  1. Getting word that Blake Justice, 6'3" SG from Peebles, Ohio, has committed to Akron today. I'm working to find a link to confirm this. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/re...e-Justice-97428 http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/...26season%3d2011
  2. Both teams/conferences in the play-in game are awarded 1 unit just like every other team in the tourney. The winner is also awarded a 2nd unit. I assume it will be the same for the additional play-in games.
  3. http://www.ohio.com/sports/91824649.html Very pleased to see that the 96-team idea seems to been thrown out the window. 68-teams is a good compromise.
  4. He'll have four years. Not sure on his academic background. As for the prep school, although you hear a lot of times about kids going there for one year after they graduate, they still operate as regular high schools. A place like Hargrave enrolls students from grades 7-12, but also takes in graduate kids in which they re-enroll them into 12th grade.
  5. Abreu will have four years here to develop just like any other high school kid. It's nonsense to think if he isn't the starting PG in year one that he is a wasted scholarship.
  6. Goodman said he confirmed all the names on the list with at least one of their coaches. Looks like all three are gone.
  7. "Jakarr Sampson says Xavier leads Cincinnati, Dayton, Kentucky, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Tennessee. At this point the Volunteers and Wildcats haven't offered." http://georgiatech.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1073478
  8. Auto bids will remain the same. One per conference given to the winner of the conference tourney. The regular season champion still gets nothing, but has a chance for an at-large. Well first nothing is set in stone, second most of the coaches (including Coach K) supports the idea as stated. Coaches opinions have nothing to do with the proposal. The powers at be have not even considered and will not consider giving conferences two auto bids. Keep in mind that the conferences already have the option of awarding the automatic bid to the regular season champ so the NCAA really doesn't have any reason to switch. It is important to note that the NCAA mandates for all sports tournaments that the number of at large teams be equal to or greater than the number automatic bids. If you give an auto bid to both the regular season and a tourney champion, that brings the total auto bids to 62 which won't work with a 96 team field. Conferences dictate who participates in their tourney's, so the regular season champ in that scenario would likely not even participate in conference tourney to ensure that the conference got two bids. It's just not going to happen. Where's that rule? The current system is 65 teams there are 33 conferences each receive at least one auto bid. It's in the NCAA bylaws. Also, currently there are 65 teams with 31 teams with auto bids (34 at-large).

  11. If they expand, it means a lot more money into the pockets of the power conferences. This is well thought out, and they know how much this benefits the BCS schools. Throw a little bone to some mid-majors, but at the end of the day, the BCS schools will receive a much greater benefit than mid-majors.
  12. Now that is one poorly constructed sentence. The 'Meister is gonna have a stroke! Lol Hahaha...I'm not even sure what I was originally thinking.
  13. He won't be able to transfer to another team in MAC if decides to transfer.
  14. It would be nice, but there is no chance that Guyn would come here. We've never been in the picture for him.
  15. Truck only averages two turnovers a game. If he averaged nine, he wouldn't be playing.
  16. How much, though. Something trivial like $5k per school? Can't's sweet 16 credits are set to expire and unless OU can win their next game it still means a reduction in NCAA money. About $125,000 per school per round. The payout from the Elite Eight run expired a couple years ago. But is that divided amongst all of the schools in the conference or is it what each school gets? If it is the former, VMD was not far off. Like I said, per school. Each unit (or game played) was only $222,206 last year per conference. Unless you are talking about the aggregate over the 5-year period, that isn't close to $125K per school
  17. There's nothing posted on him because Akron has no shot at landing him. The reason he de-committed from West Virginia was because schools like Kentucky, Kansas, etc. were calling him and he wanted to look around. He hasn't narrowed anything down, but this kid is going to BCS school. Also for future reference, just because Scout lists four schools it doesn't mean a recruit has actually narrowed it down to those four schools. That is rarely the case.
  18. LOL...Right. Duke deserved a 1-seed. Xavier probably deserved a 5-seed but only got a 6. But anyways, your talking about individual schools, and not conferences. The point is that these wins won't help MAC teams resumes come next March. The only way to do that is to win big OOC conference games in November-December. You know, if DJ and AB have another game or two like this one (AND the Akron game) there WILL be TV games on ESPN. All the networks care about is ratings, if they become big stars in the Dance they will have drawing power. That did happen with Wally in his last year. All the tourney games he was in were hyped big time. That could happen, but it doesn't mean anything for getting into next year's tourney. I also remember a kid named Stephen Curry that absolutely lit up the tourney, carrying Davidson to the Elite Eight. ESPN talked about him non-stop. The very next season ESPN carried multiple Davidson games and still talked about Curry non-stop. At the end of the year, Davidson failed to win their conference tourney and were left out of the tourney. Their past success didn't matter.

  20. Believe it or not, some of us have hopes of being more than a one-bid conference. What does it say if Ohio wins a game or two and K-ent goes deep in the NIT? These are all small steps toward recognition for the conference. Now we just need to develop an answer from Basset and Cooper. Humpty? D-Rob? Helloooo? Anyone home? Ohio winning will have no effect on the MAC getting multiple bids. Winning one game, you are correct. OU goes to the Sweet 16 and K-ENT goes to the semis and there IS an impact, and just maybe not always a one bid conference. To get at large bids you have to prove yours teams can win in the dance. You have to prove it in the OOC schedule. Previous tourney success means NOTHING. Until the MAC proves it in the OOC schedule and improves their RPI's, they aren't going to be getting at-large bids regardless of how many tourney runs they make.

  22. Neither the A10 nor the MVC are going to want anything to with a challenge with the MAC. Something might work with the Horizon since they are more comparable to the MAC.
  23. RPI is meaningless to getting selected for both BCS and non-BCS schools. You need quality wins (against Top-50 RPI) to get into the tourney.
  24. Sampson also has offers from Cincinnati, Michigan State, and Ohio State. He will likely get more at the end of the season.
  25. Just checked. The Pistons/Cavs game is on ESPN from 7-9 followed by the Hornets/Spurs game.
