NU is one of a handful of schools capable of incubating a new idea like this. The ironic side of this is that NU players tend to lean more toward the traditional student athlete model than other BCS schools. Real progress is made in the middle in the vacuum left by extremists.
Players bargain in the NFL seeking high salary and bonus in exchange for exclusivity and commitment. There are rumblings in the NFL and NBA about not being free (PC version) and being screwed by the system. A greater financial commitment on behalf of the university would demand concessions from players most likely in the form of stronger commitments. I am all for unionizing the players and giving them more money for their time. I just hope that they are prepared to bargain and understand that the majority of college football players have little if any leverage.

The problem with the minutes discussions include but are not limited to the fact that box scores can provide limited information of value. Either watch the game and gain observational/contextual data or employ some more sophisticated analytics. The constant and incessant box score rehash stinks. More information is needed and the binary win/loss game output data provides only a rudimentary and noisy read on how well the team is optimized.
I am a bit surprised to see NU Football valued at $154.5 million. We often see revenues reported by year. Wonder how unions would shift the college football balance sheets?

Northwestern is my BIG10 team of choice. I agree with the stated goals of the group and support the student athletes in accomplishing said goals. The problem lies with the puppet masters...aka big union and/or lobbyists. Somewhere in the shadows lurks an evil. Groups need a vehicle to gain a political advantage, money and/or power.
I personally feel that the poor attempt at an institution-sponsored student organization kills inclusivity. Just have a section and call it the student section. I was never a rowdy and didn't care to be associated with the group. Not that they are bad people, quite the opposite. I just wanted to root on the team and would have preferred the group to feel less contrived. I am all for rabid fandom as exhibited by the hardcore rowdies. Just feel like the name and group are not as inviting as "the student section". Give them a designated premium standing section w/o seats at the mid court!
Pure speculation on his performance level. I personally would enjoy the entertainment value of having him back on the team. That is after all why we watch the game...right? That'd be some goooood watchin.

I bet the ranking system would fail a validity test (MSA/Attribute Agreement/Repeatability & reliability). Seems like the Texas and California criteria are not being applied in the same manner.
Somewhere on a Grecian beach, DJ Cooper is lounging in his bikini dreaming of the days when the world was his oyster. Choosing between a career as a rap mogul and a quickly forgotten bobkitten punk must have been tough. I hope he was watching OU lose on the crappy washed-out internet stream remembering losing three to the Zips last year.
The zips can't afford to look past any MAC game. This team needs to learn how to show up consistently and play a complete game. Miami has played tough so far and they are a traditionally crappy statistical team. Wednesday will be fun.
Right now the Zips are not one of the best in he East. They may become a front runner but the current level of play puts them in the middle of the pack.
