Frenchy just said Noah is not anticipated to play, most probably out. A Jackson is his 'Player to Watch.'

You can say negative things. It's just that you only showed up on this site when the team was down. Other posters might be more open to your opinions if you stick around and/or post something positive.

*crickets* Not that there's much to talk about from the first half... General statement: I can't believe how Forsythe has turned into such a non-factor. Hard to replace Zeke, but it's hard to imagine Forsythe ever playing for WVU.

Reggie Witherspoon is no longer their coach, so we have a chance.

While Kretzer & McAdams both need to get better from 3-point land, I have been happy to see Kretzer start driving more often. He's been more awake on defense as well. Reggie has little value if he isn't shooting over 40%. Over the past few games, Betancourt has been a semi-competent passer & defender, but until he is a threat to score, the Zips are going to have trouble running a consistent offense. Is there any way he is on the team next year? Evans disappears after he makes his first pass. In Hawaii, he became a difference maker by taking the shot after a few passes. It seems he's too concerned about being a ball distributor to be effective at all. Tree is fine. He played well enough today, though Toledo never double-teamed him. Deji looked good but he continues to pick up quick fouls. Pat & Big Dawg aren't consistent offensive threats and when it goes bad with their shooting, their defense follows. This team is living & dying with Q. There's no way this team's sixth man should be the only diverse threat on offense.

He's had some nice assists. He still can't score / is error-prone, even against an inferior team.

Something new - we have to register with Mac sports

Just listen to the audio on 1350's website. It usually stays synced better anyway. -
Figured I'd start this thread so the South Carolina thread goes away faster...

This Season's Best MAC Basketball Players
zestycoyote replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
The author is a Zips fan, so I would say bias definitely isn't a factor. Ultimately, who cares? Basketball isn't an individual game. Tree & Q are both in the top 10. The Zips will be #1. -
Seems like a good question for the basketball forum.

I nominate this as one of ZipsNation's dumbest posts in 2013.

This Season's Best MAC Basketball Players

+1 I think Tree will move past McRea this season, but he has to prove it on the court first. McRea has been a great player on a consistently mediocre team. Tree has the chance to be a great player on a great team over the next two seasons. -

Pretty good announcers today for the UA-NIU game. I don't know if I've ever seen / listened to these guys before, but they definitely did their homework for both teams. I know that being objective / prepared is in their job descriptions, but this really could have turned into a Lynch lovefest.
-
Lynch isn't hitting his throws today. If UA can contain him on the ground, something they haven't ever done, there's a chance the Zips make this a nail-biter. At least I still want to watch the second half!

I'll preface my opinions with this statement: UA is playing the toughest part of their schedule right now, so these games aren't exactly the best for quick judgments. Michigan, ULL, BGSU, OU, and NIU is a killer stretch for a rebuilding team with no depth. Now on to the opinions... We're a pass first offense, so I want a RB1 that gets yards consistently. Connor Hundley gets his 4-5 yards every carry and works well in the screen game. I'd like to see him as the starter with Chisolm and DJ Jones sprinkled in (more Jones, Chisolm just doesn't fit in this offense). I don't see any glaring issues on defense, except they're out there too often. I'm not crazy about Rossi, but I'm not sure who's capable of replacing him at MLB. I'd like to see more CJ Mizell, regardless of how familiar he is with the playbook. The guy makes plays, where Rossi is pretty much just a run stopper that misses tackles. Jamel Turner looked good against JMU, but that's I-AA. Is he pretty much limited to backup status at this point due to his loss of athleticism?

Says that one worrying about someone else while imposing a rule on him... Lazy response.

I guess this guy was too small to play for West Virginia and be a first round pick for the St. Louis Rams. This true freshman has made some plays against competition he is supposedly too small to play against. Give him a couple more years before you rip him a new one. Also, regarding big, tall WRs, how has Andrew Pratt played compared to our little guy?

Yes, only college graduates should root for a particular college football team. The problem isn't the 10-year-old fans, it's the people that went to Akron, Ohio U, etc. that roots for OSU because they only cheer for a frontrunner. There's nothing admirable about a bandwagon fan. If you didn't go to college, root for a team in your area—spread the wealth. Pro teams have no relevance in this discussion. Pro teams are paid. People root for college teams because of school pride. Rooting for a fellow MAC team to upset a national title contender is a good thing. The more MAC teams win, the better it reflects on the entire conference. Nothing elitist about it—just root for a college team for which you have a basic affiliation.

Right. We shouldn't be trying to fool anybody unless it's with a fake punt. I know everybody is hating on Stein right now, but we were around the 35 on that failed QB punt. Let your kicker go for a field goal or have your punter punt. Absolutely nothing is gained by having your QB kick the ball, as it's likely a miscue (like today) or a touchback.
-
I didn't have a problem with the full house throw, but why on earth did Pohl try to throw it through two defenders? Hundley was wide open by the right pylon. I'm guessing Pohl can't make that throw (or worse, thinks he can't make that throw), which is troubling... If we're not going for it on 4th and goal with inches to go in the fourth quarter, we don't deserve to win. Now we get to watch the gassed defense get picked apart for the next 5 minutes. #BowdenBall
-
Hey, look what happens when you give Hundley the ball on 3rd and 2. Your get the first down and a few more!
-
Also, if we're going to punt on 4th and 3, we should push BGSU back more than 20 yards. Akron is playing to lose this game right now.
-
Agreed. Too many bubble screens (that never get more than 5 yards) on offense and still no QB spy on defense. BGSU's QB isn't killing us with his legs, but he has all day when he rolls out. Edit: Also, their RB is breaking tackles on every run. He's only 180 lb. C'mon.
