Someone forwarded this to me and it's another great article on Darlington Nagbe along with some quotes from Porter, Klinsmann, and some words about Akron soccer program. nytimes.com/2015/11/29/sports/soccer/versatile-standout-finds-a-position-and-a-home-with-portland-timbers.html?ref=soccer It would be nice to see Caleb Porter, Darlington Nagbe, Michael Nanchoff, Ben Zemanski, Will Trapp, Chad Barson, and Ben Speas at the game vs Creighton on Saturday the day prior to their MLS Cup match in Columbus. Akron could make it a big deal by recognizing them at halftime. It could be an incredible marketing tool to have members of both teams of the MLS Cup at the Elite Eight game in Akron of people that were PART of Akron. I'm sure they would love it and maybe that would make it a close sellout. However, I'm not sure if that would be legal for NCAA regulations these days and whether or not it would be logistical for them to take the trip to Akron the night prior to the biggest MLS match of their lives.

UC-Santa Barbara advances to Sweet 16 after defeating South Carolina 1-0 to play #2 Clemson next week.

UC-Santa Barbara & South Carolina in a good one. 0-0 at end of regulation. UCSB dominating shots on goal, but can't finish...Here's the link: http://portal.stretchinternet.com/ucsb/portal.htm?eventId=252581&streamType=video

My expectations for this are what everyone hear has already stated. Huge hypothetical here, but if we beat Villanova, could this be the best weekend in Akron athletics history(i know...other than the soccer national championship)? Akron football goes bowl-eligible Akron men's basketball beats #11 Villanova Akron men's soccer beats Rutgers in 2nd round of NCAA tournament Even a men's soccer win and a close loss to Villanova, I would consider it a great Akron sports weekend!!!!

I will be at the game as well. My phone doesn't have the capability of streaming the audio for the basketball game(tracfone). One of the many struggles I have to tolerate to help pay my loans. I will be in Section 204 Row 11 Seat 20 & 21 for anyone from ZN.o that wants to say hello(and give me any basketball updates).

Caleb Porter Article 'Man on a Mission'

Wouldn't it be full circle for him to win the MLS Cup in Ohio? If Columbus Crew and Portland both win, Columbus will be the site of the MLS Cup. Would love to get tickets for it, but heard it's basically a sellout already. I'll just save that money for NCAA tournament games instead!!! -
Arkansas HC Mike Anderson recaps the Zips win over his squad: http://www.wholehogsports.com/videos/2015/nov/18/12197/

I feel bad for my hometown friend. None of his teammates look like they want to run the offense. He's taken three shots, all off of offensive rebounds or transition offense. As for our Zips, posts/forwards need to dominate the rest of this game. No excuses.
-
A little down that I couldn't be there in person tonight. Someone who I know from my hometown, is the starting point guard for Hiram(#10). He's looking good so far. Hopefully Hiram keeps this pressure on us for a while, so we get somewhat prepared for Arkansas.

They don't have the nickname "National Committee Against Akron" for nothing...

Good. I was going to go to both games, but something else came up yesterday that takes priority before I could go tonight. Might be easier for me to just catch it online. Thanks Dr. Z and AyYo.

Great Day to be a Zips Mens Soccer fan

I am excited to say that with my schedule conflicts which is hard to see weeknight games and even Saturday games, I will FINALLY be in attendance for tomorrow's MAC Championship game. EDIT: Should be a good crowd. Went to buy my ticket online, and could only find GA tickets. -
I thought that was only for the Can't state game? Akron is only radio broadcast to my knowledge. Hope I'm wrong.
-
Does UA have any tickets left for Saturday? Is it sold out? Just wondering if taking the 45-55 min trip to Akron for a ticket will be productive or a waste of time.

Lost 1-0 to Miami(OH) in the MAC Semifinals. Good building blocks put down this season. I expect big things from this young squad next season.
-
Congrats to the Lady Zips on taking down the #1 seed, Ball State, in PK's today. They will play #5 seed, Miami(OH), at Western Michigan on Friday, November 6th in the MAC Semifinals. The other semifinal is #2 Western Michigan hosting #3 Buffalo. In fact, of the 4 quarterfinal matchups, only the Western Michigan-Toledo one didn't go to PK's. Akron won 4-3, Miami won 4-3, and Buffalo won 3-1(WMU won in regulation, 3-0).

You guys are not mentioning the most obvious reason for the offensive struggles: PLAY ONE QUARTERBACK. All it does is kill the flow of your offense when you play a two quarterback system. I mentioned this last year with Pohl and Woodson, and TB is doing it again with Pohl and Chapman this time. Your o-line needs reps in practice blocking for the quarterback. When you basically have a two quarterback system, the o-line needs twice as many reps in practice to understand how to block each quarterback and that may not even be enough. Same with the wide receivers on how each quarterback throws the ball and where they normally throw it at(in front, outside shoulder/inside shoulder, etc). I feel that someone with the experience of Terry Bowden should understand that running a two quarterback system just will not work. The starting quarterback will be looking over his shoulder knowing that if he doesn't play well, he most likely will be coming out. That doesn't include the play call, picking up the blitz, adjusting the pass protection, calling hot route/audible(if TB and AJ allow it) which should be some of the things he's worried about while on the field. That school down I-71 has basically a "free pass" to try a two quarterback system without people complaining. However, he went with one quarterback. That way the team gets all the first team reps with just one QB, not two where it can get confusing for the o-line about who they're exactly blocking and where they like to be in the pocket along with many, many, other positive things with committing to just one quarterback. YSU scored 37 points on this "best defense we'll see all season" in Week 1. There is no excuse for only scoring 7 points, no matter the weather conditions. You have to be prepared for it. I wasn't expecting 37 points against Pitt, but I expected anywhere between 20 to 28 points. I've come to the conclusion that I expect too much from this staff that KNOWS we can't fire them anytime soon, so they feel safe and are taking their time messing with situations that don't really need to be messed with right now.

A lot to work on, but I still like the solid start to the season for the Lady Zips. You'll have some bumps in the road when playing a different style with new coaching staff teaching "incumbent" student-athletes is never an easy task. I think this team will fight for the MAC East title and should make the MAC tournament. However, I won't go as far as expecting them to win the MAC title(until next year).

Lady Zips lost to Cornell, 2-0. Three non-conference games to go, with the next one a week from today at home vs Pittsburgh @ 1:00pm.
-
Lady Zips down 0-1 at the half. Cornell looks solid. Best team on our schedule so far. Having a hard time getting any combinations without disrupting pressure from them. It's a battle of unbeaten teams, and hopefully we can get a goal in the 2nd half to tie this up at 1-1.
