Are any you of real referees? I always tell people, go take the class and get through some middle school games and then come back and critique the officiating.

I also did not graduate from Akron.....(started before going elsewhere)....But I am from the area and wish success to the school, just because it is local.

Judging by attendance, I am not sure the marketing programs were effective or not. I was a fan of the Fear the Roo campaign, we just did not have talent on the football team to make it work. I am not sold the current AD has the ability to develop a marketing plan that will really benefit this team. I think we all know by now, getting support from NEOhio for this team is unlikely. So rather worry about marketing, how about this team puts all resources in getting talent and supporting the coaching staff. I agree with Capt, the uniforms were severely outdated. This year was a step in the right direction, the white helmets and the switch to the Z is a good tactic. I happened to like to the all black and chrome, but I will agree that we caught the tail end of that trend. We need to be ahead of the uni trends for next year so it does not appear that we are just copying. There aren't many ideas left, but at least be a bit more unique with it. At the end of the day, the uniforms are for the players and prospective players of the program. Not the 2,000 people that come to watch.

What identity? We do not have one........so what exactly are you worried about?

Players are going to other schools because of uniforms..........that's the whole point of why teams are doing these alternates, the recruits want them. Stop crying about it and get used to it. Akron pride? In what? A horrific program? There is nothing to be prideful about, these coaches are trying to create something players would like to come too. What were they supposed to sell? The pride of Akron that can barely get more fans than a high school game? For the life of me....I do not understand all the crying about uniforms.

I would love to see this notion of him staying for the longterm.....it is way too premature to discuss such a scenario.....but there is absolutely no way he stays here if he makes a run of two, three seasons like this year (assuming they finish strong.) Sorry folks, if he can find the stability with a bigger program and double the pay, he takes it. There is no reason for him not too. His family is not hurting for money, but $600k-$1m per year is something Akron doesn't have the purse strings for and would be nearly absurd to turn down. There is no way I would blame him. If I get offered 10-15% more at my current job, I am jumping ship.

Hopefully the bigger win today is what Akron does in recruiting......should be a lot more welcome to go in to those homes with a Pitt W on the burner.

That schedule just screams excitement for people to want to come and cheer on such a high level of basketball................. Your average basketball fan is going to recognize maybe one or two of those teams. Many people don't even realize Marshall has a basketball program....

Amazing....love em!!!!!!!!

Akron isn't in the position to turn talent away. He was a highly touted prospect that had every opportunity to be a QB at the BCS level. With all the connections, this is absolutely worth a look. The MAC is a Qb driven league, if he can develop into the right leader at that spot, we can be successful. Hopefully he works out.

GP1 wants to attract players that want to win, if that is the case, why would any player want to come to Akron? Akrron needs to do whatever it can to attract players. The uniforms, facilities, coach are all part of a package. It isn't just the uniform that attracts players. Alabama wore an alternate uniform, just like Ohio State did with their Nike deal. It is a big reason why Notre Dame switched to Under Armor. Athletes do not like Adidas. Is it the sole focus? No. But it is part of the package. At the end of the day, it is a big deal to the athlete. They want to look good on the field, and after losing every single game for the most part for the better part of four years, do you know how much impact just having a new uniform on would mean to a fourth/fifth year player? And if it helps sway one player away from another school, it is a good thing.

More than anything, it just shows how out of touch some of the fan base is regarding uniforms. Uniforms do not create a brand anymore, with all the change in current uniforms, only a handful schools are really stick to their traditional uniform. Most other schools are changing constantly. At the end of the day, that is what THE PLAYERS want. The staff needs to do whatever it can to attract players. Uniforms, the many options of them, equipment contracts, gloves, etc.. are one of those ways. Get used to it.

Jerseys look good. Players will love them. Love the font of the numbers. Only question I have is how the helmet will look in person.

What happened to Kincade? Do we expect him to RS and compete in 15?
-
We have had too many players ride along in the back seat lately......

If it is about funding for jail and sheriff budgets, tossing in an arena for a college makes no sense. I have not talked to one person that will vote for this. The post above about school levies passing is about timing, how many of those schools went 10+ years without getting them to pass? School levies rarely pass on the first shot. Just like this will not get passed on the first attempt. You can say the school is only getting a small portion, but you can bet your bottom dollar that those that oppose this ballot will make sure everybody knows this is about building an arena. Not funding for jail and sheriff.

Malcolm Walters PG 2014 verbal
Roo replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
I am glad he is a walk on, but getting excited about a walk on is a stretch.... Dambrot needs to be able to start bringing in some impact recruits that can come in on day one and make a difference. Obviously not implying the entire class needs to be that way, but the majority of all Akron recruits take years to bear any fruit. We have gotten solid players, but if we keep reloading with just solid players, I don't see how this team gets over the hump. Maybe that kid from Nevada could be that guy....but it would be nice to see one of these recruits just take over and make a huge impact day one. -
Per PD, Harney has been kicked off the team for conduct detrimental to the team. What the heck happened??

And you know as much as I do that all of those stats are useless. You don't have to lie to yourself about Zeke being extremely limited on offense. But if that stat reference is your best help, and not actual game footage and a career average of less than 10 PPG in a very average/below average league. First scouting reporting on google, which didn't take long...draftexpress..

7 Footers that block shots in the MAC is not very impressive when they have zero offensive skill set and no ability to play within a offense that runs sets of motion with the big being at least a consideration to score. And John Edwards was an extremely late bloomer that could function within an offense that got extremely lucky with a poor roster of bigs in Indiana. He got lucky more than anything.
-
You are missing the point that he just isnt that good... You have to understand how much talent is actually out there. How many DI schools are there? He didn't exactly impact the MAC. The Euro talent is significantly better as well. Plus there is a limit to how many non-Euro (or that country, depending on the league) a team can keep on their roster. So he isnt fighting to make a roster of 15, he is fighting to making a roster of 2 or 3.

Wow...James Madison is making Akron look really bad...
-
Welp, they made that look extremely easy. If Akron can't make James Madison work for it, it will be another long long season...
