  1. I think you are reaching if you you believe there will be more than 15k in attendance for the opener. What would make you believe otherwise? Yes, to us, it's great that Bowden is our coach and we are hopefully back to being on the right track but the rest of the people in the Akron area and NEOhio do not care to see Akron football. I think the last two years have proven that. Sadly, it is going to be another embarrassing year attendance wise and football wise (Not at fault to Bowden, just the cupboard is just too bare to expect anything else.) I will be there, hoping for the best....but to believe otherwise, is really reaching.
  2. I am a fan of the single thread idea and def appreciate your effort. Now with all the pinned recruit threads, I am lost on when we got them and who is new. If it isn't too much to ask, when the first page of this thread is updated is there anyway to add a date to the day you updated the commit list? I know you are doing a lot as is but would be much easier to follow that way. The pinned threads have their place, to discuss each recruit on a single page, but it would def help those that want a quick overview! Thanks!
  3. If you'd like to find out how tough I am off the internet I'd be happy to chat with you at the VCU game internet punk. I never said people couldn't give their opinion. I was simply pointing out that a new username came on here and immediately started blasting out one guy. If you don't think that's suspicious than you're as dense as I've always taken you to be. Did he really just say that??? ^^^^ Wow....no wonder why this board has gone downhill the last couple years. Internet thugs, lol.....ha. No issue with a new member posting about a potential candidate. He has worked for some big programs, got a promotion to OC this year but I saw a post that he may not have been calling plays. That is def something to worry about. Can anybody confirm that? One year as an OC is a stretch as well, that seems like a big jump to be a HC but then again, at Akron, you cant expect good coordinators to come in and be head coaches. Just not realistic.
  4. If KD doesn't get AA's surgery done asap so he can recover during the Florida A&M, YSU & North Carolina A&T games (when we shouldn't need him) in order to be up to speed for the VCU & Marshall tilts (in which we'll desperately need him), I'd be tempted to say that KD's going for 3 easy wins -vs- the former 3 while looking for a built-in excuse -vs- the latter two. Tempted, mind you. Not saying he is, necessarily. But I'd be tempted... I doubt that's correct, according to what GoZips mentioned earlier, Shaka is afraid to play Akron and tried to beg out of playing the game
  5. This is where you are wrong. This team can still play in the half court, they are a fast team on defense, not offense. They run their sets, they work inside out and they have guys that can create and attack and they got guys that can shoot. This is a very completely team. The only thing that do not do well is stay out of foul trouble. They pressure like crazy, but they can foul. This game isn't going to be close. Akron doesn't have the guard play to match up. I can see this one getting ugly, but I am going to say it's 72-56
  6. Troy beat up on Ohio in New Orleans a couple of years ago and Solich remarked that the thing that hurt them most was the disparity in the number of plays for each team. He typically has a pretty high scoring offense and decided that Ohio needed to up its average play total from 65 to 75 or 80 to better leverage that advantage. Troy's controlled "no-huddle" accomplishes that. He and his coaching staff approached Troy's and traded information - Ohio providing information on defensive schemes, Troy sharing concepts behind their no-huddle. Ohio has taken it slow this year - it's not a hurry up offense by any stretch, but they've boosted the number of plays to well over 70 per game as a result. Yep. That is what good coaches do. Continue to learn and change if necessary. It's ok, we have a process in place.
  7. The link doesn't work. Just tell us. HEARD that Akron will be getting a ton of 5th year ND guys -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- next year. Dayne Crist Anthony McDonald Dan McCarthy Deion Walker Brandon Newman David Posluzny Lane Clelland Hafis Williams Are all talking with Coach I and Powlus about transfering into Akron and playing 1 year to get a better shot at the NFL. Not being totally familiar with the rules, but how would this be possible without sitting out a year? Graduating players can go to a different school and play immediately if the school they are going to has a graduate program not currently being offered that their current school.. And how are we in deep crap if that happens? That is a great influx of talent, although just for one year. I cant imagine all of those players coming though, maybe one or two...
  8. I was willing to give him time, but his coaching is just flat out pathetic. This team isn't even competitive. They don't belong on the field in almost any game they play. I doubt that we will be renewing season tickets this year, especially since if you want to go to a game you can get them for free. As if nobody showing up to the games is bad enough, what will it take to get this guy fired? I really feel this is getting to the point to where it may be beyond repairable....that is a scary thought.
  9. I have never been impressed with his play, and last night he looked anything but a vet on the floor. He almost caused a huge collapse at the end while inbounding the ball. (I am pretty sure he was the inbounder on both late plays). The first one, he misses the PG streaking to the ball wide open and gives it to Diggs who fails to realize he is covered by two guys, travels, turns it over and the next play Zeke fouls out. Get the ball to the wide open PG, none of that happens. Two free throws later, he goes to throw the ball in and AGAIN he misses the wide open PG. He had countless no effort errors, looked scared, rushed his jumper. Played poor D. He looked just awful out there. He is a vet, this is not something you should see out of him. That is scary that he is starting with a performance like that. I really hope he is able to turn it around because he is by far the weakest link on this team.
  10. Would love to get my hands on those shorts....that is def an item that should put for sale in the store or somewhere.
  11. Which is something that always boggled my mind...as an athlete I was not positioned with the option (I played NAIA basketball) but given the choice, I would much rather go to a little bit of a smaller school, mid major, get a chance to play sooner and have a chance at success than go to a school like Indiana, who is never going to be competitive in the Big Ten, wait to play and then endure five losing seasons.I get you get more gear, maybe a bigger fan base, and it's a "name" school....but I will never get why borderline players choose that route. And we have lost a bunch of kids to Indiana over the last couple of years in our foot print. That HAS to change.I hate it when a kid just can't work up the nerve to admit he changed his mind because he has decided he doesn't like a teams uniforms. If that is your way at taking a dig at me....I guess it would be a tad late to say grow up?Not sure I see any intentional insult.Thought that came to my mind was that Alabama probably offered the kid more moneynow that they see him having an outstanding senior season. Just a thought.Wasn't sure myself...I just recall a couple of people giving me crap because I backed a writer that stated the look of uniforms plays a major role in recruiting.

  14. Ironically, I had sloppy joes Tuesday night.Papa Johns last night, kind of sad how far that place has fell over the last ten years, used to be really good pizza. Complete crap now...
  15. A new arena is a must if we are to move to a higher conference...we are in total agreement. A new arena or an improved JAR is needed for the Zips to make the next step even without a new conference. But I think it would be wrong to not try and elevate the MAC. Where was the Horizon a few years ago. We should try to improve the MAC in all sports while keeping our options open should something be available that will improve the stature of the UofA. For me...I am not a fan of CUSA. But that may be our only option. That is one reason I think a lot of effort to improve the MAC should be made...it gives us more options. The MAC can be a solid basketball conference, but as a whole, I am not sold that every school is interested in improving their overall athletic profile. If the MAC wanted to make strides and improve as a whole as a better conference, I would be sold. Geographically, it is a nice conference. But Akron clearly wants to improve its status and a new or improved arena would go a long with that thinking.
  16. You are making a miscalculation. Is this because Quincy is your brother? While Diggs is continuing to improve as a player (his shooting stroke is vastly improved over last year, his work ethic is outstanding, and he sees and reacts to the floormuch better than before), he still has two other factors that affect his playing time. First, Chauncey Gilliam and Brett McClanahan anchor the shooting guard slot nicely.Second, Q is still showing signs of getting frustrated with himself and losing his cool. While it is only my opinion, I still would love to see Quincy take on the sixth man role.He would get more minutes at the six than he will at the three. You are underevaluating just how good Nick Harney is. I watch these kids practice. Do you?Playing Q on the point would allow a sweet and tall three guard line up. Whichis another excellent option. Personally, I do not want to see Diggs relegated to a reserve role backing up the three spot.He needs and deserves to be a twenty-five minute man. That means playing him where he contributes the most. Quincy and Keith Dambrot will decide that. Why not answer the question without a personal attack? it makes everything else you say seem pointless. The quality of conversation on this forum has really gone down the hill the last two years...it's either I know more than you and I am right or I am more of a fan than you. Quite old....
  17. One factor KD and the Akron athletics staff has to look at is if they ever want to move beyond the MAC conference, a new arena is something that will most certainly be done. They can't be in an upper conference playing in a HS type facility.
  18. Which is pathetic. I still can't believe we don't have 5500 people in the Akron area that want to come to games at the JAR. There are very few things I enjoy more than Zips basketball. I go to the Can't game and go wherever they play Cleveland St but outside of that, I am not going to a piece of crap arena so I can struggle to see the game on a bench. The seating in that place is horrendous, bench seating at a DI college program? It's pathetic. And sad...there are better high school venues in the area. The quality of teams that come to the JAR isn't worth going to see. I can stream it or catch a couple games on TV. But I am excited to see VCU. I also will be making the trek to CSU to watch them play (where I finished grad school) and on the complete opposite of Akron, that is a pretty decent place to see a game. Good view from almost anywhere and access to chair back seats. So, bottom line is ... you are not a Zips fan. Im not an Akron alum, I pay money for season tickets for the football team and follow the Zips basketball team as much as I can. I would consider myself a local fan and as far as having your approval of whether I am a fan or not, I really couldn't care less. As more locals think like me, the bottom line is, the quality of visitors to the JAR has to drastically improve if they ever want butts in the seats. I am sure KD has tried, but I am pretty certain he realizes that the best chance for the Zips to make it to the NCAAs is to win the MAC tournament, not get an at-large, and that's why you will never see a better schedule. Pad it with cupcakes, get 20 wins, build momentum into the MAC season and hope they catch fire late and make a run. I really believe that is his strategy.
  19. Upper reserved seats (individual seats with chair backs and arm rests) are only $15 per seat if you hate riding the pine ($10). Those upper reserved seats offer a really good view too. In my opinion the JAR is a pretty good place to watch basketball. There aren't that many places left that put you that close to the action anymore (BGSU's Anderson used to be GREAT for getting close to the action). In my opinion there is nothing else like it when there is a big crowd with that sort of energy @ the JAR. You can absolutely feel the energy coursing through you when the team gets on a run and the crowd gets going. If you want to go to a terrible arena, go check out K-S-U's MAC Center. The entire upper level is an obstructed view of any scoreboard in the arena and the view of the court is a thin space between the large beam running across the roof and some mouth breathing Can't State a-hole in front of you (I can post pictures). The JAR is a palace compared to that place. Really, be grateful. Also, in addition to the VCU game, don't forget about the Detroit game. That game should be awesome. Detroit is receiving a lot of press about being the next team to unseat Butler on their way to the top of the Horizon with Ray McCallum Jr. and Eli Holman. The Titans also stole Juwan Howard Jr. away from Western Michigan (although he has to sit out this year). Hopefully you will enjoy coming to more games. Come for the team, not the arena! Dont get me wrong...I enjoy supporting the team and the games when I go. I don't get the chance to make many games, with an oddball work schedule that limits me. When we play good teams, it is a good environment to watch a game. Any chance I get, I try to sit in the reserve when I get a chance. But most games, I don't know if I can go until the day of and typically for the games I choose to go to, those seats are already gone. It would be nice to see some more quality teams to come through...that's all.

  21. Any player who is willing to admit that they would base their program selection, even a little bit, based on uniforms should be dropped from consideration at once. Luckily that doesn't seem to be an issue with the current recruiting class (all 3 or 4 of them). And you would be losing a lot of players interest. This isnt 1965, players care what they look like on the field. Whether you like that or not doesn't matter, that is the reality. Dont kid yourself one bit, that is a very big deal to players.
  22. Very good performance by Ohio's band there....to say anything otherwise is just a flat out line of jealousy. That was a very good musical piece and it was entertaining. I went to the OSU game, wasn't too impressed with their band but I did go to the Notre Dame/Pitt Game and Pitt had a very good opening performance. Good marching, good drums and entertaining. I want to be entertained as a spectator. That is something I can't say I feel Akron's band has done. Not that they have not done well, I enjoy the opening, halftime is ok but overall, I am have never left saying wow...Akron did a great job. I got that from Pitt's band in their opening as well as with that performance by Ohio.
  23. Hell, they dont even need to schedule big time teams. I am just looking for some quality at the JAR. Id pay to see them play Northwestern, Xavier, Dayton, Temple, St Joes, etc..etc... I don't want to watch them play Hiram.
  24. Really? It's cool if he was. I just don't recall hearing that. AA is the one that sticks in my mind. If A-train was used before, we should go in a completely different direction. Yeah, he went by A Train. So we should figure out something not so close to that one....but I am not good at these sort of things, lol.
  25. the 1 for 6 would have been 5 for 6 if the recievers catch the ball don't even try to spin this thing. The buckeye game should have been 2 for 3, temple 6 for 7 with all the drops. They need to find recievers that can catch. Moore can't hold Nicely's jock strap. he's a Div2 QB at best!!lol...yes. It's the OL. Oh wait, it's the WRs. Oh shoot, got it wrong again...it's the bad coaching. Whatever excuse there is, you PN7 apologists give it for Nicely. But none of those problems exist when Moore is the QB right?Comical.
