  1. Im not real familiar with Green Street Stadium at St V/M but it is also primarily a football stadium so im guessing dimensions will be the same. Also, this move is probably temporary as St V/M is replacing their turf this year necessitating the move.
  2. Just a quick update on our signees. RJ Jones, playing at Cle St Ignacius is averaging 17,5 ppg and 6.3 RB. Jashawn Ladd plays for Ben Davis HS in Indianapolis and is averaging 14.7 ppg, and 3 RB, and Devan Christian at Clark HS in Las Vegas is averaging 20.4 ppg and 10 boards.
  3. In an unrelated note. I received an email on December 10th about the introduction of the Zips Fan Council. "Akron Athletics has announced the creation of the Zips Fan Council! This new council will be paramount in assisting the athletic department with initiatives that will shape our future. The purpose of the Zips Fan Council is to foster dialogue between Fans, Alumni, Donors, Season Ticket Holders, and Akron Students with the Department of Athletics. This dialogue encompasses topics directly related to the fan experience, ticket sales, and other subjects pertinent to intercollegiate athletics events. Council members are chosen with the intent of building a committee that represents the broad spectrum of Zips Fans. The mission of the Zips Fan Council is to represent the voice of the fan in supporting Akron Athletics in initiatives designed to increase the fan base and enhance the experience for the entire Zips Community." Has anyone been selected for or heard anything about this?? I applied as did several others I spoke with but have not heard anything. Just wondered
  4. If memory serves me the annual trip to arctic Buffalo has not always been kind to the Zips. Would be nice to get Sharron and Chabi back.
  5. Joe and coach Rodriguez do seem to find talent. But the unfortunate thing is It always seems to take 3 or 4 games to figure things out . We are competitive after that but having 3 or 4 losses before jelling makes a 6 or 7 win season pretty difficult
  6. Fundamentals cost them the game. 20plus TOs, Missed 18 FREE THROWS! and up 3 with 5+ seconds to go everyone knows you foul. Dont allow a streak shooter to even attempt the tying shot. Not to mention that was against a team that had fouled out SIX! yes SIX players!
  7. One might imagine 8 hours in a plane and the Virgin Island resorts are a distraction for some of these youngsters.
  8. We attended the Akron at YSU exhibition game earlier this month and was mildly impressed with their arena. They didn’t do a full redesign but replaced all the old seats (in a very similar design. Lower level chairs upper level bleachers)with new chair backs with cup holders and armrests from floor to ceiling on both sides for 1.8 million last year by Hussein seating out of Maine. Still holds 5700 down from 6300
  9. Just curious how much Infocision financing was in the first place. Stadium was @61million less 15million from Summa and Infosicion.Approximate debt $46 million. its now 16 years old,and assuming we are paying $4.5 million weve already paid @ $72million. 25 years would be $112,000,000. That seems excessive. And how long do Infocision and Summa own the naming rights??
  10. Just curious. I’m watching the game and listening to the radio feed over iHeartRadio. All the commercials are Columbus Airport and Kroger and Casino. There are no local sponsors. Or is that just over the Internet feed? Is anyone listening to the game on 640?
  11. I heard that too, and he didnt mince words. apparently the "ACR?" penalty prohibits post season games and removes an additional day of practice weekly! (one off day was already mandated so we are only practicing 4 days a week vs 5 for everyone else we play
  12. Sounded like its a strain and not a tear which is good. Overall they looked tremendously deep! Brisco looks solid, and Amani has been working on his 3 ball
  13. Ive noticed Chris Gee is holding up the big blue tarp behind the signal squad
  14. I heard Dave on the radio call say Newell was back after a two game suspension for violating team rules. Also that Alex Adams was back, but No targets for the former all american??whats up with that?
  15. admittedly im not a coach, nor have i played football since 8th grade. But fundamentally I cant accept all the dropped passes. i dont expect one hand grabs but if it hits both hands catch the dang ball. and why cant Ben go under center on a 3rd or 4th and short? wouldnt a running back with momentum have more of a chance than stepping back and handing to a RB 4 yards behind the line? also- any info on Alex Adams or Newell injuries??
  16. Just watched the Zips weekly coaches show. No mention of Semaj Beals. He just committed at the beginning of August. Is he gone already?? Thought his size and speed would be a good replacement for Tahj
  17. obviosly we werent available, since were playing in the Jack Jones classic in Las Vegas that day. Its actually quite a day of hoops. 4 games. UC San diego, Tulane, Arizona St, UNLV, Santa Clara, Tennessee St, Murray State and Akron.
  18. Jackson, Reece, and Daily are the 'seniors'.
  19. Got an email announcing gametimes of 1st 2 games to be announced by joe Dunn And David Skoczen. I know not everyone cared for French and Dunn but just letting him go seems wrong
  20. Is anyone else shocked by UA letting go Steve French and replacing him with Dave Skoczen? No offense to Dave but doesn’t 30plus years of doing zips games deserve a retirement goodbye?
  21. I agree with most of what you said NW. However, to be clear Tim Lester at WMU only makes 800,000 before cuts, while Jason Candle makes 1,150,000 at Toledo. And they went 6-6 last year with no bowl game, and they lost to their big rival BG.
  22. dustin fox has done color on several zips football broadcasts on espn3/+ the last couple years. Lets hope his ignorance is rewarded with no more games ever again. I believe UA must approve broadcast personnell .
  23. in keeping with the memories theme, which I agree with. you have to remember back in the 80s when UA forced Huggins and company to go independent so football could be 1A. Life as an independent is not sustainable. Can we really justify flying our womens golf and cross country teams and the rest accross the country for (summit league) conference matches? It seems like whatever we save by dropping football would be spent on new expenses plus wed still have Infocision to pay off.
  24. my guess is no. In fact Larry Williams is going to be live on WAKR 93.5 friday morning between 7 and 9 discussing the challenges during the pandemic at UA.
  25. Just reported on channel 3 by Jim Donovan. MAC is mulling over option to allow immediate family only! 3 relatives per player, no band, no cheerleaders! obviously no fans. Uggh
