  1. At GP1: Great expansion of the questionable ethics. Also, notice how all discussion of Tressel revolves around his time as a coach. The guy isn't qualified for anything more than that. UA already has problem with how they're perceived when it comes to sports vs. academics. Introducing 'Tressel as president' into the equation makes insiders at the university seem even more out of touch with their primary goal: educating.
  2. I made several points against Tressel. He isn't qualified because of his lack of academic credentials and his lack of academic experience. That's not even touching on his questionable professional ethics. It's not a personal attack—if you really think Tressel is good candidate for a university president position, you're not intelligent enough, informed enough, or reasonable enough to enter the conversation. But please feel free to ignore rational comments in favor of a real response.
  3. Leave the 'breath of fresh air' and 'feel good story' on the football field. Someone that has been an actual academic knows more about running a university than a disgraced football coach. If we hire a coach (with no PhD) that has been employed in higher ed for less than a year as our next university president, it will be a national embarrassment. If you don't care what degrees someone has when you're talking about a university presidential hire, you aren't intelligent enough to take part in the conversation.
  4. Some places make it even easier than others. Let's just say UA's education classes may as well include naps and recess.
  5. I love how everyone supporting Tressel justifies his shot by saying he has a master's degree in education. For those that are unaware, getting a master's degree in education from UA isn't much more difficult than getting a high school degree. As long as you can pony up the $$$, that is.
  6. I'm not sure I'd call his play at PG last season fantastic... He's a decent emergency or big lineup option, but not as a regular. He's much better as a scorer when someone feeds him the ball in the paint.
  7. If UA hires Tressel as president, even on an interim basis, it will be a huge embarrassment for the university. You do NOT hire a person without a PhD for the head spot at a university. No exceptions, especially for a glorified football coach. I don't care how much money he can bring in. That's what fundraisers are for, not incredibly important hirings.
  8. If it's for pot, no he doesn't. He's screwed either way at this point.
  9. I don't think there's one person you point to and say, "Yeah, that guy put Shaka on the map." Shaka Smart made the most of his opportunity. Not every good coach comes from a coaching tree.
  10. Agreed. I don't think it counts if one of your former coaches takes a couple more stops in between and turns into one of the best coaches in the nation. Usually a coaching tree has the best coach at the beginning. Pitino, for instance.
  11. Anyone who thinks Bowden is on the hot seat after this upcoming season is crazy. I don't care if he wins 1 or 2 games—if you think this program was in a position to turn into a competitor within 2 season, you need to take a big step back. Ianello set back this program 10 years, an amazingly bad accomplishment, and it's going to take more than a couple years to catch Northern Illinois, Toledo, etc. (i.e. teams that have been playing good ball for a while).
  12. The exposure was cool, but I didn't think it was a particularly good dunk. Must have been a slow highlight day.
  13. I think he's referring to the weight, not the height. A strength and conditioning program can only do so much. It'd be nice if he was around 175-180.
  14. Takes time to build a winner. The Indians' moves this offseason is a step in the right direction. Don't bash a positive effort before any results are in. Meh. Why don't you just give up on sports? Or root for frontrunners like the Yankees, Patriots, etc. since that's what you seem to desperately want.
  15. Hmm. Terry Francona, Nick Swisher, Michael Bourn. In one offseason. All Cleveland professional teams are lame?
  16. If you walk the straight and narrow like a student-athlete should, you shouldn't need a second chance. Also: Insert speech about college athletes getting tons of scholarship money.
  17. Wow. You should take Women's Studies course at UA.
  18. Typical. I loved watching the team this season. The winning streak was awesome, as was our recovery from Abreu's suspension. That said, we had multiple players suspended (B. McKnight, anyone?) and failed to make any noise in the NCAA Tournament. We had four years to make an impact with a 7-footer that made us stand out from other mid-majors. I think the program will continue to rise, but any progress made with the 19-game winning streak and the tourney berth was lost by getting blown into unidentifiable pieces by VCU on a national stage and losing Zeke.
  19. He didn't have a great game, but it's because he isn't the one that was giving up the three-point shots. VCU played around him. He'll still be in the NBA in some form, for some amount of time.
  20. I don't think the negativity is about losing. It's about losing by just under 50 on a national stage. A young, depleted Zips team fulfilled the bad matchup predictions in the worst way. A series of unfortunate events.
  21. No matter how the game went tonight, we watched the last game ever for our three seniors. I want to wish all three the best of luck in all future endeavors. Looking forward to watching Zeke in the NBA.
  22. Bull. The only feelings Zips fans should be having about Shaka Smart are ones like, "Why isn't he our coach?" How do you think his relationship with Keith would be if in the post-game presser he said he tried to go easy on the Zips once they were up by 40? Blowout = blowout. No way to play nice in a game like this.
  23. Well, at least the Abreu thing didn't end up being a very big deal. That's kind of a positive, right? ...Right?
  24. Unless we come out with a big effort in the first 5 minutes in the second half, we're going to lose by 40. Sadly, I think Charles Barkley may have called it right when he said, "This game is O-V-E-R."
