During last night's broadcast, did anyone catch what Dino Babers calls tempo? The 12th man. I totally agree and I don't know why every head coach in FBS hasn't seen the light. Can you imagine if Alabama jettisoned Lane Kiffin and installed Dino as the OC? With the way they recruit they would score 100 points a game.

All the losing has made this board so effin' uptight. This forum used to be a place where you could go vent some steam without it turning into a pissing contest & people used to have a sense of humor with each other around here.

Someone needs to be sarcastic since Zipmeister isn't around anymore.

Oh, yeah. I am aware of their resume. That's why I expected a lot more from them. Using the eyeball test, they certainly didn't appear to be the team that I had anticipated. Judging them by their resume, I expected them to beat the Zips by 4 scores. Seriously. We talked about it in the parking lot before the game and after watching a couple of series I came to the conclusion that they were a middling team and the Zips had a real shot. But, I can see your point and yes, I agree, the Zips are a half a notch below Central. You think the Zips are almost "pretty good" and I think the Zips are almost "mediocre". We are discussing shades of gray. I think the only mark that could be on the dial between the two is "not bad". The bad thing is we are talking about hypotheticals. The Zips lost. As far as the players and coaches being more tired of losing than we are. . .wow, if so, they must be the most beat-down, bushed, depleted, dog-tired, done in, drained, exhausted, fatigued, frazzled, outta gas, pooped, ready to drop, run-down, sapped, spent, burned out, tuckered out, washed-out, wiped-out, worn-out, zonked-out, whipped, wasted, weary, sick & tired of being sick & tired group of people in the country.

Central lost to Western. That is the only other time I watched the Chipps play. Their record is 5-4. I'll wager that some time in your life you have referred to a 5-4 team as mediocre. I was expecting more from them than what I saw. I saw an average team via my two eyeballs that the Zips could have beaten with some offensive production. The defense certainly played well enough to win. I don't think I really said anything outrageous in the statement I made that you responded to. I, like you, am trying to balance caring about the Zips with candidly assessing them. The things that drive me crazy about watching the Zips right now are things like lining up offsides, wasting time outs because we don't know what we are doing, 12 men on the field, personal fouls, poor clock management and the like. If these were eliminated, there would be a good chance the Zips win vs. Ohio and Central in spite of the lack of offensive production. The Zips would be 5-3 and I would feel a whole lot more warm and fuzzy

Not a chance. The Zips should win this game going away. Not exactly sure why you want to make a bet with me when I said Vegas made a blunder favoring the Minutemen. Who would put money on possibly the worst team in FBS and give points? Seems like a no-brainer bet the house on the Zips, but I don't gamble.

Vegas turning a blind eye to progress. They are going to lose their ass on this blunder.

A ZN member will revive the thread after it lays dormant for 2 months and then a ZN member will suggest that the player should be starting, again. A ZN member will argue that it doesn't matter who starts, and that player provides a spark off the bench, again. He will probably cite some sixth man of the year stat, again. Another ZN member will argue that if that player starts, he would score more points to help the team, again. Another ZN member will argue that even if he starts he isn't going to get anymore minutes, again.

Been a while since anyone updated this thread. Some good beer showed up in Lot 9 Saturday. Platform Esther was totally legit. Something different in a Christmas beer. DIPA from Dayton Beer Company. Excellent. Ermal's from Warped Wing, also out of Dayton. We even had some DIPA from L.A. brought back from a Zips Tailgater business trip. All were delicious. Thanks to those who allowed me to sample. Zips fans sure do share the wealth. There have also been some fantastic homebrews showing up on game days. I have sampled 2 different DIPAs, Saison, Oatmeal Milk Stout, Hefeweizen, to name a few that were very high quality. Lastly, if anyone is interested in a road trip to a brewery, Hoof Hearted in Marengo is worth a drive. Fun place.

I saw ZG01 referred to Bowden as Tater Tot on another thread. I did not realize that was his southern nickname. I did a Google search on Bowden Tater Tot and found some interesting reading.* *For entertainment purposes only

Thank you for a straight answer, LZ. I just wondered if this rumor was true. I wasn't asking anyone to abandon their faith.
-
I am asking if the play by play guy and the color commentator had a conversation about Bowden. Simple question to anyone who watched the game.
-
Anybody watch UCF vs. Cincinnati? I saw a post on Facebook that the commentators discussed Terry Bowden as a legitimate candidate for the HC job at Central Florida. Can anyone confirm or deny?
-
Campus police made their rounds in Lot 9 shortly after kickoff. Reportedly, tailgaters were told to enter the stadium or leave. I witnessed the officers walking down to the lot as I was entering. Tailgating during the game has been prohibited, according to GoZips.com, since the opening of Infocision but this is the first I have heard of any attempt of enforcement.

Statistically true, but who stood out on their offense? I saw no one. I know Rush is supposedly one of the best qbs in the league but he looked extraordinarily average to me. Disappointing to see the Zips lose such a winnable game.
-
I expected Central to be better. They are a very average, mediocre MAC squad. Opportunity lost for a W.

A friend of mine sent me this link today with the question "Where do you think Akron stands on these 4 key issues?" What do you think? http://m.niuhuskies.com/m/genrel/102015aac.html

That is very well done. Kinda put a lump in my throat. -
Each arguing side in this debate is pretty entrenched in their viewpoint. Neither side has been able to get anyone to change their mind. There are also a lot of football fans and former active posters that are staying silent right now. I guess the jury is still out for them or they hold views they don't want to make part of the public record. I am pretty tired of the arguing. It's like listening to people argue about politics or religion. There have been good points brought up by Kool-aid kids and Drano chuggers alike. Good points based on facts. These good points are being dismissed out of hand by the other side. I'm guilty of this and if you're really honest with yourself, you probably are too. We are all Zips fans and we all want to win. Some of us are more patient than others. Some of us have run out of patience. It was said by someone back in the summertime when all the negative press was happening that we all needed some good news to make us feel better and some of us were hoping for the breakthrough season in football to salve our wounded pride. I know I was. As CK has written in the past, I feel like Lucy just jerked that football away again.

So tons of reps in the offense (in practice) was the key? Not trying to fight with you Doc. I consider you to be a friend. Mediocrity is no substitute for success no matter how many excuses are offered. I can't swallow that. If our coach was named Harvey Finkelstein there would be more people than just me, ZG01 & Lee Adams raising concerns. Way more. Terry shouldn't be immune from criticism just because his last name is Bowden. Agree?
-
Johnson is having incredible success but I definitely wouldn't go as far as to say he is incredible.BG has better offensive talent than Akron does. I will give you that. You are absolutely correct. Why is that? Akron definitely has better defensive talent than BG does. Would you agree? Offensive talent (although not incredible) with a dynamite scheme thrashed what was sold as THE BEST ZIPS DEFENSE OF ALL TIME.
-
I don't buy that, Doc. In 2012, we went from a pro style offense to the Air Raid, jettisoned both former starting quarterbacks and had immediate success with a 1-AA QB who had never started before. In 2012 we were smooth and everybody appeared to be on the same page. As a matter of fact, I remember being amazed how well the offense ran that year.

I would think it was a coaching decision.
