Right now i agree with you. At the moment, I feel Toledo, CMU, and Miami(OH) are better. However, people said Cincinnati was better than Akron too People said Michigan was better than Akron a few years ago, but by the post-game press conference by the Michigan coach, we saw what that outcome was on that day.

To me, basketball is basketball. It's my most passionate sport, so maybe that's why I don't understand how people prefer one over the other. But I guess people still have the prejudging of female athletics still, which I guess is understandable since we aren't too far away from the beginning of Title IX, but still...just seems like I'm the only "true" basketball fanatic...

Yeah...this is what I thought...No one wants to talk about the positives in Akron athletics...all people want to talk about is the negative...go ahead, but I'm done with the negativity...I'm going to support the teams that are going in the right direction, and also the teams that aren't. HOWEVER, the difference is I will talk about the teams going in the right direction, instead of the teams going in the wrong direction. It's easy to coach from your computer chair, but when things go right, I give kudos to where it is deserving, and the women's basketball team deserves that...

Here's the Cincinnati highlights:

And that team is the women's basketball team. Everyone is getting frustrating about the men's basketball team, so why not support the team that is producing wins and decent basketball? The women's team is 8-2, and here is their schedule/results on who they've played so far: v Hiram W, 83-24 @ Tennessee Tech W, 78-67 v Bryant W, 78-56 @ St. Francis(PA) L, 73-74 @ Providence W, 81-78 @ St. Peter's W, 103-57 v Canisius W, 81-72 @ George Mason W, 65-49 v Wright State L, 71-73 v Cincinnati W, 67-54 They've had two hiccups against St. Francis(PA) and Wright State. Their only two losses are by a combined 3 points. They host a top 25 team in Dayton(#17) tuesday night at 5:30 in the JAR. Everyone should come and support the team in their quest for the MAC title and a high seed in the NCAA tournament...

seriously? You're going to compare men's and women's basketball records?!?!?!?! You really amaze me. Almost every post I see from you is pessimistic. Comparing women's basketball record to men's basketball record is like comparing cars to buses. It's not the same. You're underrating the women's program, who will have their best season in program history, and then you berate the men's program, who has dealt with a lot of adversity, and will have a very good season. I'm starting to think you're just an OSUcks fan that occasionally posts on here to bash on akron athletics. Only reason I say that is because I haven't seen one positive post out of you in a long time.

Every chance you can take a shot at Dambrot, you do. It's quite sad to be honest. Just because you have a blog, doesn't mean you know more than the current coaches. I even recall you saying one time at a tailgate you knew more about what soccer decisions need to be made than Porter during 2011 season. Anyways, We win that game if we made more intelligent basketball decisions on the court. Dambrot can't make those decisions for the players, as he's not playing on the court. I really don't understand why KD is getting so much heat for that OOB play. It's all about execution. You could have the best X's and O's coach in the world, but if your players don't execute at all, it doesn't matter. With no Treadwell or Harney, and our two bigs picking up 5 quick fouls in the first few minutes of the game, I feel Dambrot coached one of his best games of his career to be honest. It was just basketball instinct/decision-making down the stretch that hurt us...Even with the amount of shots and layups we missed. At full strength and/or an average shooting day, we win this game by 20... It will get better...People may laugh at me at the moment, but I believe if this team develops like they should, we'll be right in the middle of March Madness...

I have moved on. All I was doing was replying to someone saying that he was bragging Akron basketball to co-workers in September, and probably before that as well. Which on paper then, we were looking good for a major season... That's all i meant by if we had all three... It will be a successful season for Akron basketball in general. Women's basketball off to a great start at 2-0, and wouldn't be surprised if both Akron teams have #1 seeds going into MAC tourney...
-
Also, not saying that Chauncey doesn't deserve to play. I just think you have to know what players can handle pressure situations and certain scenarios better than others. I just feel Gilliam isn't one of those players right now... Today definitely showed how we miss Diggs, Harney, and Treadwell. People say they have been bragging about Akron basketball since September. YOU SHOULD. We had those 3 players, we'd be 3-0 right now and looking Tennessee and most likely NC State right in the eye... It's a small step backwards now, but just win the MAC, and the team will be very polished by March Madness...Look for a VCU/George Mason type run if this team gets polished by March like they should...
-
Listen, if this was a one time thing, I wouldn't be singling out just Chauncey, but there was numerous games last year and then today, that he made not so smart decisions down the stretch in situations that we were winning and trying to close out games.
-
How crucial does that Zeke free throw miss look now on that "And one" free throw attempt after that great up and under post move?
-
People have bad shooting days. It happens...especially at beginning of season...but knowing the score, and knowing what you absolutely should and shouldn't do will cost you games.
-
Just to clarify my previous post, we're up 65-61 with a little over a minute left. Abreu passes it to Chauncey wide open in the corner. He had no one on him within several feet. He should of drove baseline and tried to draw a foul. Instead, he shoots a three, which isn't his strength compared to slashing, and OK State went on fast break and made a three. Zeke then fouls out, and then next defensive possession, Chauncey fouls the shooter who makes 3 free throws...all within 30 SECONDS...
-
If we had Quincy, Tree, or Harney in this game AND the CCU game, we're looking at 3-0 right now IMHO, Chauncey cost us the game today...

Oklahoma State seems to be on the same "hype scale" as Mississippi State was last year...Let's hope it has the same result...

My high school alma mater's basketball program has a saying on the back of all their shirts, hoodies, etc. There was one year, where the saying on the back of the material was: Respect is Earned, NOT Given Let's stop asking for respect, and just grab it by the stronghold. THEN, we may start getting some respect. Win some HUGE non-conference games(and not have any let-down games), then the respect will come. When we beat Mississippi State last year, people took notice... Until we lost the following weekend to Duquesne and Valparaiso... -
Which that was a consistent problem with Pfau's teams...Croft haven't really had time to implement all his stuff in(especially in the preseason stuff)
-
I thought they would be better with this with Croft. I like him, and I think it's a tough spot for him as he just got here in the spring, as one of Pfau's assistants became head coach at Corpus & Christi, and then Pfau left....so Croft is a head coach of a team that he didn't even know 250 days ago, and a coaching staff he had to put together... I thought this might of been better for the program, since it might be a refresher for the program, but Croft has decided to get a lot of younger players playing time and starting time instead of the veteran players, which is hurting us in results. Might be better for the program's future, but not the program's present. Still have conflicting thoughts about Croft...

Where is the best place to take a recruit to eat after a home game?

Women's soccer has a game tonight vs Northern Illinois, in which they're trying to break the MAC attendance record of 2,800 for women's soccer. Then, they also have a home game sunday vs Toledo... -
Just added another to my block list... This is the most optimistic most of us Zips fans have been in a few years, and we have people posting here talking about other MAC schools and trying to take a jab at us. Seems like they may be a little nervous when it comes time for them to play us....

After last night, I think we can finally burn this thread away

I had a lot of fun watching last night. The only part that sickened me, is that people that didn't watch the game, will see the final score, and think Tennessee blew us out, and we scored some garbage points to make it look somewhat close... If DW didn't throw that INT on 1st possession of 2nd half, the outcome could of been different...momentum just changed from there on...
-
I can't stand this negativity...I'll get back on this site tomorrow...Later everyone Tonight has been the most fun I've had watching Akron Football since the home opener in 2009 vs Morgan State...
