  1. Akron will have a much better chance with Moore back there. They will need someone that can move. Nicely will get killed back there. If Moore is as advertised he will at least keep the chains moving a little bit. OSU has all new linebackers back there along with some new faces on the d-line. Moore could make it interesting. What makes you think that Moore gives us a better chance? I don't care if your Mike Vick if your o-line does not pick up the rush he's going down. What exactly did you see that I missed in the spring. What the ten passes that he completed to sideline reciever. Patrick gives us a much better chance to win. He works harder , knows the offense better, has a better arm, has a better head on his shoulders and has class. I really would hope that zipnation would support him after all he's been through but I'm well aware of the what have you done for me lately mentality. I'm a supporter and can't wait till he proves it. Zips 21 Ohio Stae 35. Just to much depth!GO ZIPS!!Alright everyone let's say hello to Mrs. Nicely...Hi Mrs. Nicely! How is Patrick's summer going?
  2. Yeah for real...at least say "her" when referring to Zippy, since she's a girl
  3. Actually there has been just one Akron soccer player who played a year and left for the MLS. But you're right, women could not play on the men's soccer team or in a men's professional league
  4. The good thing about the 21st century is that we don't need to rely on three news stations to get our information. There are an unlimited amount of resources on the internet to find out what is going on in the world and within our own boarders.
  5. Begs the question ... if they are what they are .. are they or are they not stereotypes?Getting cornfused here ... Supposed Zips fans siding with the golden felons. You sure you areposting to the right board?Obviously Yazster was not in the room when Chris Singletary gave Nate Linhart that(sic) nasty beat down on national TV.I'm sorry you misunderstood me (my fault for not being clear). What I was saying is that in all seriousness we have two big stereotypes about Can't. 1) Every student there sucks (based on us just hating their school in general) and 2) They're entire basketball team are thugs (based on their entire basketball team being thugs).
  6. Man this is nuts. You can make an argument that although we give Can't a lot of crap for being awful people and stupid and all that, that really they are not all bad people and that it's all in the fun of the rivalry. However it's not even a joke anymore to say that their basketball players are criminals. Way to perpetuate stereotypes...bunch of thugs
  7. My guess is as follows: Mattocks HolmesQuinn Walls Trapp CaldwellMayer Barson Gallego YedlinHonestly the only newcomers I would bet my life on starting are Mayer and Gallego. Everyone else I could theoretically see a scenario where they don't.I can't see Quinn or Walls transferring unless they were guaranteed a starting spot. Quinn was the MVC Freshman of the Year and a Freshman AA while Walls is in his last year of eligibility.BTW, very well done on the infographic. I love those things. This was my exact prediction! If two people guessed it, that means it will certainly be true! I agree with your thoughts on Walls and think they apply to Holmes too. If you have only one season left of eligibility and you are starting at your school, why would you transfer if you don't expect to start? Because honestly, in Porter's system, to not start is really to not play, he doesn't like to rely on excessive substitutions. These guys are trying to get big attention by being at a big program in their last seasons so that they have a shot at the pros, and they're not going to get that shot from the bench.I agree with point about transfer eligibility. There is no reason for upperclassmen to transfer except for guaranteed starting spot. That likely ensures that Quinn and Walls start. Holmes definitely starts no matter how you slice it. He is that good. I agree with lineup you two propose, and you are very likely correct. However, suppose this Barrett is something special up top. Hard to believe Porter is bringing in another Jamaican forward just to sit bench. Otherwise, why not Tulloch? That would move Holmes back to his more natural position of AMid.Mattocks – FBarrett, Chiu? - FHolmes – MTrapp – MCaldwell – MHere is where it gets dicey!Balogun, Bonilla, Brenes, Portillos, Quinn, Walls? – MMayer, Afsarifard? - DBarson – DGallego - D Yedlin – DPersonally, I like Balogun at D rather than M.As much as I hate to mention it, Speas’ departure at least makes more sense now. I will know much more once I watch practice, providing I have the time, and providing they allow it.What is with all these GKs? Meves is officially on notice!Well actually my buddy (where are you Ando?) said he did watch them play the other day (albeit he said it was against a highschool team) and gave me a few notes:-He said David Mayer looked really solid. With him being an LB by trade, I expect him to start there.-I will quote him as saying that the other Jamaican is the "anti-Darren" in the sense that he holds the ball and passes. He also said that Barret maybe takes too many touches and is somehow scrawnier than Darren. He suspected that Barret would probably be coming off the bench. -He said that he also though Balogun looked good too, though he was playing on the backline.-He also told me to take his observations with a grain of salt.
  8. Evil is a pretty subjective word don't you think? Who are any of you to decide what "evil" is? And you called the people who voted for Barack Obama illiterate? How can you say that? Am I illiterate? How does having a political view that is opposite yours equate to illiteracy? You are saying that far more than half of those Americans who voted in the 2008 presidential election are illiterate? That is quite a claim and I would bet you do not have the sources to back that up. "Illiteracy" and "don't agree with Buckzip" are not synonymous and it is wrong of you to make such a comment about your fellow Americans, calling them illiterate because they disagree with you about their choice for president.Furthermore I don't know how you can call the president a "piece of s***,"regardless of the president or your political affiliation. I would also like to hear your legitimate claim for how Barack Obama hates the United States and is making an effort to destroy it. This is the most advanced nation in the world. Do you realize how our political system works? How could a man who you claim is single handedly trying to destroy the United States obtain the highest office in the land? Some of you make ridiculous statements, you don't agree with a few of someone's opinions and you write him off as the anti-Christ. It's not even like the president himself makes legislation. I'm not sure why I am even trying to convince you guys of this, but there is no way you can really believe the president of the United States is "evil" Oh, and discussing politics is not stupid if the point isn't to insult people but rather to try to teach each other. Unfortunately there are too many people who make broad sweeping comments based on their black and white views of the world. There is no black and white, there is no good and evil, everything is based on perspective. If you are just going to say things that don't make sense, then please provide a disclaimer. If you are really trying to engage in a discussion, then really think about the legitimacy of what you are saying before you say it.

  10. Teal is definitely in a funk and he has been there for a while now. However I don't think he is done with the USMNT. Remember, he is only 21 and there is still plenty of season left and plenty of career left. He has proven that he has the talent, and you don't just lose talent for no reason. I'd say he has just lost his confidence. Everyone knows Teal is good. When he didn't get the call up for the Gold Cup, MLS ran a whole article about him not getting selected, which obviously means they thought he should have (honestly, we know why Bradley didn't pick him, but he couldn't have possibly been more of a bust than Wondo was). I have faith that Teal will be back, something just has to change. Either way, though, I am excited for this team. I had been waiting to hear predictions for the squad cause I was counting on at least Perry being listed, and I am glad to see Zarek got his name tossed in the mix too. Before any call ups are made though, they need to name a coach, and while it's a little far fetched, there is a chance that Caleb Porter's name could be in the discussion for this team. Wouldn't THAT be great?
  11. So...many...questions. Can we have another Porter Q&A pleaseeee???My first question without a doubt is why we have FIVE GKs on our roster? I have to imagine that one of them is leaving, McAdams would make sense since he hasn't used any eligibility and obviously isn't moving up the depth chart any time soon. But still, FIVE?I'm going to go out on a limb and say David Mayer is going to be the answer to the problem that everyone from Caleb Porter to Bob Bradley has had: I need a good left back. If he is from an EPL academy I would expect good things. We know last year's freshman second in the nation goal scoring machine will start up top and maybe Luke Holmes will be his strike partner? Looks like we have a few other options to go with up top. Strangely enough, none of them are the ones we thought would be options a few months ago (cough...Tulloch, Diaz, Genovesie, SPEAS )The real big question I have though is what to do with that midfield? Looks like SO many skilled players. I expect Scotty, Balogun, Brenes, Walls, Trapp, and Quinn to all be the biggest guys competing for minutes. This is such a new team. With such a small core of guys coming back, I don't know if you can even call it a core; it's like a mini-core. It's going to be weird seeing so many unrecognizable faces out there. I can't wait to see this new team. I think it's going to be a crazy year. I am pumped.
  12. Seems like there aren't enough minutes to go around for the freshmen. We have last year's five big contributors (Zeke, Nik, Nitro, Q, AA) returning plus two transfers who had to sit out a year (Walsh, Gilliam) plus two non-qualifiers who couldn't play with the program but are already a year into school (Tree, Harney) plus Egner, oh and Michael Green will probably want to play too (I don't know if I really see him fitting in with this team, but I don't know enough about him to be certain). So that is already 10-11 guys, and I can't even see all of them getting significant minutes. We have either seen or heard that the aforementioned players really good, coupled with the fact that some of them were brought into this program and have been waiting a year to actually play a game, I'm just not sure where the freshmen would fit.

  14. Apparently not. Hope it's nothing major.Something funny going on -- he's not listed as a sub, including DNP category for any of the (3) box scores I saw for this one. Assume he must have gone on IR, but it's not reported on SJEarthquakes.com (admittedly a poor site by a crummy administration) as having sustained an injury. I think he played 90 in the previous game vs NYRB played at Stanford U before >40,000. Anybody back there heard anything about our Tony?Maybe he was sick from too many root beer floats
  15. This attitude stinks IMO. I hope the team proves you wrong.I hope they prove me wrong too, and I was absolutely making a joke, I don't expect our QB to get injured in this game, and I will be celebrating with everyone else if we somehow pull of an upset. However, if we are going to talk trivia, when was the last time OSU lost to another team from Ohio? Correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe it was Oberlin in 1921. A win for us would be miraculous, not getting destroyed would be great, but I expect a loss. Yes, with all the stuff that has been going on in Columbus, if there was ever a year for OSU to lose to smaller program, this would be the year for sure. I'm not certain though that given our team situation, we will be that program to do it. Make no mistake though, I (born and raised in central Ohio) will be rooting for the Zips that day no matter what.
  16. Is, or isn't this going to happen? There was a video released a few months ago by University Park Alliance showing their vision for the future of University Park area. Here is the website, the video will probably be the first thing to pop up. The artist renderings of future downtown Akron are a little ways into the video, and I just took a screenshot of that part of the video.
  17. Whichever QB is worse is the one I want starting against OSU so that the good one isn't injured the rest of the season.

  19. There was an article on the same page as this one that said "Former YSU Coach to Head Chinese Team" and although I knew it was a basketball team, my first thought was Tressel
  20. Hey I just graduated and attended almost every home game while I was in school, why is this the first time I have seen this masterpiece?
  21. Actually that second one reminds me, I think one of the greatest JAR moments was the celebration for the soccer team being Oh last one (I think): My Human Rights in International Politics class (JAR basement ) where I made a certain 6'8" Serbian classmate of mine upset by mocking him on the attendance sheet. On the first day of class he wrote his name in English and then in Serbian in parenthesis and so when it came my way I saw that and did the same thing with English and Arabic. When the sheet made it back to him, he asked Yazan Ahmad to identify himself, and I didn't. He said "Oh well that guy is a copycat." I thought I was in the clear until the professor asked us each to go around and introduce ourselves. His nickname for me after that was "copycat." Yeah that's right, copycat.

  23. Zippy descending from the rafters in honor of her winning the Capital One Mascot Bowl. LeBron James receiving his awar-just kidding.
  24. I know this isn't development academy but I thought I would throw it in here: David Meves's Chicago Fire Premier side lost to 3-0 to Sporting Kansas City in open cup play last night. One of the three goals netted against Meves was by his former teammate Teal Bunbury. I'm still getting used to understanding the whole American soccer pyramid and how PDL is included and how open cup works. I know the chances of winning are extremely slim, but it's odd to think a team of college athletes could win a national tournament against professional teams. It's just something that you don't really have in other sports (I think, am I wrong?). Either way, the fact that professional teams lose to each other with wider margins, a bunch of full time students on Summer break losing to a professional side 3-0 isn't awful.
