  5. I'm sorry, but that might be one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. By letting every team in, you destroy the 4-month regular season in favor a couple week tournament. If the regular season wasn't meaningless enough, you want to reward bad teams with home court advantage? That certainly doesn't make any sense. I'm sorry. What are you not seeing here? That the elites continually rule college sports just because they can exclude everyone else? Say, aren't you one of the people that continually laments that Akron never schedules home games with the likes of Kentucky and UCONN? Or, are you among those who does not care that Akron is never able to climb on to the top tier? I'm seeing a system that would make it even harder for Akron to make the top tier and would destroy college basketball at the same time. Not to mention that it makes no logical sense.

  7. This isn't going to effect the MAC. I think you misread the article. The last four at-large teams will play each other for 11-12 seeds, while the last four automatic qualifiers will play each for 16 seeds. Neither of those will affect the MAC since we aren't getting at-large bids or 16-seeds.
  8. Yes, I can honestly say that Lebron has NOT helped us land any recruits. He has never recruited any one, to say that a kid decides to attend the University of Akron because Lebron grew up in Akron is complete stretch and nowhere close to reality. Kids choose Akron over other MAC schools because we have been one of the top teams in the MAC. and getting LBJ's gear a chance to meet the guy have him come to your games and play under one of his coaches wouldn't help at all? I'm not saying it was a huge swing but I could see it being the final little push for a kid on the fence College decisions don't come down to such minute details. They just don't. Lebron showing up, which he rarely did, KD, or the gear we wear are minute details. Other schools get Nike gear, so you'd be talking about two schools that are so close that an "LBJ23" patch is what makes the difference? Even at that, based on how long we have been wearing his gear, the only possible recruits that could have been potentially influenced do to his gear our the incoming freshman/recruits for this coming year.

  10. It's tough for me to complain about that call since Dials did get away with a travel before the foul. The refs blew two calls on that play.
  11. No idea when it will officially go out, but I have gotten word that we will be playing at Dayton on November 17th. No word on whether it is home/home or not. Anyone here anything else?
  12. Don't think we've necessarily lost Ennis yet at this point. Kid seems like he's had a good summer and there has been more attention on him lately. Sounds like he's just looking to see what other kind of opportunities may have opened up for him based on that. I guess you can't really blame him. Hopefully he finds his way back to Summit County Ohio. I'd be shocked if he re-commits. He's already been contacted by UNLV, Virginia, and Xavier, with likely more to follow. Seems he is looking to go to a higher profile school, and it looks he will have options.
  13. Wow, this thread took off in a whole new direction. Losing Ennis stinks, but I learned things could be a whole lot worse.
  14. Did I watch it? Absolutely. I watched it. Absolutely. Was it boring? Absolutely. It was boring. Absolutely.
  15. Dylan Ennis has decommited from Akron. Akron is still in the mix, but he wants to see what else is out there. http://twitter.com/BounceCanadaAAU/status/15584970451
  16. I don't know anything about Blanton, but I do know that there is nowhere close to the amount of talent in the JUCO ranks as there used to be with more and more kids going he prep route instead. Rivals doesn't include Blanton on their list of the Top 150 JUCO prospects, and a lot of those guys are haven't committed anywhere, or are headed to lower D1 schools. My guess is that he could have had an offer from some Low-major, but choose walk-on at Akron and play close to home.
  17. Dylan Ennis is now rated #86 overall in the 2011 class by Flagrant Fouls. Never heard of the site, but it is good recognition nonetheless. There is also a new video posted at the bottom of his profile. http://www.flagrantfouls.com/player-profil...ylan-ennis.html
  18. Having four players transfer out in one off-season is highly unusual for any program. I don't think we know the full story yet.
  19. Henry has verballed to VCU according to sources.
  20. Maybe we can get a transfer that actually played and had some production instead of these guys that barely played on bad teams. Walkons are one thing, but if KD is giving them a scholarship, what's up? I was thinking the same thing. Tough to get excited about either of them.
  21. It's the latter. They're really ramping up the recruiting ratings. They rate far more players than in the past. I would say they're even more thorough now than Scout and on par with Rivals. ESPN rankings are still a complete joke. Their "scouts" are very rarely out on the road at AAU events or high school games scouting these kids. Compare that to the Rivals/Scouts who are constantly on the road actually watching these kids play. I wouldn't put any faith in ESPN when it comes to recruiting. As for there being more 80s and 90s in '09 and '10, that has to do with ESPN changing their grading scale. A 70 in '08 would translate to a rating somewhere in the 80's with the new scale.
  22. 1) To show support for our star player 2) To show appreciation for him choosing The University of Akron - out of all of the places in the world - for his press conference. 3) To show appreciation for bringing every national media outlet to the JAR, which offers both Akron and UA incredible exposure. 4) To show appreciation for visually relating incredible success to Akron, The University of Akron, and Keith Dambrot. 5) Because in Cleveland and NE Ohio, it's very rare for us to have something/somebody so great in sports. We need to appreciate it while we have it, and look no further than the Cleveland Indians for a perfect example of that. Sorry, I'm just not buying LBJ is doing this for UofA. I'm also not buying it does anything for the BB program. If he really wanted to have a press conference going back to his roots, he would have it at St. V-M. He want's UofA because it provides a bigger arena for him to promote himself. I know a lot of you want to believe LBJ sits around thinking about this stuff all day long, but he actually has people think about these things for him. This is a marketing creation by the geniuses at Nike. A commercial won't be far behind. Does LeBron gain from this? Absolutely. But how often do you hear "Akron" numerous times on national television? How often does James A. Rhodes Arena and Akron, Ohio appear on every sports station in the United States like it will be tonight? Akron certainly gained a lot of positive exposure from this this. It's a win-win for everyone involved. Seems to me like you might be the biggest fan of LBJ...and that's fine. But to say Akron getting this exposure is a bad thing just doesn't make much sense to me. Oh, and he had last year's presser at St. V... Let's not be crazy here. The exposure Akron actually got from this was very minimal. Sure, it was nice to here UofA referenced, but in the big picture, it doesn't do anything for the bball program or the university.

  24. Rasor confirms. http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/zips/2010/04/g...mmits-to-akron/
  25. I love how I'm the only one who seems to do any research on these kids. This is about the only free article I can find about Justice's AAU exploits. In his return to AAU ball after a month off because of tendonitis he scores 18 in upset win for AAU team CBIZ over powerhouse All-Ohio Red (you remember them, the AAU team that features high-major recruits like Jared Sullinger, J.D. Weatherspoon, Adriean Payne, Stevie Taylor, Trey Burke and Traevon Jackson) at last years Bill Hensley's Memorial Run-n-Slam. http://www.jjhuddle.com/news/articles/2009...rial-run-n-slam I guess we shouldn't let little things like facts get in the way of blind hatred though. Slight correction in that they defeated the AOR 16u team, not the loaded AOR 17u team that featured Sullinger/Payne/Weatherspoon.
