It's like the chicken and the egg. UA will never feel the need to build a new arena because attendance is mostly embarrassing. Fans aren't going to the games because the arena sucks. This team is so good right now, they deserve both a respectable place to play and a decent turnout from fans. If we want people around NE Ohio, fans, students and even recruits to take the Zips seriously something needs to be done. It's long overdue. There's no reason that schools like Northern Kentucky and JMU can build fantastic new arenas and we can't. Even Duquesne put $45m into renovating their place for KD. While I think that solution is nearsighted and just polishing a turd, it's better than nothing. By the time something actually happens Groce will be long gone and who knows what the state of Zips basketball will be when that happens.

As much as I wanted Duquesne to go winless in the A10, I knew they would fall a#$ backwards into a win eventually.

Good win for the Zips and the crowd looked decent on TV. I'm not sure if Boals and Bobcats believe they committed a foul all game with the way they were complaining.

In football that would have been a 15 yard penalty. The guy jumped on top of him. Freeman is lucky he didn't get seriously injured.

I'll never forget him hitting that 3 and skipping his way down the court like an idiot as they went to a commercial break. Kent was still losing at the time, he didn't score another point the rest of the game and only finished with 6.

Did anyone else catch Dawson going over to calm down Groce after the second awful technical foul call? It's not often you see a player stepping up like. Most of the times it's coach that needs to calm down a player and help them control their emotions. But to see a young college kid do that is some next level maturity.

Two of the worst T's I've ever seen. It's a rivalry game with cockiness on both sides. Let the kids celebrate. Nothing crossed the line.

Holding the (self proclaimed) best player in the MAC to 6 points is so impressive! Go Zips!

Did they just call a technical foul for celebrating? I've literally never seen that.

Payton and crowd going nuts because he cherry picked a block only for Freeman to follow it up with two blocks of his own. Man I hate Payton so much. This is great.

Love the intensity on defense. Absolutely smothering Kent and wearing them down. Keep it up Zips!

I'm usually not a fan of teams wearing black unless it's part of their color scheme, but these are fine for a game or two. They still feel like they "fit" with the rest of the uniforms the Zips wear. Unlike Kent who has like 4 different uniforms that are all atrocious and have no consistent branding direction.

I wonder if Jacob Corrigan is still acting like a little b$&#@ on Twitter while trying to pick fights with Akron fans...

What a shame. The funniest part is it looks like there's more Dayton fans there than Duquesne fans. Sure the Zips crowds aren't great, but we're never outnumbered by opposing fans at home.

I enjoy this very much. Also they just dropped to 0-3 in A10. Really hate to see it.

I live out of state and have to buy everything online. It's sad that the only places that I can ever find decent Akron Zips gear online is Homage, 47 brand and ebay if I want anything name brand. Surprisingly I've gotten several nice quarter zips on there for around $30 each and a game worn football jersey for $50. I'm assuming a lot of the nice stuff on there is team issued apparel that never got used. Fanatics is a joke and the campus bookstore site is run by Fanatics so it's all the same stuff. The online monopoly they have created really doesn't help.

Pulling a UConn would be a dream. Join the Big East in every sport except football and just figure out somewhere for them to play. Getting out of the MAC would definitely draw in more interest. But that's never going to happen. Nobody cares about the MAC and it shows. Personally when I was at UA and knew the Zips would be playing someone like Balls, BG or a directional Michigan school I knew nobody was going to be at the game and none of my friends would be interested in going. We only went if there was literally nothing else going on that night. The ONLY time people actually cared is if we were playing Kent or Ohio. The only reason any people tune into the weekday "MACtion" football games is because there's literally no other football being played on Tuesdays/Wednesdays. Yet the stands are always empty regardless, for every school. I've never once watched a MAC football or basketball game on TV unless the Zips are playing.

This is just it. Students can get in for free and how many do? If someone cares enough about going to a game, they'll go regardless of a few bucks. Same goes with start times and weather. If you really care, you'll find a way to make it happen. People in NE Ohio only care about Cleveland sports and the Buckeyes. To them, Akron sports are on the same level as high schools. They don't appreciate what it's like to have a successful D-1 program right in town. The JAR is a dumb and a major problem. But that problem is never going away unless people start showing that they care.

Down the stretch every shot inside the paint they'd say "Jihad misses and no foul." Like they couldn't wrap their heads around the fact that a guy can shoot the ball and actually miss, or get blocked without being fouled. At one point during the game they also mentioned how Ball State and Akron had been two of the top teams in the MAC for a long time. That seemed odd to me so I looked it up. Since 2000 they've had like 6 winning seasons.

Did Nate even hit the ball on purpose? It looked like he dunked and the momentum just sort of knocked the ball into the crowd. That foul on Tribble when he got tackled from behind was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. The fact that the announcers didn't even question half the calls against the Zips and Balls fans are whining blows my mind.

I went the opposite way when the Zips took a lead earlier in the second half. I think my $5 donation to FanDuel was the main reason we won.

I could do without the constant gushing over Jihad, but they are homers so it's to be expected. The one guy sounds like he's trying to do his best Michael Reghi impression.
