To elaborate on the post I posted on here about 10 minutes ago(last post on page 10), I really think it could be a possibility. Just so everyone doesn't have to go back to it, one of my sources said this: "If Tressel comes to Akron, _____ ______ will be coming to Akron as part of his staff as well." He asked me to leave the name out, so I'm not going to say it now. However, it is one of the candidates that have been mentioned already. So we have Tressel for a year or two just for publicity, and he may not coach much during that stretch because of the "show-cause". In case of Tressel hiring, sales go up, tickets go up, and everything else goes up for the football program in numbers and revenue. Tressel leaves after a couple years, and this person on his staff takes over. When this person takes over, people will forget his name from recent endeavors, and the program will be in decent shape when he takes over as in recruiting and running the program. This is how I took it from my source. Hopefully, this is not the way my source was hoping I would interpret it without them telling me. I guess only time will tell...

I do dream of something bigger for the University. I think there are a lot of guys we could go after who could get us there and I don't understand why everyone thinks the Tressel/OSU shortcut is the only way to be successful. We need to look at various possibilities and find the right person. This jumping on the USS Tressel doesn't smell right to me and I think it might be bad for him and us in the long run. EDIT. Sorry, I didn't answer your original question. Here is why his suspension is a problem even if it is for half a season. Headline 1..."Akron Hires Tressel". Headline 2 (one week after headline 1)..."NCAA Suspension Cloud Over Tressel". Headline 3 (one week after Headline 2)...."NCAA Still Undecided on Tressel's Fate". Headline 4 (one week after Headline 3)...."NCAA Suspends Tressel Six Games"....OR...."NCAA Suspends Tressel Full Season". Headline 5 (one week before season)..."Tresselless Zips Take Field Against BCS Team X". Headlines 6-10...same as Headline 5 with minor changes. Headline 11...assuming he only gets six games...."Zips Try to Right Ship After 0-6 Start or 1-5 Start" Am I really being negative when I write this stuff, or is there so much potential negativity to step in it makes the writing easy? There is a lot of really short term negativity to hiring Tressel that could lead to more of the same for Zips football. If Tressel gets suspended for an entire season, what would the coaching staff look like? Who would be the head coach? Basically, hiring Tressel would allow him to name the head coach for potentially an entire season....Do we really want that? How much are we willing to pay Tressel to do nothing when we are already paying another coach to do nothing? I heard that if Tressel does come to Akron, a certain coach will follow him. And if Tressel does get suspended, he could be the head coach during that time. I promised my source I wouldn't tell anyone(they pleaded to me not to), so I won't say it right now; however, the person has been mentioned a few times of being a possible candidate....

FootballScoop.com reports that Mike Stoops will most likely be the Ohio State defensive coordinator for Urban Meyer. Also, There was also a report on there saying that Akron IS targeting Jim Tressel...

Remember that the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association was asking coaches to wear a white dress shirt and tie in honor of what Jim Tressel has done for the state of Ohio...they proposed this to the coaches AFTER he resigned...If he gets hired here, that in-state recruiting just became a hot bed, dog fight with Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer recruiting everywhere in the state of Ohio...

A close friend to me, who does NOT make stuff up like this, told me that Jim Tressel WAS on campus a few weeks ago...

UC-Irvine loses to St. Mary's(CA) 2-1 in double overtime...they will play unseeded Brown...looks like NCAA has a lot of work to do tomorrow...New Mexico came back and beat Duke 2-1 in overtime...

I think the way it works, is that if it's two unseeded teams playing each other in Sweet 16 or Elite Eight, you have to place a bid to host, and then the NCAA chooses from there. I'm sure NCAA will pick us as they have to be drooling at the money they would be getting from us hosting an NCAA tournament game again. But yet again, wouldn't surprise me if we're on the road sunday at Charlotte...

I agree. But that's why I would of loved to beat them in the Elite Eight. We all know the boys would of been ready for that one. They knew they let that regular season game slip away...wouldn't let it happen again...

I checked their 'message board' to see if any of their comments became more educated, but they continue to call Akron a physical team and plan to 'pass us to death.'
