting steamrolled, but right now I am more concerned about at least being GIVEN the opportunity to take down a BCS powerhouse and play for a championship rather than letting a computer and a bunch of pollsters decide, in essence, who plays who. The problem with this solution is deciding which team has homefield advantage or not. The only fair way to decide it is via their record, but if both teams have the same record, they'd more than likely go to each teams national rank...It sounds like a doable solution, but to date I have yet to hear a solution that would absolutely work. There's just no single solution out there, aside from a march madness-esque system.

I cant help but to think that there will STILL be controversy even if there is a playoff system to the likes of what has been proposed. There really is no system that will ever work for NCAA Football aside from a full-scale playoff like the use in DII football, but that will never happen because of the bowls and their respective committees. What I want gone THE MOST in the NCAA is just the BCS system/computer scores. They are never a fair and true representation of the team.

Main/Exchange Apts/shops project
tbozeglav replied to ZippyRulz's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
UA has nothing to do with this project, as far as I can tell. The apartments are supposed to attract students and young professionals to live downtown.hmm... i stand corrected. I might look at those apartments next fall when I move out of the dorms. Anyone hear what the possible rent is going to be for one of those places? -

I was under the impression they weren't specifically student rooms, just that they are owned and operated by the university... -
As much as I would love to go to the Big East for the larger publicity, recruiting, etc... we don't deserve it. Big Zip is right... our soccer team is the ONLY team who has shown any reason to move to a better conference. However, it's soccer and thus not that big of a deal. If it was football or basketball who was dominating our conference, I could see the desire to move to bigger and better places, but we haven't done squat. So please... let's stop with the Big East talk. Its not going to happen for a long time...

Ethics charges against University of Akron trustee
tbozeglav replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
The thing is, the media CRAVES bad news. If you were to actually total up the number of minutes of airtime given to bad news versus good news in any given news hour, you'd see that there is a HUGE bias towards the bad news. I guess its because bad news is more intriguing to viewers and gets higher ratings, but I honestly wouldnt know. Even so, your point is valid that NO news coverage on that kind of investment is horrible. It doesn't have to be front-page news or anything, but a good article on what the U has been doing this decade would suffice. On topic... I can't really understand the basis of some of the charges. His son was the one who bought the property, not the father. On top of that, he even abstained from voting on the purchase of the property, which in my opinion should have been viewed as an act of good faith that he wasn't involved in trying to make a big profit. However, as others have mentioned, I am sure there were a ton of people who looked into purchasing property in the stadium's footprint after the announcement and they too would have made out with a profit. These charges really just seem like they are focused on someone who is on the board for the university who is purchasing a property that just happens to be related to the owner of said property. If any other person had done the same thing, nobody would have said anything and just called it a smart investment. Sometimes it seems like people are just out to redflag anyone and anything that is vaguely suspicious... -
Its amazing when driving down 8 past the stadium... I can't wait for night game days to come and see the entire area lit up. It's going to be a sight to see when driving through the area.

Ethics charges against University of Akron trustee
tbozeglav replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
how? The house lies nowhere near the footprint of the stadium and does not impede the university from being able to complete the stadium project. All it gets in the way of is the new residence halls. The stadium WILL open next year, regardless of what happens. -
semantics...I too find it annoying with people call it Akron U. I try to inform people that its actually called "The University of Akron" and "UA", but who knows if they'll remember it

The Facebook event for the game hosted by the ROWDIES group is showing roughly 150 people attending... we'll see how that pans out.

Staffing appears to be back to close to normal today, with workers on the west tower and two cranes operating.I wonder if the contractors gave the guys the day off or something...I was going to post this yesterday, but I wanted to say that we should wait till today to see if work resumes cuz if it didnt, then there's obviously something going on. However, seeing that they are working again, it must have been something inconsequential.
