  1. Boring and ugly.. Was really hoping to see them update the color scheme or something special..
  2. Akron better hope "daddy" doesn't get in the way and force his kid to go to a college daddy wants like he just did for Josh's high school career. Forcing his son to miss half the season of his junior year and never getting to play on the same team with his brother, which was a very big deal to Josh from folks I have talked too. Really is a shame how many parents live the lives they wanted through their kids. If that is the case.
  3. Since when? Akron has to actually do something to garner that kind of attention, being ranked for the first time in the program's history, zero NCAA tournament win and no big marquee wins does not scream high mid major. I think we are well on our way, but it seems like we can't make that next step. Hopefully we can get that consistent mid major that makes the NCAA and it would be nice if we could make a run. But I think it is unrealistic to say this team is high mid major without actually accomplishing something first.
  4. This happens all the time....and yes, you would gladly take him. Get with the times...just a fact of life. A kid turned down Baylor a couple years ago because they had boring uniforms. Kids talk about look all the time.
  5. I never said big games only. Im not paying to watch low level MAC basketball, it's awful to watch and the quality is very poor. Ohio, Can't, and a couple of oddballs a year are there and are worth watching. I have zero interest in Arkansas PB, John Carroll, Texas Southern, Coppin State, Florida AM, NC AT, Youngstown St...the reason people don't go to the games is the majority of northeast Ohio don't even realize that most of those schools really have basketball programs. Why would anybody want to go see that? Their schedule absolutely is a problem. I love that they go to a tournament or play a big boy on the road. But there is no reason they can't get a 2 for 1 with some of those schools like Cleveland St, BG, etc..etc.. It doesn't have to be a top 25 program. They have to bring teams in that people have actually heard of if they want people to show up. We need more of Princeton, VCU (yes I know Shaka won't play us, just an example) Middle Tennessee, and add in some name schools. That is the issue I have. We need to badly get into a new conference and sadly, you can't have one without the other. You need a new arena bare minimum to get a new conference. But how do you pay for a new arena without fans in the seats to help the cost and donations?
  6. I think it takes more than a new facility. Once the glitz of the idea of a new arena wears off, you are still stuck watching Akron play a bunch of terrible basketball teams in the middle of winter. I am not driving to see Akron play MAC basketball, unless it' Can't or Ohio. I sure as hell am not paying to see them play the team they play in the OOC schedule that they have had recently, outside of less than a handful of games. Dambrot has nobody but himself to blame for poor attendance. His winning streak of 20+ games is worthless when you factor in how awful the schedule is. Nobody cares that you win in the MAC. As seen by the amount of people that show up to games vs Directional Michigan or Bowling Green. Also, he needs to actually compete in the NCAA Tourney and win a game. Getting there isn't that impressive to Joe Akron. They have to capture the attention of the local like Ohio did and Can't did but also be consistent in getting there and being competitive against top teams. I would pay to see the local games, Cleveland St, Can't, Ohio etc... at the JAR. I would pay to see them play top mid majors like Dayton, Xavier, Creighton, Butler, etc...etc... I would pay to see them play BCS teams. Until they upgrade their schedule, nobody is going to watch them play at the JAR and even if they had a new arena, after the first year, nobody will watch them play the same teams they are playing. However, I assume it is pretty tough to get some of these schools to even consider coming to the JAR without something unfavorable in return. But if BG can get Michigan State to come visit, than the Zips better get something done on the schedule front.
  7. Not a prayer in the world that Akron would turn this kid away if he was interested in coming here. Also not much of a prayer that kid of his playing ability would consider coming here.
  8. I also believe he can get there. What has really limited him was that for the longest time he never cared about basketball. That's a huge issue for an NBA team. Are you going to take a fringe guy that feels that if he doesn't make it in the NBA, then he has nothing so therefor he will try to kill himself to make it or take Zeke, a guy that doesn't seem to care to get there and knows he will be just fine if he doesn't make it and go to his desired career path? Over the last year, we've seen more emotion out of Zeke than we have in the previous three. But I can almost guarantee you that his lack of love for the game is on his scouting report for every NBA team wanting to take a chance on him.
  9. Which is not a good thing. He is a very capable shot blocker against bigs, he is awful against guards driving. He goes for the block way too much, rather than staying in position, contesting, turning and rebounding. That is an efficient rebounder playing smart defense. Plenty of bigs can step out and hit long 2s, but you won't find any coach wanting him to do that. He is too weak in the lower body to not get pushed around. A great example of a much more polished scorer who has the same problem in the NBA is the Cavs Tyler Zeller. Now Zeke is no where near as polished as Tyler was on the offensive end in any aspect and Tyler can barely muster any offense at the next level. He is extremely limited, you have blinders if you think otherwise.
  10. Doesn't rebound efficiently enough for somebody his size, very limited offensively. Probably undrafted with an invite to summer league. I hope he sneaks in the second round, that would be a nice plug for the school to have a drafted NBA player.
  11. Clearly a T was warranted. He got it for pulling himself up on the rim. He had just let his momentum take him back to go on the floor, nothing would have been called. The second you lift yourself up on the rim, you are getting nailed with a T. Is it by the definition? Yes. He clearly lifted himself up beyond the ring, which resulted in the T.
  12. Indiana was the season before last...but even last season was awful like this season was. I must have missed the top 25 ranked UCF team...oh that's right, I didn't. Very marginal. Who exactly they did beat last year worthy of any substance? Didn't even win a very weak CUSA conference. Tough team!!! I am very aware Kansas won one game last year and they still would slaughter Akron.
  13. Being negative? No, it's realistic. It's the truth. This is the same team that got slaughtered by an awful Indiana team last year. Got embarrassed by a marginal UCF team. Lost by double digits to 5 MAC teams. How exactly is that statement absurd? To say anything positive about the Zips football team playing ability is an absurd comment. We all hope they turn it around, but they have won 2 games in 3 years and you are jumping on my back about that comment? Give me a break and take your blinders off.
  14. And they will still throttle the Zips by 4 touchdowns.
  15. LOL...How is he trolling? The attendance comment really got you guys that upset? He hasn't done anything out of line and if you can't take another poster talking about their team attendance, how will you guys when people actually troll? Talk about overreaction to absolutely nothing..
  16. Should be a big crowd vs Can't State obviously, but until we get a marquee win over a named opponent, a big recruit from this area or consistently win, then I dont see things change much.
  17. Notre Dame isn't allowed to be relevant. MSU was just way over hyped and the Big Ten is a poor football conference.
  18. The team won two games in two years for a reason....they aren't going to be deep in every position. But we have an offense that will hopefully help the defense a bit but putting points on the board. I wonder if attendance will start to tick up as the season goes on or if Akron will ignore what is going on down at the Info.
  19. Fun game to watch, like a posted said above, hopefully this translates to MAC play. I dont think there is any doubt we will be able to move the ball all year. Question is whether this defense will be able to hold up and keep us in games. Feels good to be excited about the Zips!
  20. It was even better to watch, such a drastic change from the last few years. They are fully capable of running, passing, moving the ball, being exciting. Such a great thing to see, I am really hoping it translates to MAC play and we can pick up a few wins there as well.
  21. Im not acting like I am better. I already said how I feel about this team. It is you with the smug attitude sir. Im done with it,
  22. lol really??? I have family that went there, Catholic and grew up with the team. Just like when I talk about Cleveland Browns, Cavs or the Zips or any of my teams, I will use our or my. Im a true fan. Again, coming from an Akron board, it's absolutely hilarious.
