just a little wishful thinking on my part

This is getting interesting real quick.... However, whoever is our coach, whether it's Jon Gruden or Joe Shmoe, I'll give them time to see what they can do. This is what i need to see: Year 1: The first 6 games, I need to see progress from game to game. Doesn't have to be enormous progress, but at least getting better each and every day and game. The second half of the season, at least get 1-2 MAC wins. Year 2: Win a couple OOC games and be competitive for all four quarters in the other OOC games. Then, I expect 3-5 wins in the MAC. Year 3: I expect to finish in the top 5 or 6 of the MAC, and contend for a MAC East title possibly. Year 4: Contend for MAC Championship. This may be a little far fetched, but I feel that if we see the improvement in year 1 and year 2, I could care less what the coach's name or pedigree is...

With what I heard (don't put too much into what im going to say), it's looking more and more like Winters is NOT coming here. I wonder if ZachTheZip bribed him away from here... ... ... ...

Top Goalkeeper in the country commits to Akron
mes102 replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Could the amount of top players in this particular class we're getting, be in effect to the previous national championship appearances, or the fact that Coach Porter is the U-23 coach for the Olympics? Or a little bit of both? -
I saw they have a poll up, that asks "What Zips sport did you attend at least one game of in 2011?" It has Football, Soccer(men's and women's), Basketball(men's and women's), Baseball, Softball, Women's Tennis, Rifle, and many others as options. It says to check for all that apply. I think it will be interesting to see what people went to other than soccer in 2011... Here's the link

worst offensive output I've seen from a Purple Raider team in years...growing up 10-15 minutes from UMU gave me opportunities to see them a lot in years' past...

Paul Winters Doesn't Want to Win at Akron

I'll be okay with Winters or Narduzzi... -
This is Game 7 of the DIII National Championship....Mount Union and Wisconsin-Whitewater have met in the title game for seven straight years now...each have won 3 national titles in the past 6 years...this will be the Game 7...

The problem is that if opponents' start seeing us playing a zone, they're going to start playing faster tempo to try and attack us before we have a chance to get into our zone....which if we're not back fast enough, and Zeke is, he could pick up some fouls there...

My junior year in high school, I got to see them up close. They played at my alma mater(West Branch) in 07-08 season, and we should of won that game against Jackson. But that's a topic on high school forum, not here... Egner was the one that stood out to me there. At that time, there was rumors that Duke was looking at one, and UNC was looking at the other... Apparently they didn't get the performance UNC and Duke were looking for to improve over their high school career... I'm hoping they(Egner more obviously) do finish out their college careers like their high school careers where they just had opportunities and executed well...

Of the supposed "finalists"... Who's your choice
mes102 replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Monday baby! Sunday as well... eguins, you just proved to me that you don't read the threads here...all you do is post without actually reading...We already discussed the Narduzzi article in the Vindicator... Also, Mark is a supposed "finalist". We have no idea if he actually is or not. TW is keeping this so hush hush that we don't know if any of these 4 names are even going to get the job... -

Maybe he was talking about Norm Chow? -
I'm REAL surprised. Simply amazing. I wasn't too far off..Not surprised he stayed in OSU like I said above, but what I said people should be surprised about, is that he's probably going to keep his head coaching salary without having to have much responsibility with only being the playcaller on defense partially(heard Withers and him were going to split it). Now, things have seemed to possibly change just a little. I figured he may only be a position coach, which would surprised me and thought many people were going to be surprised too, but apparently, i was off by a lot on this one. Oh well...I'll take the heat this time

Mike Stoops or Mark Stoops? Because I originally heard Mike Stoops, who was fired from Arizona. Now I'm hearing Mark Stoops. who is the Florida State defensive coordinator. Am I the only one lost here?
-
Exactly...and the reason for it, is because as a coach, you don't want to hire someone that you don't know and can't trust. IF you hire someone you know and can trust, then you know you won't get backstabbed in the process......

St. John's was the only team that Mississippi State didn't play out of the four at the Garden, so it's nice to see one of our opponents we already beat, finally get that 4th team to lose to a team that lost to Akron...FINALLY

Here's the point I'm trying to make: Our women's team is playing an ACC opponent(ranked 30th in the country right now) at the JAR. Men's basketball is playing arguably one of our arch-rivals in Cleveland State at the Wolstein Center. It's poor scheduling in my opinion. If Wistrcill and the rest of the assistant directors were smart, they would of changed the time of the Florida State game to 7:00pm so that people wanting to go to both games, could go to both games. Just out of curiosity, how many people would go to Cleveland State game in afternoon, and then the Florida State game that night if the Lady Zips game got changed to the evening? Just wondering how much money UA could lose there with the scheduling mistake... I never was trying to compare both teams as in performance on the court. Because women's basketball is very different from men's basketball in tempo/speed of the game. What I was trying to do is see how many people would still go to Cleveland to watch the game even if the Lady Zips were playing very well and our men's team was not. I just wonder what this forum would be like right now if the men's team had a four game winning streak with scoring total points of 97, 85, 84, and 87...Hopefully the men's team starts clicking this saturday... But seriously, you can mark this down as another little mistake Wistrcill has made while being at Akron...this is just a minor one, but still losing UA money...

I agree. Love men's college basketball too. The last line in my first post in this thread was geared towards the younger generation. I couldn't believe how much I've heard of that mentality this year from students. I'm aware the majority of ZN.o posters are not in the younger generation percentile

Just don't understand about it though. It's still the sport of basketball. And the Lady Zips are playing the style most of you would love to see the men's team play. Let me ask this question: IF the Lady Zips game was moved to later on in the day(say 7:00pm tipoff), would you go see the Lady Zips after the Akron-Cleveland State game in the afternoon?
