Crew considering move to Austin, TX
fknbuflobo replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
When is Wil’s contract done? Perhaps it is time for Trapp to work overseas. -
There is no doubt that a foul occurred. Spot of infraction is critical to referee’s decision. Where the actual moment of foul is what counts. I was 35 feet away, maybe closer. Contact was initiated outside the box, but foul occurred inside the 18. In similar situations, Referees will most often reward a Free Kick outside the box because spot of foul is called into question. I would not have blamed the Ref last night for deciding likewise. It took courage to award a second Penalty Kick to the home side in a high profile match. I have no problem whatsoever with the PK awarded in the first half. That gets called 10 out of 10 times.

Zips deserved win. Irish are best side we have faced so far this year. Quality victory with RPI points harvested!

Check the thread. I did not post that article, though I most certainly would have. Eric Wynalda for USSF president!

100 top freshman in the country

No. Are there really 30 freshmen better than Strachan? Let’s see our freshmen CBs vs. high powered offense. -
That long!?

Watch out for #10 Jon Gallagher. http://www.und.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/jon_gallagher_904790.html

Who is better, or cooler, than DeAndre Yedlin?
-
This is an excellent article that I encourage all to read. Tom Luntz is right. We will have arrived as a soccer nation when players developed organically, playing incessant “pick-up” ball. No coaches! No referees! USA has embraced the business of soccer more than it has the pure love for the game. This is changing, but too slowly.
-
I cannot vote for USSF president, but if I could, I would vote for Eric Wynalda. What he lacks in corporate acumen can be exceeded by Soccer experience and passion.
-
And so, CP should be credited with Yedlin’s switch to defense. The way I heard it, from extremely reliable sources, DeAndre had never played defense prior to meeting Porter. I am not contending your point.
-
DeA was a MF prior to meeting Porter.

We have dissected CP for decades now, some since before he came to Akron. We know he has warts; he is not perfect. He can be annoyingly stubborn. Arrogant. We also know that CP is a natural, perhaps even gifted, leader of men. He is passionate about soccer, in the very essence of that word. USSF could do much worse than Caleb Porter.

Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville

This squad is really banged up. We may not have Gainford until November. Maybe not at all. The 2017 season will be told in the next 8 days. -
A draw is a result. It is worth 1 point. A win is a “result” worth 3 points. A loss is worth no points, or no result. “Result” = An outcome “resulting” in points.
-
In Soccer parlance, result means win or draw. Not exactly sure when that terminology started, but it is very old, like 100+ years old. An Arsenal fan, I have read accounts of soldiers, newly returned from the Boer War, hoping the club could get a result vs. Newcastle United.

I do not insinuate that Zips are in with no worries. Don’t get me wrong. I am plenty worried! To your point, an At Large bid for the MAC will be a horrible seeding. We need some scorers to return to form and/or to regain health. -

I beg to differ. This will likely be the rare year when the MAC gets an At Large bid. Both WMU and AKR are currently well into the top 48 in RPI. Currently #11 and #20 respectively. Both teams will be hurt some by playing the rest of the MAC. But they are both probably going to make the tourney, seeded high, low, or otherwise. Remember, NCAA could not care less about any poll. NCAA Tournament seeding is 99% straight RPI. https://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/ -

W Michigan 1-0 Akron Zips physically dominated, if not tactically dominated, by a rough and tumble Bronco's squad. Goal surrendered on a re-start, a weakness of Zips' since the W. Bush administration. MAC play will be more interesting this year than in any in recent memory. -
