just when I was starting to not mind OSwho
Spin replied to zipseuph's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
This is the thinking that drives college football, and will hold back anybody but about a dozen programs for anything (championships, awards) as long as these elitists are in control. He likes to brag about how strong the Big Ten schedule is. But the bottom half of the Big Ten would have a real challenge in the WAC, MWC, CUSA, or MAC. Why should the 104th and 105th rated programs in the country be eligible for stuff the 3rd and 4th rated teams are? Just because of their conference? If the conference is the only problem, let these schools into the "legacy" conferences and drop some of the dead weight. They don't WANT anyone outside the big 4 or 5 conferences to be able to show what they're capable of. They just might be that good. I'm glad college basketball isn't controlled by these elitists... -
ABJ Notices Low InfoCision Attendance

How could he do that, there shouldn't be any bad elements left after JD got rid of them all, which is the reason he used for sucking. -
They must really love Dolan...

MLS Growth is Good for Akron Soccer
Spin replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
It think there's some growth, whether it ever moves into the top four I don't know. It's making strides, but we'll need more than just the 2010 WC to keep the momentum going. I also think the haters are going to hate and will never change. That's nothing against the sport, each one has it's detractors. They just happen to like the popular sports and want to criticize everyone else. If it were the other way around... So we criticize a sport because an athlete is 5'8 and not built for basketball or football. That's a reach... Maybe Zeke wanted to play soccer but was too tall and uncoordinated. Does that mean basketball is stupid? Maybe we should compare attendance figures within UAkron... -
We have a saying in car racing. "If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch."

You know what, you can have your rivalry with Cleveland, it's all well and good. But LeLoser made an ass out of all of us. Not just Cleveland. To warm my old quote back up, Just because you're from Akron doesn't mean I have to like you.

NOW he asks "What should I do"? Things would have been a LOT different if he had asked that question before his hour long prime time SCREW OHIO FEST. Here's what you can do. Go to he!!.

For schtinking up the league, going somewhere else, and THEN putting together a championship team? It's the NEOhio way...

Are we really that good?

Will the Soccer Team Outscore the Football Team?

Minnehaha as well Minnesota is pretty much Akron's Big Ten twin brother. Never can seem to get it going, rarely show signs of being anything better than mediocre at best. Both open new stadiums during the same year and lose to a FCS team on the same day. Think we can schedule them?
-
If the team was well coached, and were just outplayed, I'd be the first to say he doesn't have his guys in yet. It's going to take time. But a drive killing illegal procedure (after several last week) is inexcusable at this level. It's not new systems, it's not trying to put lipstick on the pig handed over by JD. It's the most basic freaking fundamentals. Line up where you're suppose to be. OMG the QB is under center now. So that means position players can't figure out where in the hell he's suppose to be lined up??? We have to use the same simple formation play after play year after year? That's on the coaches. It should have been remedied in camp. And it certainly should have been fixed after Syracuse. But it wasn't and it cost us a drive. That took the wind out of the team. Playing a 2 deep zone all day, the GW cheerleaders could game plan that. No adjustments whatsoever, on either side of the ball. Missed field goals. A FG blocked by a I-AA school with 4000 students. Yes they're a good I-AA school, ranked 193 in the country. We were 173rd AND at home. We just plain got out-coached.

Unfrickenbelieveable.

Really? Still can't line up?

Will the Soccer Team Outscore the Football Team?
Spin replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
The Zips soccer team will score more often than Cornbread does this season. How's that? -
Too bad we couldn't open against GW.

Can't get me out of your mind, can ya? -
For those of you who question my fan-hood, my first date with my high school sweetheart was a Zips football game. Everyone laughed then, we've been married almost 25 years. Since then she's graduated from Akron and I will next year. Non-traditional students. Anyway yeah I've seen a few alone. None of my friends are fans. Infatuated with "the vest". I just run around with the wrong crowd I guess.

Skip, I have to feel motivated in order to go into research mode. I just don't feel motivated to go off in search of data related to being an ACC member in only the sport of soccer. I don't think this data would be easy to find, and I'm just not motivated to spend the hours required in search of numbers that may well not be available anywhere. It might be possible to find numbers related to belonging to the MAC and ACC in all sports. But everyone knows that UA is never going to become a full member of the ACC. Not only that, but what kind of revenue are you looking for in college soccer? Even if we got a stipend from Wake and NC, would that offset the difference in travel to the other schools?
-
I'm all for getting into a better conference (I prefer the Big Ten because of travel and fan familiarity with the other schools). It improves our overall competition. What do the MAC schools offer us as far as competition to prepare us for the post season? The Big Ten has four teams in the top 25 right now. Think about the rivalry with a regular season and most likely a B10 final against tOSU. I just don't see how weighing down our schedule slaughtering MAC fodder does anything to prepare the team, or improve their ranking. Independent wouldn't be bad. But you sit and wait while everyone else goes through their conference tourney. And you miss out on that revenue. And we get to see less games (even if they are MAC fodder).

Thank you. Thank you very much. I appreciate you realizing I am the only poster who thought the team was unprepared. I am the only poster who thought the customer service was a "little" lacking I am the only poster who thought the price jack was a little ridiculous. Your man crush thing is a little unsettling, but I decided you get the "Flying Bird Award" because only YOUR opinion matters!!! Now let's all get together and sing the Barney song, and then talk about all the positive things going on in Zip Football... {crickets chirping}

Well you're in a different situation. You don't look at things the same way a lot of other people do.
-
You got that right. I didn't want to go. Because I knew full well I would just sit there and get ticked off all night, we would get embarassed, and IT WASN'T WORTH IT. Get a freakin clue. I would pay that to see the soccer team play. I don't care who they are playing. THEY'RE WORTH IT. They're entertaining. It's the fans who would pay anything to see anything as long as it's Zips Football, is the reason they don't care if they build a winner or not. They went to the Larry Dolan school of "Getting Rich off of Ignorant Fans".
