Yeah it doesn’t seem like it, but was probably some desperation his first year here with the late start.

Took a charge too!

Class of '23 Offers & Verbal Commits

Morris just announced his commitment on twitter. Do we think his recruitment was limited by his off the field incident, is he a developmental project, or a little of both? It looks like his only other D1 (FCS) offer was to Incarnate Word. There doesn't seem to be much out there on him in terms of recruiting profile even. -
A lot to digest here, but thanks a lot @catdaddyp! Kent State and WMU lost a lot of talent, with 7 and 6 guys going up to P5 respectively. Though Kent has also hit the portal hard.

Unsure who this might be, but looks like another OL incoming. Hoping for a transfer. -
Players who transferred from last year, Where are they now?

That’s too bad. I saw his stats the other day and they aren’t good. Can’t imagine he thinks his decision was worth it right about now. Wonder if he’d want to come back as a grad transfer. -

Amankwaa committed to Rutgers. -
Not to mention, 2021 was his first year in the program. Prior to that he was in JUCO. Definitely the opportunity to correct the little things in 2023. He has the tools.

Pretty decent signee out of HS that never foudn a way to get in the field. Don’t recall if injuries were an issue in his first two years or not, but don’t believe they were this year. -

We have at least 2 early enrollee freshman. -
Another solid game for Hunter! He seems to be letting the game come to him more rather than forcing. Bass for CMU is kind of a punk. This team also isn't very good. Not sure how they beat Michigan.
-
Yeah, Kent or Toledo are probably the favorite in my eyes until we play them to see where we stand, but the reality is while Kent has 3 very "good" OOC losses, they didn't beat anyone to warrant any hype. They deserve credit for their start in MAC play too, but that isn't anything not seen before.

I'm a big believer of bowl or bust as well going forward, though any improvement in the W/L is welcomed after what we watched the past few seasons. Breaking down position groups from last year to this year so far: QB - same or better - banking on Irons improvement RB - better with the addition of Lingard. Lost no contributor. WR - similar or a little worse, with the loss of Shocky (and Grimes). Though Golden, Dakota Thomas, and Gathings have a lot of potential I think. OL - thus far worse. No transfer portal players brought in yet and a couple depth guys transferred out. If not addressed, we're banking heavily on current starters improving and and/or a few redshirt freshman which is a little risky. TE - same or better with all contributors returning. DL - I would say worse with the loss of Morton, Jones, and Harper. We've brought in Jones and Rabash. Neither have played at this level and Rabash was D2. No real young guys had a chance to show much this year. LB - same or better. Lost Boateng, but McCoy, Fish, and Griffin are exciting players who will continue to develop. CB - same or better. Lost Hooks, added Hunter. S - same or better. Lost nobody (not counting JKP as he was injured most of year). I like the trio of Woods, Thompson, and Martin. I think our weaknesses going into the offseason season are still weaknesses. Need an OL or 2 unless the staff is really high on the young guys, probably 2 more DL to be safe, and 1 or 2 more CBs. Though players always step up and contribute who you don't expect. Examples would probably be Lewis, McCoy, and Landers (only because he was a true freshman) just last year. Luckily it seems the staff seems to be on the same page with who has moved on and who we're offering, so I think most will be addressed. If so, 2023 should be a bowl season. We should be 4 scholarship players under the limit right now, so there is room. I also think there are more players we could afford to lose.

What's your theory on the reasoning for the recent wave of players entering? I would have thought most would have entered after post season meetings with the players, and thought those would have happened in December. Additionally from a player standpoint, you would think you want to enter before the new semester started so you could enroll and participate in spring ball at your new place.

Jester is now rated and is the highest ranked high school signee in our class per 247. https://247sports.com/player/david-jester-46056682/ -
Bryce Wilson in the portal too. That loss has a little more impact than Fann, but he was relegated to a rotational player under Moorhead as well. I think we were all wanting some turnover on the OL and DL, and we are getting it. Looking forward to see who we can bring in...

One of the guys I thought it would make sense for. He was in his 3rd or so year of school last year and wasn't able to sniff the field, even being a transfer from FSU.
-
With Kent being the media darlings right now, I wouldn’t trust the voters to make the right choice. Let’s hope we can put an end to all the ranked talk and leave no doubt.

Any info on a nee DL coach? Been a few weeks since it was first reported Debo was leaving. Figure nobody really wants to commit without knowing who their coach will be. -
Interesting and good discussion comparing the two teams. This team still has its issues, though some guys like Hunter starting to come along would play a big part in addressing them. One good thing I can say about this team that is we have no "bad" losses thus far. The WKU and SDSU win looked good on paper at the time. They aren't looking great but are still "OK" to good wins. Nevada is shockingly at the top of the Mountain West early. We probably should have beaten them.

Who gives out contract extensions in the first half of a season? No one. Complaining about extensions/Guthrie is premature.
