  1. I got the 3.5 hours from MapQuest; 2.5 is almost tempting. AK-Rowdies: Go with God! Represent loudly and proudly!
  2. So, no soccer program has beaten Zips as much as defending champion Hoosiers. We should play Indiana every single year. 12 losses to SIUE? Really?
  3. I have very similar memories. In fact, ACME-Zip games at the Rubber Bowl were my (most fortuitous) introduction to Soccer.
  4. Real rivalries are NOT about the competitive aspect of the athletic teams. Not really. True rivalries actually concern the competitive nature of the respective fan bases. THAT is how the Browns/Steelers rivalry has endured through the current 15 year slough. God knows it has not been competitive. Fan bases for collegiate soccer are admittedly small on an objective scale. So, we are speaking only in relative terms. Though the total may be objectively small, every single person who is an OSU Soccer supporter considers Akron a rival. No bout a doubt it.
  5. Right. Renewing an annual clash with Indiana would remedy that situation.
  6. I know plenty of folks who care about OSU Soccer and want to see it improve. But you are right. Most OSU sports fans (I know thousands) care as much about soccer as they care about, well, ...about a college education. Buckeyes are an established marketing brand as much as they are anything else. BTW, nothing wrong about that. I am lucky that my alma mater is nationaly relevant in my favorite sport. Soccer is not my only sport, mind you, it is just my favorite. The question begs: Why are you here if you do not care? You are certainly welcome, and you have every right to speak your mind, but why do you bother to post here if you do not care about MSOC?
  7. This discussion (obviously) applies strictly to Men’s Soccer. Don't forget that Buckeyes were runners-up to Wake Forest in 2007. They have fallen are some hard times since then. Even though Akron historically dominates in the W/L record, the match is quite competitive each year, often more competitive than it (on paper) should be. But there is more at stake in this annual derby than mere bragging rights. These two programs are vying for the same recruits, particularly from the two Ohio hotbeds of high school soccer, NEO and Greater CLB. ****Indiana**** is another topic entirely. For those who need to be told, each asterisk represents a championship. We used to play them every year. Now, we play them about every fourth year. Recently, we have got the best of them, though the historical W/L record is lopsided heavily in their favor. Hoosiers are what the Zips aspire to be, perennial contender for the College Cup. And yes, Indiana is vying for many of the same recruits, though probably on a more national than regional level. These two programs are our greatest MSOC rivals, each for somewhat different reasons. Which is the greater I cannot say. We have a long history with both. I never want to stop playing OSU, be they in a down cycle or not. We should play them every year. I also believe we should renew the annual clash with IU. These enduring rivalries are good for collegiate soccer.
  8. The OSU rivalry wans when they are mediocre. I too would like to play Indiana every year. We owe Hoosiers much more pay back - in soccer.
  9. At SMU, Alfred Koroma is rounding into what we all thought he could become. More is the pity. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soc...ma/cpid-1002618 I suggest Riley Grant in that role. Dude has wheels.
  10. Who of these four is match fit?
  11. Don't worry, I am not bumming a ride. Gotta work early Monday. Hopefully, the match will be streamed through MAC. Mountaineers will likely be the toughest MAC test for Zips, especially considering overall health of roster.
  12. I am with you! From your mouth to God's ears!
  13. I mean no disrespect, but that is unacceptable hogwash! Your several years of patience could easily turn into never again if we are not careful. Zips absolutely must AT LEAST make the NCAA Tournament this year! Recruiting depends on it. Rookie HC Carlos Somoano succeeded legendary Tarheels' coach Elmar Bolowich by promptly winning the 2011 championship. http://www.goheels.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB...TCLID=205497556
  14. "Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."
  15. Totally agree on this one. Gallego is still a leader, no bout a doubt it. But Stevenson is matching leadership with on-the-field excellence. He is ferocious this year. He has come such along way from skinny kid at Worthington Christian! In 2009, there was no way I would have thought he would be the player he is now. Hell, I think he might even play his way into the pros! Wow!
  16. Do you have any more information on who spoke and what they said at the "I believe" chant? I arrived late.
  17. Very well said.
  18. Does there exist a transcript of the HT Wil Trapp interview?
  19. Observations on the atmosphere: 1. The home loss, in our tournament, to VCU really hurt the season and hurt the program. Fans do not perceive the Zips as a legit contender. 2. An irreplaceable and extraordinarily charismatic leader is gone. Duh. 3. Fans have accurately discovered that the bleachers are the only good seats. There are no good seats in FE/CC that do not require season tix. There are a few choice standing places for General Admission, but no good GA seats. This hurts the program in the long view. They need to expand the bleachers on either side and open it to GA. More would attend if they could get a decent seat.
  20. That is still funny.
  21. As usual, throw out the respective W/L records when these two programs face each other. This match-up is more than just bragging rights, it is about recruiting the state of Ohio.
  22. Up and coming BGSU Falcons visit FA/CC. Despite the Falcons' recent "success" and the Zips' underachieving struggles early on, I expect a beat down. Time to take out our frustrations on somebody!
  23. St. John's #7 VCU #8
  24. I count that horrific goal surrendered as Pina error. Gravatt played the ball square to Pina, which was already questionable in a tight space. Pina then played a veritable hospital ball square to Souders. Aztecs pounced. Pina was the only one with the vantage point of seeing the entire field. He should have seen the Aztec press, one-touched that ball for a ride. If over the touch-line, then so be it! That is my recollection of events. It was disgusting to witness. Souders is a tackling machine, and he wins almost every head ball. His passes, especially back to GK, are sometimes shaky. This may be a moot point, because I suspect that Bryan Gallego is going to miss significant time before returning. Louis Cross/Andrew Souders tandem will likely see at least a few matches.
