  1. I go into every season with the expectation that Akron has to win the MAC Tournament to go to the dance. Until MAC teams make consecutive runs in the Tourney, at-large bids are a pipe dream.
  2. Amen to the announcers...good God. I can take homerism, but I can't take stupidity.
  3. Get a stop and a bucket, then foul. You actually thought we had a chance to stop them? Chris Wright abused us. Sure...it's Dayton, not Duke. I have confidence in our guys every play, every night.
  4. They swallowed the whistle quite a bit...except on Zeke lol
  5. Get a stop and a bucket, then foul. I'm not all that impressed with Dayton...decent team, but not as good as year's past. If Zeke had stayed out of foul trouble, we'd be 2-0.
  6. I'd be willing to bet that 0 of the players like Thunderstruck...and that matters. It also doesn't seem to pump the crowd up at all to me.
  7. Hopefully they'll be good ones...and if you know the people that make them and/or arena people, please tell them Thunderstruck is not a basketball song lol
  8. Seriously Akron? Thunderstruck (which is a football, not basketball song) again? I know...it's not that serious...but an intro does set the tone for the beginning of the game. The 2010-2011 edition is too long, boring, and lacks any kind of excitement. It's a pretty simple formula for a great intro: (Optional) Footage from landmarks around the city of Akron PLUS Memorable highlights (McNees' MAC Tourney Three, Zips winning the MAC Tourney, any dunk over Can't, etc) PLUS Music that pumps up the fans AND players (don't forget the players...I'm certain they didn't pick Thunderstruck) EQUALS Good Intro This one was pretty good...loved the music: Or if you're going to already copy the "Witness" thing, why not go with:
  9. Ranked teams on their schedules the last three years (not counting bowl games): 2010: 3 (maybe more by year's end) 2009: 3 2008: 5 Keep on Buckeye-hating though, it's doing UA a lot of good.
  10. Can't help dressing like the Village People? http://www.kentstatesports.com/sports/mbkb/2010-11/roster
  11. You know what, you can have your rivalry with Cleveland, it's all well and good. But LeLoser made an ass out of all of us. Not just Cleveland. To warm my old quote back up, Just because you're from Akron doesn't mean I have to like you. No offense, but did you even read my post? I was basically saying that there is no Akron-Cleveland rivalry, and that LeBron is a d-bag...we agree lol
  12. same professional sports market. Unfortunately. As unfortunate is the fact that we share a common tv market, which Cleveland controls, and has been using to piss on Akron for decades now. That's why it is so HUGE that LeBron drew the line in the sand between the two cities. We in Akron desperately need our own self-image. A self-image divorced from the old common assumption that Akron is simply Cleveland's little brother. LeBron's explicit comments that he is from Akron and not from Cleveland is HUGE for Akron's self-identity. Psychologically, this is indeed a very large, healthy and much needed step. Except that: 1) Most people don't think there's any kind of rift between Akron and Cleveland (because, except on the streets, there's not) 2) Most people in Akron enjoy going to Cleveland, and follow Cleveland's sports teams 3) LeBron's "drawing a line in the sand" got almost zero national or local attention, aside from a few stories the day he made his comments 4) Nobody looks at LeBron as a credible source on anything but basketball and being an egomaniac The commercial was a nice attempt by Nike, but anyone aware of James' actions this summer know he was begging for the same attention he's complaining about now. LeBron's going to need a lot more than trying to play the victim and attempts at humor to restore his image.
  13. He was definitely down. I guarantee you this much - had he actually gotten the ball to another Zip to avoid the safety, Can't would have challenged it. Absolutely mind-boggling that he didn't challenge it.
  14. I'm sure there's some of that going on. But I think for the most part (similar to the situation with the leader of our country) it's just that when you see someone failing, you'd rather see them replaced sooner rather than later. Akron is a D-1A program. We should NOT be a training camp for head coaches. For me, as with the leader of our country, I pray that these men succeed, all the while knowing that none of them will. For me, i'd only like to see them fail if it was real soon and it meant their firing. Other than that, i'm thinking exactly along the lines of GoZips....especially about the "leader of our country" thing. And just like the leader of our country, you need to give them time...it's unrealistic and short-sighted to expect either to turn their "projects" around right away.
  15. Spot on. As soon as he had it, he should have been ruled down. Did the Zips radio announcers mention it? He obviously tried pushing it out of the end zone, but that doesn't change that he had control of the ball with both knees down. Why wouldn't Ianello at least challenge that?????
  16. Is there a final yet? Or a place online to track the game?
  17. Shouldn't have skipped math class. You lose out on about $40,000 first off. Second, the reason the ACME-Zip game (please search it on here) went away is that the school was losing money and not sustaining a fan base after the game. Therefore it was pointless to do. Unless, of course, you factor in an average of $20 per person spent in food and/or parking at the stadium: $5 Tickets: $5 x 30,000 = $150,000 $20 x 30,000 = $600,000 Total = $750,000 $20 Tickets: $20 x 5,000 = $100,000 $20 x 5,000 = $100,000 Total = $200,000 $2 Tickets: $2 x 30,000 = $60,000 $20 x 30,000 = $600,000 Total = $660,000 And before you argue that not everyone will spend $20, remember that some people will spend much more, making an average of $20 per person pretty fair.
  18. I refuse to believe that there isn't a better option out there somewhere
  19. Career Numbers: XPA: 77 XPM: 73 FGA: 50 FGM: 34 Ouch. that's not too bad actually. 34 for 50 is pretty bad to me, especially since only 1 was 50+ yards.
  20. Career Numbers: XPA: 77 XPM: 73 FGA: 50 FGM: 34 Ouch.
  21. Looking ahead, is there any doubt that they'll be 0-5 heading into Can't?
  22. What an embarrassment... I hope to God they drop ticket prices for the remaining home games, or else it's going to be like Municipal Stadium in the 80's
  23. Pretty good analysis here. I definitely think Ken+ suffered more losses that us with personnel. The only thing that I think could persuade someone to pick us 4th is if they really felt that Conyers and McKnight were significant losses. And I hope that's not going to be the case. And I think we should get major points for having a returning All-Senior backcourt. Absolutely no chance of Akron finishing 4th in the East
  24. They can laugh all they want. Anything less than $18 is selling at a loss, and won't be made up through concessions or merchandise. They're killing themselves financially (even more than usual) in an attempt to keep within the NCAA attendance rules. huh? By your logic, selling at $54 will be 3x less of a loss! It really doesn't make sense if demand isn't there to sell at $54, and the same is true for $18. Example of reducing price to make more money below. It's called optimizing volume versus price. 4000 tickets at $18 yields $72,000 6500 tickets at $12 yields $78,000 By lowering prices significantly, you drew more fans and offset price with volume. Not only could you make more money, but you create a real event experience which increases future demand. You assume a demand for tickets. What if there are no more people who wanted to go to the game Saturday than those who showed up? Exactly. No more fans would have shown up even if we lowered the price to $5 a ticket. And Can't's pricing structure simply lowers the value of their product. If people pay $5 to see them, they see that it's worth less than a high school game, and so must not be as important as one or as exciting, or worth the trip. I fully disagree...I know six people personally who planned to attend then changed their mind when they saw the price...SIX! If I know that many alone, imagine how many total.
