I recall a motion in the late 90's to contract Can't-Stark because it was so close in proximity to UA; drive another 10-minutes(ish) north & you're on UA's campus. Though it never came to pass, I was all for it. I've always felt Can't-Stark was a Can't State low blow to UA - putting that branch right on Interstate 77 about ten-minutes south of campus. I'd love to see those 4000 students drive another 10 minutes & go to a real school.Where would they park?

Hard to beieve it's been there since 1960. You never hear about it. Last spring they had 13,353 enrolled. Next door Can't State Stark enrolls 4,820.

I see a recurring theme here. Rookie head coach in over his head. No gameplan. No depth on the line. No adjustments. And an embarrassment to their fans. You could rotate the HC's between the Zips, Buckeyes, and Browns and get the same results.

The Akron Zips hockey club has a new website for 2011-12, check it out at http://www.akronhockey.com/The season opener is on the 23rd at Youngstown State, with the home opener October 7 vs. West Virginia. All Home games are played at Center Ice Sports Complex 5319 Port Jackson Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44720 (phone 330 966-0169) $5.00 tickets are available to the general publicStudents are FREE with a valid Zip Card. The team lost only one senior after last year, and looks to build on their first run in Division 2 where they went 8-9-0 (6-1-7-0 in the TSCHL). The Dayton Flyers won the TSCHL's first title. This year the conference adds the Ohio Bobcats. The conference also includes Cincinnati, Dayton, Indiana Pa., Pittsburgh, Toledo, West Virginia, and Wright State. And of course, the Zips. Two more links to bookmark are The TSCHL Tri State Collegiate Hockey League and The ACHA American Collegiate Hockey AssociationIt's good hockey, and a good time. I'll try to keep the next home games in my signature throughout the season.(images stolen from http://akronsportsnow.com/)

Disagree wholeheartedly. There are not enough seats in nursing programs to fill the need already (good for me, bad for NEO) It's highly competitive to get into BSN programs, and AD programs who take anybody have 18-24 month waiting lists after you finish your prereq's. There aren't enough graduates to cover the retirees, let alone all of the expansion. The last thing we need is to combine those programs and further limit those graduates. There are few growth industries in NEO, and Nursing is one of them. I'm already being recruited and I have two semesters left. What would make more sense is dropping state funding of BS programs that have no need in society. Interesting idea. When you see CSU cancelling their baseball program, Can't State not sponsoring soccer, none sponsoring hockey, imagine what a combined budget could build...

Like that went any better. How they continue to find rookie coaches who are in over their heads, but still demand to be someone else too (GM, OC) is beyond me. And Akron Football has caught the Cleveland curse.

Stark State is expanding into Wayne County with an agreement with the Career Center. They're going to be granting four year degrees with the first two at WCSCC and the last two at SS. UA/Wayne College must have been asleep (or gloating over their expanding enrollment) while this was going on...

This aint Toledo's first Big Ten rodeo...Right DickRod?Purdon't?

That's great news!!! We know how hard it is to get good seats at the games. And the football team is going to be on ESPN3? I don't know if that's good or bad. We'll be able to watch the games. But, so will everybody else.

I see him coaching high school some day. Listening to his interviews, I think he's had enough of the corrupt filthy recruiting business in big time college football. He would be much happier in the corrupt filthy recruiting business of big time high school football.

She's better qualified to be Ak's AD than Wistrcill So Wistrcill is calling the plays for the Zips? woah that's cool Sorry that one went over your head. She can spot a lousy coach better than Uncle Tom can. Better?

It's a different approach than what we've had. Which is network shows, a scripted "soap opera" where you have one character you're suppose to "love" to hate (but very few do) and two other characters on the far right and far left. Until you get them by themselves, then the three sound much different. Then you have the Jim Rome wannabe's. Then the Steeler-fan who loves the Browns too, as long as the paycheck says Cleveland on it. A daily Browns show that's so monotonous you can't listen to it. And the grouchy old fart who's been doing this since Pete Franklin was on the air. This is more like what I heard in Philly and Pittsburgh on a road trip. FM quality, straight talk. Some of the hosts need to get settled into town, but I think it's a major improvement over the "characters" at KNR.

Hope they show that again sometime, I couldn't stay up.

I have no idea who "Hammer" is, but we have something in common, Go Zips! I hope that's the only thing...

STO is televising their MAC football preview tonight at 11:00.

I still thinks it's an abomination that WZIP doesn't broadcast @ least the football & men's b-ball games. Probably should broadcast men's soccer as well, since we are the #1 program in the entire nation. +1 WZIP has a better coverage area than 1350, better audio, and like you said, is free. Any advertising is profit. I bet they could do a lot more games then. Give the students a chance to call baseball games, for example, if that's what they want to do as a career. And the games could be picked up on an IPod or other tiny FM receiver when you're at the game, or not able to sit in front of an AM radio all day. Cars are coming out without CD players now, how long before they quit putting AM static boxes in? WZIP wanted to do UA games way back when they first started at little to no cost. The AD at the time not only refused to pay WZIP to cover games, but also expected them to cover their own costs for travel. Of course, they still wanted to get a large cut of the in-game advertisements. As for Carmen, he seems like a nice guy but if anything, he's a play-by-play guy. After his failed run hosting a show on 1350, I'm surprised he got this shot. Maybe he'll surprise though...it'd make for a cool story. His show on 1350 was doing good, he was able to get decent callers and had good conversation with them. I think Clearchannel either wanted to dump the expense of a local show, couldn't sell advertising for it, or both. As soon as Ken cleaned out his desk, CC had Fox network programming in that time slot. He seems to be a good fit with the rest of the WKRK talent. He already has a group of callers from his 1350 days, which the other guys haven't built yet. And has a lot of knowledge of Cleveland and NEOhio sports, which the new imports don't have yet.

They also broke the record for longest home winning streak in history tonight. Not a bad start on the season...

Pete was the best. As a kid I used to take my transistor AM radio to bed, with my ear phone plugged in my ear (so my parents couldn't hear it) and listen to Pete until he went off the air. Many times I'd wake up for school with the earphone still in...and the WWWE morning news playing. The callers were the best. A bunch of entertaining wing nuts. Pete had a great balance of real sports substance, coupled with entertainment. If callers were uninteresting, he hung up on them. If they were idiots, he hung up on them. Kids? Hang up. He had a great knack for what was really interesting, and what was worthless. You can do that when you're confident, have a great show, and aren't begging for listeners. No one hangs up on idiots anymore. That's why I don't listen to radio sports talk today. It's time has passed. This guy (Czabe) is a close to a listenable, knowledgeable, interesting sports talk host as I've found in the post-Pete era. Too bad he's no longer on the air locally. Czabe was alright. Spent too much time on non-sports stuff for my liking. But he's head and shoulders above Stephen A(hole) and Zack and Jack who replaced him. "YOU ARE LOOKING LIVE" Tony Bruno was the man until he took his show "entertainment". Peter Brown has been the best WKNR has had. I thought Rizzo would be the end-all, absed on his WHK shows, but the characters he has in there ruin it.

KC talked honestly about the Zips whenever someone called and talked about them. He might have piled on the football team, but come on, they deserved it. No more than anybody here gave them. Whether he continues that up there, probably depends on whether any Zips fans call him. Imagine that. He was a hell of a lot easier to call in to than anybody on KNR. He could hold a conversation, you didn't give your "take", get hung up on, and listen to the radio for the host's response. That's how sports talk is suppose to be. That's how you get good callers, not just "takes". And he didn't hang up on you if he disagreed with you. Or the first time you paused or "uh"ed like Hammerhead. When Pete Franklin built the industry, the characters were the callers. Today, the characters are the co-hosts, whether it's local (RBS, R&R, X's and O's) or network (M&M, DP, Rome to an extent). KC is old school. Unless the whole sports world has gone "Opie and Anthony" "Brian and Joe" "Rover and cast", he should blow KNR right off the air.

I've been following this story for awhile, the changeover of 92.3. FGreat pickup of Carmen, I liked his show. He had a good show with no gimicks, and good callers, something WKNR hasn't had in years. I look forward to hearing him on the radio again. I just wish that station came in better down here. Not that 850 or 1350 are much better...

I thought Can't State had to close their library. All the books have been colored in...
