I can not confirm or deny, just say that don't take anything you read on facebook/twitter as fact. Usually with sellouts, in the past, GoZips.com is very quick to release a statement. We also would hear about the bracelets for student attendance. I just think there would be more "reports" if something like this were to happen and I'm really not expecting more than 20k...

The asymmetrical helmets are pretty ugly. But I think the metallic gold numbers a cool. Wouldn't mind seeing the Zips wear a jersey similar to that, just switch the fonts around.

I think you mixed it up. The Akron Pros won the first NFL championship, the Wingfoots never played in the NBA but did win the first NBL title. When the NBL and BBA merged to create the NBA, the wingfoots were left out. Having said that, I've been a supporter of the name "Pros" from the start because of the tradition behind it. Although it really isn't a name that lends itself to exciting branding. It would have to be more traditional logos, uniforms, helmets, etc.

Was he the same idiot that "ranked" the MAC stadiums a few years ago? I remember an article where someone had Akron at like 3rd, behind CMU and Toledo I believe. I couldn't believe it. We have a stadium nicer than dozens of BCS schools, and easily the nicest in the MAC. All of the rest are glorified high school fields.

Didn't Katie Bubna transfer a few years ago? Last I saw she was with IUP, after she hadn't gotten much playing time with the Zips.

Yeah there's no way we can stack up to the Urban Meyer and Luke Finkel led team for Columbus. I love how fans of the Red and Grey used to talk about how overrated he was at Florida and only won because of Tebow. Now he's in Columbus and he's the best coach of all time! woooo!

I know people hate Cleveland-Akron comparisons. But Cleveland's main 3 sports franchises have had 17 different coaches combined since 1999. And that's not including interim coaches. Browns have had 6, Cavs 7, and Indians 4. Talk about stability in Northeast Ohio!

How is Turner any different than people like Bradon Weeden who waited until they're like 24-25 to play college football? It happens all the time, when an athlete tries a sport like baseball, doesn't work out and then plays football instead. I'm sure if Turner went to a big school he'd have no problem getting 4 years of eligiblity, especially if he never saw the field at any school other than Akron.

Well there's no chance we could sign someone like him. Can he transfer to a FBS school without sitting out if he gets kicked off the team? If so I could see him landing at another BCS school.

I hope this move backfires and Illinois is terrible for the next two years. Couldn't stand him at OU and him ditching them for money just shows the kind of person he is.

Zeke plays better against centers close to his height. So wouldn't we want this guy to play??

Sorry for bringing up this old thread again. But, it looks like they will be wearing the same JD/RI uniforms this season. This past week they were shooting the intro videos at the stadium and the photos showed players in the usual uniforms. Not that it's really important, but I'm kind of disappointed. I understand that we aren't exactly swimming in cash but you'd think UA would want to do everything we could to forget the past 3 years... I would say if Akron were a bigger school we'd have a better chance of the NCAA helping out, but being a midmajor I think it's unlikely he'll get to play next season. Like others have said, they had no problem helping Pitt out.

Well I think anyone can help. Back to the penalties, this is no more than a slap on the wrist. I feel like an athletics-wide problem should receive very, very serious penalties. I'm not sure this will hurt them too much, especially not enough to lose to us.

What are they going to report about in athens? the leaves changing colors, farmlands for sale, tumbleweed reports? yawn.

KD should try to recruit some players from the bball team, mainly Keith Clanton mentioned in the article. A 6-9 senior who averaged 14+ points and 8 boards a game?

Situations like this should never be taken lightly. Probably/hopefully just some kid who was angry at the time and just needed to vent.

I used to live in Erie and Gannon is a decent D2 school, member of the PSAC. They made a nice run a few year back and I believe they were close to the final 4. Jodi Kest actually coached their women's team before being hired by UA. Similar to the commuter school UA used to be, just about 1/5 the size. You really don't get a sense of being on campus, just seemed like a few buildings mixed in with normal downtown businesses. Small gym that seats about 3000, but are usually one of the top 1-2 teams in the conference as far as attendance.
