  1. We already have an Ohio U joker present, only a penguin could make this thread better. But he's probably too busy celebrating another "amazing" win over a team that is in the dumps.
  2. Do we know about TV for next weeks game yet? Gozips doesn't say anything about ESPN3
  3. A few things contributed to the lopsided loss. Turnovers, the defense's inability to make a stop, and missed opportunities. Williams had a few good passes that were dropped, but also had a few that were a bit off target. Those mistakes along with the fumbles can hopefully be fixed. My real concern is the defense. A good offense means nothing if you can't keep the opposing team off the board. I don't think we can beat FIU, after watching them last year at least. On the bright side I'm hoping our coaches can fix mistakes from the first game, and gameplan for FIU. Watching Oregon's offense right now shows what a good offensive mind can do when given the right players. Can Bowden make that happen in Akron? I don't know, but an offense that exciting will put people in the stands.
  4. I also enjoyed that win, but unlike the Ohio U fans I didn't make it out to be more than it was. As a side note, Youngstown State is going to beat Pitt. Same scenario really, Pitt has been in the dumps lately. Kinda glad we didn't get Chryst.
  5. Syracuse was 3-9 that season.
  6. Syracuse was a big program at one point too, winning a National Championship in '59. Guess our win from a few years back was pretty epic! Name alone doesn't constitute a big win. Just because a team was successful in the past, doesn't mean they still are. On a side note, I just saw that OU fans are talking about making a BCS game this year. Talk about dumb, it's not even statistically possible with their schedule. Why they would even be thinking that is beyond me. They are one of the best in the MAC, but that's all...
  7. Beat a team that has lost everything? wow that's something to be proud of Ohio U fans.
  8. Sportscenter was just showing a video montage for the start of the college football season. Started out talking about new coaches, big name coaches...and along with the names of Meyer, Weis, Leech and...Bowden!
  9. The only real preseason game even worth watching is the 3rd. Although still meaningless, you can see a good glimpse of the starters. Most will be sitting tonight, so I just don't see how someone would rather stay home an watch that.
  10. Dining dollars? It counts as food right?
  11. Looks like there are 8-9 games aired on ESPN3, ours being one of them. If I had to guess, I'd say they pick up one of the other 7:30 games so it doesn't mess too much with scheduling. Either UMass vs UConn, or McNees State vs. Middle Tennessee.
  12. My question is, why sign a 10-year contract if you're only going to leave after a few years?
  13. Well look at Coach K. He coached the US Men's Basketball team, even though he has never coached at the pro level. My point is, one you become a legend as a coach it doesn't matter what level you are at. Obviously international soccer is much different than basketball, but he could choose a similar path. I feel like I'd rather have someone coaching the US team that has a resume of possibly multiple National Championships as opposed to an MLS head coach who may never win an MLS Cup. It all comes down to, does he want to become a legend at Akron and build a dynasty or be "just another coach" at the pro level. There is too much uncertainty pursuing a career at the pro level especially since he's already part of something special at UA. At this point I think he leaves. But unlike our other sports, being one of the premier programs in the country will help us land a top coach. Probably not someone who cares as much about Akron, but hopefully someone who can win...
  14. Like This Photo! If the receive 500+ they will unveil the intro video sometime prior to the game on Thursday. Only need 50 more already
  15. But are they really promoting UofA? If there is a school out there called "East High Kangaroos" using our logos, people will see their gear and think of "East High". It will be in their colors, have their names, etc. If someone looks at their gear, and automatically thinks "Akron Zips" they obviously already know about us, and thus wouldn't be someone we need to promote to. A high school using our logos might not cost us money, but it's even more unlikely it will earn us money.
  16. Terry Bowden hasn't had a losing season since 1989. While he did start 1-5 in 1998, he stepped down before finishing the season and it's safe to say there were "outside" factors contributing. In his first years at each school he was a combined 34-10 record... ...but this is Akron. We are a very unlucky school, in the most unlucky sports region in the world. I don't think even the best coach in the country could turn us into a winner right away. But I do think Terry can win us more than 2 games.
  17. High Schools all over the country have used recolored professional/college logos for decades. It sometimes causes problems, but usually gets overlooked. Could be because the bigger organizations don't care, or because it's way too common to take down every school. I have a friend that worked at a printing company and said daily they'd see dozens of projects come in, for highschools, that had ripoff logos. As far as the Kangaroo, I don't really see it as a problem. The logo is different enough, I can't see UA going after a HS because they chose to use a kangaroo. If they used the slogan "Fear The Roo" I can definitely see a trademark issue. But look at it this way how many different ways can you make a kangaroo logo?
  18. If we're guessing Price Is Right style...my guess is 1 Bob
  19. Yes, there are a few different suits. Really don't think it would be tough to find someone to wear one of them. It's not like the suits go on "strike" too, they are owned by UA.
  20. Less than 20k Unless you're the Browns, teams in NE Ohio need to win before people show up. To me it's not that we're "fair-weather" fans, but rather fed up and frustrated fans. We still root for our teams, just tired of watching poor performances. (Typing this as I watch the Indians lose another game)
  21. I don't agree with what he did, but do think his punishment was a bit harsh. It seems like more of a domestic violence case than anything else, which should have resulted in probation.
  22. We've actually only changed uniforms twice since the new logos were introduced in 2002. We had the Ram's ripoffs, and now the more modern design. Most schools, even the small ones, change about every 2-3 years. Nowadays with the Oregon-Maryland-Oklahoma State's of the world, it's even more common.
  23. It would be a good rumor to start if we were to say that only 5000 were left. Create some buzz... Do we know how accurate Ticketmaster is? Because if you zoom in you can actually see dots showing the seats available. If it's accurate I actually don't see many reserved seats left. Maybe a few hundred? And over $100 for Club seats? that's a bit much
  24. It really doesn't matter what day or time. If the game sold out, somebody somewhere within the Athletic Department would know about it immediately. Also I agree we would have definitely gotten a warning that only a few thousand remained. Especially for people like me who have yet to purchase tickets. Unless someone this evening at 10 decided to buy 20,000 tickets for himself haha. But like I said, I'm not denying it. It just seems very, very unlikely. I remember when the first game at InfoCision sold out, I believe a week before we got a warning or something like that. Definitely not almost two weeks before.
