Bulls vs Zips @ the Q - March 12th at 7:30
mes102 replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
If any changes should be made, it won't be KD. If anything, maybe get an assistant in here with an unbiased, fresh perspective with no extreme connection with KD that they won't speak their minds to KD on maybe changing things up. Problem is KD has to keep an open mind. Not sure if that's in his personality. But I am in no way saying KD should leave. Maybe Matta down at that school gets fired, Boals promoted, and takes a couple assistants from KD. We need a change. Women's team did that and they made it to back to back MAC title games with winning the 2nd one in 2014. -

Why don't we make some staff changes first? Sometimes stability creates complacency. I think that is the case here. Needs to bring someone in on his staff with a fresh perspective. Not someone that played for him and will agree with everything KD says. Glenn Box came to Akron and then they go to two straight MAC Championships with winning the 2nd one in 2014 for the Lady Zips. You can't tell me that an "outsider" (someone who didn't play for KD) wouldn't be good for this program. -
Arcade entrance next to Cavs team shop will have a booth for each school(CMU, EMU, UB, Akron). You can get GA tickets for $10.

As to the Women's quarterfinal games today. I went up to see the first two games. Apparently talking to people, Buffalo has had Ohio's number this year. Ohio was 16-2 in the MAC entering today, and both of those losses came to Buffalo. They couldn't fly up and down the court like they wanted to do in the past, their posts were matched up with even bigger post players from Buffalo. Buffalo had their PG, a wing, and a couple of their posts play VERY well today. This Buffalo team has only one senior, so they might be a team to look out for next season. As for the Zips, everything went through Anita Brown in the first half. Then, as the 2nd half continued, Toledo started playing a "Man-and-1" on Anita Brown. That slowed her down and it took a while for anyone else to take the shots or feel comfortable taking the shots. They eventually were able to adjust to it and get Anita the ball and others able to attack the basket. I would guess today they'll expect a little of that or a Box-and-1 from Buffalo with their height. I'm sure Coach Kest will be drilling in their heads today to not be afraid to take the shot. I think having the extra day rest after going to overtime while Buffalo was already recovering from their game, I think it helps us tremendously. Buffalo has similar post players to Toledo, but their guards aren't as athletic or "a threat" as Toledo's were yesterday. However, that doesn't mean they don't have any threats at the guard position. Their sophomore Australian point guard and a wing player that can shoot and drive will have to be contain, but I see us matching well in the guards comparison. Our posts have to play better if we want to guarantee a win Friday afternoon.

Bracket schedule updated. If tomorrow's Men's Quarterfinals are like today's Women's Quarterfinals, I may not have a beating heart. Going to be wild.

I will be up there tomorrow. Corner Alley won't be open when I get up there around 9-10am, but I'll walk around Downtown until 11:00 or so with the nice weather until I go watch #1 Ohio-#8 Buffalo and #4 Toledo-#5 Akron. Let me know if anyone else is able to head up there tomorrow. Wouldn't mind meeting a few fellow ZN.o posters.

CBS Sports Network's " Inside College Basketball" was talking about Indiana winning @ Iowa to win outright Big Ten Championship. Then, they dropped this on everyone: "Lose to Akron in a 4-13 matchup, and this Iowa win doesn't matter anymore obviously."

This is cool. Would love for us to be able to "vote" them through in the NCAA managers' tournament. http://www.kpisports.net/2016/02/15/manager-games-postseason-tournament-to-debut-in-march/ -

They even have bracketology for this... http://www.kpisports.net/2016/02/15/manager-games-postseason-tournament-bracketology/ -
Instead of doing one topic of this after every slate of games, I figured to start this thread and update it as the season progresses. Where is Josh? Didn't play at all in first half it seems, gave a spark with Big Dog on bench, and now not out there? Ankle bothering him or KD thinking long-term? Face it. These refs made this a free throw contest. We know how that usually goes.

Easy there. My guess is a lot of people on this board were there. I was there even though it's an 100-110 minutes round trip for me. I literally just got back home.

According to Joe Lunardi, we are the automatic bid from the MAC in bracketology now after beating Ball State. https://mobile.twitter.com/ESPNLunardi/status/693452004446703616
