  1. If I had to predict YSU -> McFadden CSU -> Ford Miami -> Groce or Christian
  2. https://mobile.twitter.com/Ryan27WKBN/status/840653824033509376?ref_src=twsrc^tfw https://mobile.twitter.com/Ryan27WKBN/status/840654023330017280?ref_src=twsrc^tfw EDIT: My mind is blanking right now how to change the links to show the actual tweet(I blame the time change). If one of the moderators, want to change it, that woul be great. I tried going to "insert other media" and it wouldn't let me send it that way. For those that wish to not click on it, it basically says YSU has serious interest in McFadden and that YSU attended the Akron MAC Semifinal game and that the interest is mutual. The tweets are via 27 WKBN sports reporter, a Youngstown news channel.
  3. YSU may be thinking long term. Instead of hiring Ford, who would probably jump somewhere else in 3-4 yrs, maybe they feel since McFadden has been in Northeast Ohio practically his entire life, that it would be Dambrot-type hire where McFadden may decide to never leave YSU and be the "Dambrot of YSU." I think that may intrigue them to go with McFadden than someone like Ford.
  4. McFadden grew up in Youngstown area. I think it would be Ford as best candidate on paper, but if McFadden wants the job, I think he'll be their first choice.
  5. Youngstown news channel mentioned four names as "early favorites" to be contacted to gauge interest in the HC job. Billy Donlan - Former Wright State coach Geno Ford - Former Kent coach Mike Fuline - Mount Union head coach Rick McFadden - Akron assistant coach
  6. Very sad news I met him a few times, but never knew him on a personal level. One of the conversations we had was when there was a Mens soccer conference tournament game at home on the same night that the Lady Zips had a big basketball game at Dayton. I was getting updates from the game, and giving them to people, and he asked for a score update and said "I'm surprised you aren't there." I told him "I'm a college student, it's not in my budget to go outside of Akron this early in the season." There were times at Lady Zip games where he would be a couple rows behind me, and I had to change my seat(for those that don't go to those games, the seats are all GA) at halftime because he was yelling so loud, I couldn't hear the coaching staffs. As a high school coach, I like sitting behind the benches to get a perspective of what college coaches are doing during the games and see what I can learn and establish into my coaching style at the high school level. So instead of asking him to quiet down, I moved to a different seat. He wasn't being rude, he was just being passionate about Akron Zips athletics, and I wasn't going to try and extinguish any of that. Our methods may be different, but we all want what's best for Akron athletics. His passion cannot be questioned, and this is a huge loss for our fan base. All that means is the rest of us have to pick it up a little bit. That's the best way to continue the passion that Fred had for this university. Tiffany, your family and friends will be in my thoughts and prayers. It's going to be hard to imagine this MAC tournament without seeing him there in the stands.
  7. EMU over NIU WMU over Miami Toledo over BG CMU over KSU I know it's a bit off topic, but I hope Youngstown State wins the horizon league tournament. Would make our loss look a little more tolerable on the resume that our three non-conference losses were to NCAA tournament teams.
  8. The fact that Beilein spoke just before Dambrot at Nike Coaches Clinic could have been either a nice coincidence, or they discussed this in between the two sessions. People closer to the program can probably say more about this, but I think the Coaches Clinic played a part of Michigan coming to scrimmage us at the JAR.
  9. This team just hasn't seem the same since that California trip...
  10. Archie Miller spoke about his shooting program tonight at the Nike Basketball Clinic at Cuyahoga Heights H.S. He had Brian Walsh there as his demonstrator. I believe Brian put up around 300 shots in the 30-40 min workout he did and Archie Miller condensed it since it was one of his coaches and not a player. Well done tonight, BW.
  11. I am going to the Nike Championship Basketball Clinic at Cuyahoga Heights this upcoming weekend. Dambrot will be a speaker. His session is 7:45pm-9:00pm Saturday night titled "Special Situations, Out-Of-Bounds Plays, and Late Game Situations." Here are some of the other speakers that will be in Cleveland this weekend: Tom Billeter, Augustana(SD) College(DII NCAA Champs) Mike Moran, John Carroll John Beilein, Michigan Archie Miller, Dayton Ben Jacobson, Northern Iowa Jim Boeheim, Syracuse Jay Wright, Villanova
  12. Yes, but the audio was well over a minute ahead of the video...
  13. looks like Newcastle United is the winner, reportedly for 6.6 million transfer fee. http://www.espnfc.us/story/2935543/deandre-yedlin-arrives-in-newcastle-ahead-of-reported-move-from-tottenham
  14. Especially when you have a brother or a cousin playing high school football and you have to decide between going to their game Friday night, or traveling an hour to go see Akron soccer? For this Friday, I'm choosing #10 Georgetown @ #2 Akron over going to my relative's home football opener. Plus, I officiate high school soccer so most other nights, I have a game to officiate and can't make it to the Zips soccer games. For example, I had to officiate on the opening night of high school soccer last Friday night(Friday Futbol sponsored by Columbus Crew/OHSAA), so I missed the Michigan-Akron exhibition match. If it's one day a week, it's much more tolerable to set time in one day off to the side to go watch them. Plus, this could be college soccer's way of making sure those that have a chance to play at the next level, are mentally and physically prepared as best as they can for the long MLS season. And by the way, that's the only downside I see to this. And that's how MLS approaches it's rookies. They get drafted in January and then start the season playing matches in March/April, correct? So how will this work when MLS teams are drafting after their season already started, or still in January but have to wait until May or June to get their rookies on roster.
  15. Welcome to ZipsNation!!!! Like others said on here, ton of respect for Appalachian State. We have VMI, Wisconsin, and Marshall before Appalachian State. So if it seems like we aren't talking about ASU that much, it's because we're trying to not look ahead. At least that's where my head is at at the moment. As for relatives in Minerva, my high school alma mater is in the same conference as Minerva. My alma mater is playing at Minerva this season. I was hoping September 23rd so that if you were there, I would love to introduce myself and then hype up the game the following day. However, they're at Minerva on September 16th so it looks like it didn't align for that. Seeing the reaction all over this state when you went to Ann Arbor and won, was just incredible. When we had Michigan on the ropes up there a few seasons ago, you can see in their faces that they were thinking "oh no...not again", but we were one play too short(and a few referee calls too, but that's a different story). Hope you guys have a great season except for when you play us. Have a safe trip if you do make it up.

  17. Great fit. They need depth on that D-line.
  18. Congrats to JB on being drafted!!!!! Went back and forth waiting to here what the NFL Network and ESPN guys had to say about him. Mike Mayock and Todd McShay LOVES him. Todd McShay said he believes this could be one of the steals of this draft. Loved him since he put the tape in, and knew he would go in the mid round. Mike Mayock said the only difference he sees between Deion Jones(who went in 2nd round at #52 from LSU to the Falcons) and Jatavius Brown is one played in the SEC and the other played in the MAC. So excited for you JB and I know you'll represent yourself, your family, and the Akron Zip family well. Congrats, and best of luck in San Diego!
  19. Right, I told a few people that if it's anything less than 10, I will be complaining as long as Darlington is sidelined. Anything less than 2, and MLS loses all respect for me and I will be an irritant to the MLS office.
  20. Heartbreaking for Darlington tonight. Hope it's not anything too serious. De Jong needs to be suspended a substantial amount of matches. Disgusting and uncalled for.
  21. I have them on DVR. Will check post later once I get the chance to watch them.
  22. According to bracket, we're hosting Bucknell on Thursday. Winner plays Michigan-Wright State winner.
  23. That's why I'm torn between keeping this staff in tact or let one go for a higher position. Maybe like one with Shaka or Boals. That way we just get a fresh perspective that might keep this program from plateauing or make that jump for the program a little quicker.
  24. 5 seed or 6 seed in NIT. Typical NCAA treatment of MAC.
