Maybe you are correct with regard to actual attendance rates compared with reported. But if you want to compare Can't-Akron game attendance you will need to use reported for both years or actual numbers for both years. Using actual numbers for this year vs reported for last year’s is meaningless.

I did not mean to imply that he was as talented as Brees. My comparison was purely for ...uh...logistical or technical reasons. Brees is shorter and the defensive linemen bigger. If Brees could make those throws...Moore should be able to as well. Having said that....I do see some similarities to Brees. I have always been a Brees fan and was at the Wisconsin game when he leveled a linebacker on a reverse play. He got a standing ovation from the home Wisconsin fans for his fearless play. I see some of that in Moore...and loved that he came back and got a block on a defensive linemen on a broken play. Some people do not look beyond summary statistics to make judgments. The facts are these: 13-28 with 3 TDs and no Ints. 8 of those receptions went to Sconiers leading the same people to believe that he was only throwing to Sconiers. Here are the more detailed facts: Attempts/Completions 1. Sconiers 8-11 (2 TD) 2. Price 0-6 3. Russell 1-2 4. Dillard 2-2 (1 TD) 5. Ladrach 1-1 6. Chisolm 1-1 7. Knocked down at line 5 Additionally, 2 balls were tipped at the line of scrimmage ...I do not know who they were intended for but they had to be to Sconiers, Price or Russell....probably Price. Considering that he never connected with Price....he obviously did not ignore him. Only an idiot would argue he threw Price uncatchable balls intentionally. If you remove the balls batted down at the line of scrimmage.... Moore was 13-23. If you exclude the 2 tipped balls he was 13-21. If you exclude the ball he threw away intentionally he was 13-20. He was 13-20 of balls thrown that cleared the line of scrimmage and were intended for a target. AND...Price ran the wrong route on one play and the ball was 15-20 yards from any receiver. AND a few others were catchable. The point is....he made good decisions and I only saw one poor throw. He threw a few balls in tight coverage that only the intended receiver could have caught...a very mature play. There were 2 balls slightly underthrown. One by about few feet to a yard and the other by a few yards. Given that the throws were 40-45 yards down field, I would to say it was not as bad as it looked. Price missed the entire preseason and may not have the same chemistry with Moore as the others. The fact that he under threw may be just that...unfamiliar with the speed and route running of the intended target. Hopefully he and Price develop more chemistry...we could have a really good passing game if they do. Moore MUST get better at finding passing lanes though. I doubt that has ever been an issue before now.

I've already stated many times that I would absolutely PASS on Winters, and have stated why. And I was pretty much done with the topic again until I saw this. So, because Keith was an "Akron Guy" and has done very well with the basketball program, we could predict Winters future success because he is an "Akron Guy" too? First, there is no comparison between Keith and Winters, in many, many ways, including that one was a previous D-1A MAC head coach, and the other has D-II as his highest level of head coaching experience. Secondly, I am completely puzzled as to why some people continue to use "He's an Akron Guy" as his big qualifying criteria. We've had this discussion many times among long-time friends and supporters. And I can tell you, the overwhelming consensus among the people I know is that we would want the best coach....period....whether he hails from Akron or from Alaska. Maybe we should have passed on Caleb since he wasn't an "Akron Guy" There is a difference. Soccer was already an elite program when Caleb took over. He took it to the next level. 1. Basketball was a program in decline and not winning. Easy risk to take by hiring an "Akron" guy. 2. Baseball is a program in decline and not winning. Easy risk to take by hiring an "Akron" guy. 3. Let's assume ICoach fails and must be replaced. I am all in favor of getting the best guy to do the job. But Bowden is a D1AA guy...so he does not impress me. Unless you can get a Solich type (Tressel??) than I am in favor of giving Paul Winters a shot before some untried assistant. But this is NOT going to happen...ICoach will succeed!!!! The power of positive thinking

That is hard to believe. Did he mention anything about QB knock downs at the line yesterday? I had an unofficial count of 15 between the two teams. How many do you have for Moore...knocked down or deflected?? I don't believe his size is too much a disadvantage...but he must learn to better use the passing lanes. If Drew Brees could do it (he is smaller), than I am sure Moore can do it at a lowere competion level.

Was at the game. No,there were not anywhere close t0 14,000 in the place. Assuming they counted the high school bands and the no shows I doubt they could come up with 14,000. Our season tickets are in 212. It was REALLY sparse up there. Has been for both games. There were maybe 9,000 actually there. I also noticed the student section was practically empty. The grass was not crowded either. I am still not surprised at attendance. Even when the program was winning and going to playoffs in the 60's and 70's it was like this. I have season tickets in 212. Row 1, seats 3 & 4. Stop by and say hello.

Here are my thoughts: 1. We already have a head coach. Period. 2. It is unlikely that an AD not from Akron will take the risk to hire Winters to be HC 3. Current OC was set to follow Haywood to Pittsburgh. He seems like the most likely to leave. Winters would be a great replacement/upgrade after the season. 4. Sometimes in life you have to reprove yourself with new bosses. I don't know if Latina is highly regarded by ICoach and I don't know if he is thinking of leaving. He already planned to take a different job. If I was TW...I would look at this option. Encourage ICoach to make the change as a possible long term succession plan. My guess is that ICoach already has a long term succession plan (if he is successful with the Zips) and that is the current QB coach. So...this probably is just my fantasy and a waste of time. In my business life we have always encouraged our employees to portray happiness to customers. Truth be told...it is easier to hire happy people rather than to train someone to be happy. Same applies here....it is easier to create loyalty by hiring loyal people. Look at how that worked out in basketball. With that in mind...I would pursue Paul Winters. Let's be honest...we are not taking a risk with a program rich in tradition like OSU, Michigan or Alabama....or even Miami of Ohio. This would be an easy risk for me to take.

Phew.... a break till Wednesday!!!!!!!! I think I will go on vacation Thursday
-
It would be nice to bring him here as OC under ICoach. We could see what he could do at this level. If ICoach moves on because he built a winner...Paul could be the successor. If ICoach is dumped because he could not produce a winner...Paul could be an interim coach and we could see if he was worth keeping. If he is here....there are way more options. And I don't think he is too old. Nobody thought the Ohio coach was too old.

I am impressed that you take the time to influence young kids. How many kids will you be taking to the game??
-
Now....your company did not have both thumbs or they we strategically placed up their arse?? In either case…it would make them useless.

What if it is neither the process or personnel and all about philosophy? Can't the process of implementing a pro style offense and good personnel fall short if what you are asking people to do in 2011 won't work or at least isn't in the world of reality? Why did the pro-style work so well at Temple??Did the "veer", "option" work well ay Ohio in year one?? I like the spread. But if I was going to build a system from scratch...I would use the "west coast" offence of the 49er's when they had powerful running backs and used the run often. Today's WC offense is to pass oriented. The big issue, IMO, is the talent available at smaller schools for the O-line. We definitely need a moving pocket and 3 step drop with the current state of the O-line. Hopefully they can develop and improve...because that is the weakest part of the team.

And what makes you think that someone with a coaching job at UCLA is going to leave that for AKRON?Anyway, please don't hijack the thread. This is not about "who" we could get.The question is, should UA take a shot at getting Hix if his playing days are over? With his experience, I think it could be a great fit.Because he'd be a Head Coach at a D-1A school instead of an Offensive Coordinator? JD didn't seem to have any problem leaving a longtime OC job at Pitt to take over a D-1A program as the head guy. I'd love to see us pursue Johnson too. Hixon? Has he ever coached anything? Maybe a WR coach somewhere would be more fitting? For those of you who haven't noticed, I am wholeheartedly against bringing a particular D-2 coach up to our level, and he is an Akron alum. So, how on earth could I find a way to support bringing in another ex-player who hasn't even coached at all?I really find that these kinds of discussions add to our "small time" complex. Becoming our football coach makes you the head of one of the 120 schools who are at the highest level of college football. That should attract interest from a heck of a lot more good candidates than an ex-player with low level experience, or no experience at all. Vrabel took a LB job this year with OSU. It was his first coaching experiance anywhere. Hixon could coach special teams or WRs or be a special assistant to get his feet wet.
-
Is Hixon obligated to remain with the Giants the rest of the year?? When would he be available??

I hope ICoach will find a spot on his staff for him after the season. Hixon will have to show some interest in coaching though.I remember him as the cosumate team player. He would be a good addition to any teams staff.

I work quite a bit with ISO processes. ISO Certification is absolutely necessary if we are to sell product to anyone. QS Certification is required if we are to sell to the Automotive industry. These processes are all a bunch of crap. The certifications assure nothing but that we follow a consistent process. The process could be horribly flawed, but as long as we follow it, and document that we follow it, then the Auditors are happy and our certification is renewed. I believe Ianello has a process. And there is no doubt that he will stick to that process come hell or high water. My only hope that he can adapt came last week when he pulled several red shirts. It was the first time he's shown he was tired of getting absolutely waxed. Until that point, he has shown that he's favored his process over scoreboard. ISO, QS and Six Sigma are more for marketing. It is the marketing people clamoring for those certifications. They want IPods, large expense accounts and work from home 32 hours per week. Like you, I think they are all waste of time. Process includes hiring, firing, promotion, setting performance standards, loss prevention, motivational issue like pay, work place and more. It includes how manufacturing flows and how things are ordered, purchased, delivered and made available to customers. In includes a lot of things. You are taking a small slice of the picture and making conclusions from that. I know you don't believe in it...I do. I have worked for a fortune 500 from its beginning, was part of 2 failed start-ups and systems and process were crucial in all. I have started 3 successful small companies (Bali, California & Florida) with my own money...none require for me to be there because of the systems and processes put in place. Mock it if you want...but it will be with your chest out instead of your wallet open. The Ianello process I refer to has little to do with game day play calling. It includes everything else. Recruiting, conditioning, academics, expectations and much much more. Dave is correct...it will be hard to know immediately and if you find out that it is not working...you probably wasted 3 years. FIU, Temple and others were rewarded for their patience. If Ianello finishes with 5 wins…I will argue his plan appears to be working. Each year the team should be improving. I don’t believe in 5 year plans…by the end of year 3 we should be competing at the top level within our conference
-
I respectfully disagree. To build a long-term successful company that is repeatable you need great systems, processes, talented and committed leaders built for AVERAGE people. Wang had great people. Do you think Jo-Ann Fabrics have had great people for decades?? It is HR speak thet you need "great" people and as a manager you will always say that....but you really need great systems and processes. That is what makes the US great. Average people can achieve great things. Building anything that requires great people will eventually fail. Great people will look to move up and out. That is the one thing I like about ICoach. He is consumed by building a repeatable process. Whether he is capable is another thing. His window for success is closing and we have yet to see signs that his plan is working. Truthfully though...I never expected us to win the first 3 games. So for me...the true evaluation period starts this week. We need to win 5 games and start to be competitive even against better teams.

Do we have an extra uniform??

Temple's first year was 1894 and had to downgrade from a FBS conference. Before their recent success they were far worse than the Zips and had just as bleak future.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_Owls_football I am not suggesting that ICoach will be another Golden or Cristobal. But their programs had some of the same issues and succeeded. The comparison to Golden is to the type of offence he chose to run.

3. Somebody should be watching Mario Cristobal: It was a nice little story last week when Florida International went on the road and beat Louisville 24-17. It was the first win ever against a team from an AQ conference for FIU. Now the Golden Panthers have stepped out there and done something serious. They beat UCF, the defending Conference USA champion, 17-10 on Saturday before the largest crowd in school history (20,205). And FIU basically did it without all-world receiver T.Y. Hilton, who left the game after three catches with a hamstring issue. The Panthers shared the Sun Belt title with Troy last season after starting 0-4. This season they are off to the best start in school history. Look at the schedule. Yes, FIU could win them all. "When you have a victory like this the eyes continue to open and open wide," said Cristobal, in his fifth season as a head coach, who said that FIU is "a program on the rise." He just signed a new five-year deal this summer. http://www.cbssports.com/#!/collegefoo...-fius-on-a-rollHead coaching recordYear Team Overall Conference Standing Bowl/playoffs Coaches# AP° Florida International University (Sun Belt Conference) (2007–present) 2007 FIU 1–11 1–6 T–7th 2008 FIU 5–7 3–4 T–5th 2009 FIU 3–9 3–5 T–6th 2010 FIU 7–6 6–2 T–1st W Little Caesars Pizza 2011 FIU 2–0 1–0 FIU: 18–33 14–17 Total: 18–33 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_CristobalHis resume prior to his recent success in not that impressive.I think we need to give the team and current coach to the end of the year before making any coaching change decisions. (although 0-4 would be unacceptable here)

See, I told you so. I was right. I knew this guy was a bad hire. Shoulda listened to Tressel. Shoulda hired Fickell. I was right. Told ya so. The Zips suck. I was right. Zips are going to go 0-12. Told you so. I was right. See, see? Listen to me. Listen to me. Give me attention. I want attention! Iiiiiiiiiiii waaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssss riiiiiiiiigggghhhhhtttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Right??? Right??? Right??? I thought politics were verbotin!!!! You are from Ashland...we know you are right

I am not an apologist. I don't think G-mann, DIG or many others are either. Some are a little more complex than black or white. If the Zips meet the requirements in your post...will you stop the complaining for or a week at least??

I like your honesty and loyalty. lol 1 is fair. It puts up a "W"

Is the VMI game the last straw for Ianello?
Doug Snyder replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips Football
What do you expect the line to be? No line as of yet.The only place I ever bet is on the golf course....I go along with any game my friends want to play but never suggest a bet. And the stakes are never more than $20. So....I don't follow the line and have no clue what it will be. My WAG is the Zips should be expected to beat a D1A team at home by 14 points or more. I think it will be more and here is why:1. The game seemed to slow down a lot for Moore in the second half and he made some good decisions and nice throws.2. As I stated before the season, I believe the WRs and RBs are far better than anyone here expected…and better than last year. I still do. They are not the problem. The O-Line is. But they should not be overpowered by VMI. That should allow our skill positions to excel and get some confidence and rhythm3. There is now a new sense of urgency...from the players to the coaches. Freshman will now play if the veterans are not up to the job. The team is looking to beat up on someone.
