  1. Brandon Weeden beat Luck and RG3 (in College) Colt McCoy beat Tom Brady and Drew Brees (in the NFL) Just saying...
  2. Down 16-5 right now. Zips came to play tonight!!
  3. If he wins the MAC championship in 2014 or 2015 he's gone. It's very unlikely the Zips would be that good, but can't say it's a guarantee he will stay until he retires.
  4. Not to get off track and make this a "Browns thread" but I feel that they've been in the "lose small" phase for a long time. For most of the games the past two years they have had leads in the second half, only to blow it. The defense may have talent, but they don't make stops when they need to. Specifically on 3rd down and late in the 4th quarter. I mean, they gave up a hail mary touchdown on 3rd and long against the Bears. Good defenses don't do that! I don't think the Browns try to hit a homerun by drafting a QB, because they never make the "exciting" pick. They never get the Cam Newton, RG3, Luck, Russell Wilson type QB's. They try to overthink the position and get a steal. Guys like Frye, Quinn, McCoy, and Weeden. Right now I put Bortles in that same group. He may win some games but he'll never be the reason a team wins the Superbowl.
  5. I just think guys like Jim Tressel want to be on the sidelines. We've seen it before, even with Terry Bowden. Eventually they get that "itch" back and want to return to what they love doing. He cannot coach for 5 years. He can stay until that runs out, but then will leave for a big coaching gig. That's the main reason I don't think he'd take the president job permanently. Wouldn't make much sense to name a guy President if he'll only be around for 2-3 years. Both Tressel and Bowden know that there's better places to be than Akron. We're not going to be in any BCS bowls or polishing that crystal ball anytime soon. Best we can do is hope they make the most of their time at UA and make our school better.
  6. I'm just sick and tired of watching awful Browns QB's year after year. I don't have much faith they will ever find a good one, but I can at least get excited about guys like Manziel and Bridgewater. They are exciting to watch and have big-play ability. More than can be said about Bortles and Carr.
  7. I think the refs need to let these teams play. Way too many fouls being called. Neither team is going to get into rhythm that way... With style of basketball we play, I say the constant stoppages in play put us at a disadvantage.
  8. Most mocks have Cleveland taking Bortles or Derek Carr at #7. Both would be awful and probably not even worth a high 1st round pick. So very typical Browns draft picks!
  9. Probably an overreaction, but at 15-15 it seemed like the Zips were sleepwalking. Something happens every season. Luckily they stepped up and went on a huge run we knew they were capable of.
  10. We should be blowing this team out of the gym. We are being embarrassed right now by one of the worst teams in D1. So sick of seeing unmotivated Zips basketball teams.
  11. Last year we lost to Coastal Carolina and Detroit. We can lose to any team...
  12. Zips had a decent first half. Evans is especially playing very well. Streaming service seems like very good quality. Although my internet connection isn't the best so I spend more time waiting for it to buffer. Getting a bit annoyed by Al Pawlowski, but that seems to happen with most biased opposing announcers.
  13. "Strategic" sounds more like it will be a financial or marketing announcement, so nothing too exciting. Honestly, I think if it were anything major we probably would have heard about it already.
  14. 3 game winning streak and won 4 of 5. I'd say that's an improvement, especially after the past 3 seasons. Thank you Cleveland Browns and Can't State Golden Flashes...the Zips have just become the best football team in NE Ohio! Keep Bowden around and keep building that defense. Good things will happen.
  15. Thankfully Kentucky was able to win. I just can't root for mid-majors/upsets anymore. Maybe it's selfish of me but it's just frustrating seeing it happen for every school except us. We NEVER get the upset. We come close occasionally, but it is yet to happen. Not sure how many more times I can sit around and watch Butlers, VCUs, and George Masons make the final four. Or MAC rivals make the sweet16 and elite8. Honestly when is it our time?!
  16. Can we go a season without drama. Seriously it got old a long time ago.
  17. Yes unlike the other Akron team, the FOOTBALL team actually won on Sunday. It wasn't pretty but it was a win.
  18. It's okay at least Akron has a good soccer team....the sport no one else in country cares about. KD's teams have been losing to mediocre teams every year. I guess it's my own fault for thinking that maybe we'd actually start the season strong. But like always the only games that will truly matter are at the Q.
  19. Textbook early season basketball from the Zips. Just ugly all around.
  20. So is MTSU shooting 100% this half? Ironic since the dumba** announcers felt the need to make a sarcastic comment about Akron not missing a shot.
  21. Yeah, if MTSU scores expect to miss the Zips next possession.
  22. The Zips suffer from slow starts every year. So even if MTSU has lost players it's still going to be a tough game.
  23. Wow the Zips don't want to win this game.
  24. Remember when the Zips football team almost beat Michigan? Everyone said we would feast on the MAC after that. ZipsNation.org, The unofficial web home of overly optimistic Akron Zips fans.
  25. Black uniforms don't work for Akron. Our colors are blue and gold. I get that black is technically a neutral color, but it's so overused in sports and doesn't look good at all on the Zips.
