  1. NYCZIP has a good post under woman's soccer......about the 28 player roster limit ...starting next year. I know that men's soccer will also be be impacted by the roster limits and the change in scholarship limits. I did not know much about the subject. I knew in the back of my mind that the current scholarship limit would increase substantially from the current 9.9 limit. I have attached a link from NCSA. https://www.ncsasports.org/mens-soccer/scholarships#:~:text=D1 men's soccer programs will, and full scholarships to recruits. The info below in bold is a key part of the article. There are charts and much more detailed info in the link above. These changes would impact men’s soccer recruits and college Div. 1 men's soccer teams in the following ways: D1 men’s soccer programs will be allowed to offer 28 scholarships, up from the current limit of 9.9. D1 men’s soccer will have a maximum roster limit of 28. D1soccer is already an equivalency sport and will continue to offer both partial and full scholarships to recruits. Note: These are the maximum scholarship and roster limits set by the NCAA, but schools aren’t required to meet these maximums. TennZip back writing again: Living far away from Akron, I have no contact with any of the Akron soccer coaches or anyone in the Athletic director's department. How many schools in Division 1 are now expected to fully fund 28 scholarships for men's soccer? Schools like Michigan, Ohio State, and Clemson (with huge football revenue) could have a significant advantage in soccer. Fortunately, none of the schools in the Big East are football powerhouses. I know that HillTopper and others that post on the board are tight with Charles Guthrie. It appears that YipaZip is very tight with the soccer coaches. What is the anticipation for the changes that Akron and other Big East schools will make in terms of the number of scholarships that will be used in fall 2025?
  2. Z.I.P. has a good post .... I certainly did not understand the process of how the Hermann Trophy winner is selected. Emil sadly was not on the pre season watch list https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/2024-mens-hermann-trophy-watch-list-announced/ here is a good article about the selection process Sadly, the Akron soccer SID Sean Palchick did not energize the Akron Fans to nominate Emil. https://www.machermanntrophy.org/selection Timeline Mid-August – Men’s and women’s Preseason Watch list is released (Approximately the top 40 males and top 40 female Division I college soccer players from the previous season) Early October – The “Candidates We Missed” campaign. College SIDs can energize their fans to nominate a player who did not make the Preseason Watch List to make the ballot in November. Mid November – The semifinalists (top 15 men and top 15 women) are announced. The voting of Division I coaches begins. Mid December – Top three women’s finalists announced at NCAA Women’s College Cup; Top three men’s finalists announced at NCAA Men’s College Cup. Early January - The men’s and women’s winners are announced at press conference and honored at MAC Awards Banquet. I sure hope that Sean Palchick is very active in mid November.......in making the various Division 1 coaches aware of why Emil should be the Hermann Trophy winner Near the end of the collegiate regular season, 15 players whom the committee considers the best in Division I soccer are announced as semifinalists for the award. That list is then voted on through an online voting process by men's and women's Division I soccer coaches whose teams are current NSCAA College Services members.
  3. I wonder when the Akron Beacon Journal is going to start covering this team again. It is disappointing that Chad Welker is the only one asking questions. The Beacon Journal needs to do an article on the Zips and their 8 game winning streak. The Beacon also needs to recognize the Big East Midwest division champions.
  4. once again, @fknbuflobo is our attendance expert box score shows attendance of 1,023.
  5. Make sure...that you read the entire post.....you will be super happy to read the last thing that I typed Xavier looked like a good soccer team when they played Akron tonight, Xavier played Butler . Butler was 0-5-0 in the league Butler beat the snot out of Xavier tonight. Butler with a 5-1 win St. Johns moved into a first place tie atop the east division with a 1-0 win over Seton Hall U Conn came into tonight with a 3-1-1 league record Providence had a quality 2-1 win tonight over a good UConn team Congratulations to the Big East Midwest Division Champions....the mighty Akron Zips !!! Big East standings Midwest Akron 6-0-0 18 Marquette 2-2-2 8 Creighton 2-3-1 7 DePaul 1-3-2 5 Xavier 1-3-2 5 Butler 1-5-0 3 East G'Town and St. Johns both 4-1-1 13 Providence 3-1-2 11 UConn 3-2-1 10 Seton Hall 2-3-1 7 Villanova 0-5-1 1 Saturday games Providence at Villanova noon DePaul at Georgetown 1 pm UConn at St. Johns 2 pm Butler at Creighton 4 pm Seton Hall at Xavier 7 pm Akron at Marquette 8 pm...........................game will be on FloFC saving the best part for last at 9;42 PM.....the zips are showing as #21 in RPI https://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/RPI Rank
  6. Outstanding team effort tonight. I am so happy to see the zips score a rebound goal tonight. Victor Gaulmin deserves to be in the post game press conference. Victor probably had his best game as a zip. He made some outstanding passes. The zips midfield of WKWK, Matt Dreas and Victor Gaulmin controlled the middle of the field in the last 80 minutes of the game Jonas Buechte really was fantastic in the 2nd half. He anticipated very well and he totally shut down Creighton on Jonas's half of the field. Chad Welker was bragging on Josh Hardin at the end of the game. Josh Hardin deserves a ton of credit. He was a highly touted junior and did not have much impact as a freshman. The young man has worked very hard and is now an excellent right back. The coaches have done well to make adjustments after the 1-3-3 start. What I love to see about the team is how they have multiple guys attacking the goal when there is an opportunity. Emil J. is obviously a gifted goal scorer. But, Emil also has great vision and he is a very unselfish passer. Dyson, WKWK, Victor, and Malik know that if they attack the goal, Emil will almost always see them and good things will happen. Finally, I do not know whose job it is........to promote Emil J. for the Hermann Trophy. I assume that is the job of the soccer SID. That person better be working super hard to promote Emil J as the player that should win the Hermann Trophy. Emil J. is a true team player. His work rate is off the charts. He has spectacular vision and is a great scorer/passer. 15 games - 18 goals and 7 assists. Spectacular.
  7. Matt Dreas had a very nice first half. He and Victor Gaulmin did well stepping into passing lanes. Creighton controlled the ball for the first 10 minutes...but Akron midfielders stepped up and helped Akron get a better portion of possession. I am always nervous when I see that Chico Grajeda is the head referee. He always gives a lot of yellows when players talk back(dissent). Zips have been well coached and are not arguing with Grajeda.
  8. One wednesday afternoon result was absolutely shocking to me Georgetown, 4-1-0 ...in the league played Villanova 0-5-0 the 2 teams played to a 3-3 tie this tie against a winless Big East team dropped Georgetown down to #10 in RPI UConn and St. Johns can both tie Georgetown at 4-1-1 if UConn and St. John's can get wins tonight Marquette played at DePaul this afternoon the 2 teams played to a 2-2 tie Marquette now has 8 points as a result of their 2-2-2 record DePaul is now 1-3-2 Go, Zips.....The zips can win the Midwest division with a win tonight in all honesty, they would also win the division with a tie.... as of 5:37 this afternoon, the zips are #32 in RPI The zips need to get the full 3 points tonight. Creighton is #48 in RPI...they are the highest ranked RPI team on Akron's remaining schedule. The zips must get a win tonight......to further improve their RPI.
  9. The zips have won 7 games in a row Akron has the leading goal scorer in the country. Emil has 16 goals. #2 in the country has 13 goals. https://www.ncaa.com/stats/soccer-men/d1 For my money, Mitch Budler has been the best GK in the Big East. He stood on his head repeatedly to help the zips get wins against Georgetown and Xavier. Beto Ydrach and Jonas Buechte , in my somewhat biased opinion, are the best CB duo in the Big East. Akron is playing as a team.....and is playing good soccer. The zips are ranked #18 by Top drawer soccer the zips are ranked #24 by the United Soccer coaches. https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/rankings/college-rankings/ncaa-di-men/ at the beginning of this week, the zips were #37 in RPI. Typically, only the top 40 or top 41 get into the NCAA if they don't win the conference. The zips must get wins at home on Wednesday night and on the road at Marquette. A loss to either would be absolutely devastating for RPI and would almost ensure that they would have to win the Big East Tournament in Boyds, MD. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/ncaa-mens-soccer-rpi This is an absolutely monster game for the zips. The weather is supposed to be perfect. 75 degrees during the day...62 degrees at 7 pm ...57 degrees at 9 pm I sure hope that the SID and the marketing department are posting signs all over campus....trying to get students to attend the game. The guardians season is over. I hope that the crowd on Wednesday night.....will be good. Sadly, I must ask......our attendance experts...... and @zippy-claws, and @fknbuflobo over or under 1,000 ???? go, Zips !!!
  10. Georgetown right now is getting tremendous national respect If the NCAA tournament draw was done today, Georgetown would be the #3 overall seed Ohio State would be the #1 overall seed https://www.ncaa.com/news/soccer-men/article/2024-10-20/division-i-mens-soccer-committee-reveals-top-16
  11. I am too bummed by the Guardians losing to the New York Money bags... so, I won't type out standings I will just attach a link to standings after tonight UConn defeated Butler tonight 1-0 Marquette went to Xavier tonight and the 2 teams played to 0-0 tie with 3 games left to play, (maximum of 9 points can be earned) the zips have 15 points they have 8 point lead over Creighton 2-2-1......7 points Marquette 2-2-1 ....7 points Akron plays those 2 teams in their next 2 Big East matchups Creighton plays Marquette in the last Big East game of the year https://www.bigeast.com/standings.aspx?path=msoc Wednesday night Oct. 23 matchups Marquette at DePaul 3 pm Georgetown at Villanova 3 pm St. Johns at Seton Hall 7 pm Xavier at Butler 7 pm Providence at UConn 7 pm Creighton at Akron 7 pm Looking at RPI....Sunday morning at 12:05 am Georgetown is #3 in RPI Akron is at #35 in RPI strength of schedule is 85 opponent strength of schedule is 8 Providence is only other Big East team in top 50 Friars are #38
  12. Creighton dominated Villanova this afternoon Creighton led 8-2 in shots on goal game was 2-0 at half time and was 3-1 final score Creighton is now 2-2-1 in the league Villanova drops to 0-5 in the league Creighton has now won 2 straight big East games. Last Saturday night, Creighton defeated a good Xavier team 1-0. Zips will have to play well Wednesday night at home against Creighton. and yes, the Zips need to be looking for revenge for last year's loss to the Blue Jays.
  13. Emil has to be a top 3 candidate for Hermann Trophy He is exceptional great skills but he also is one of the hardest workers great plAyer he is also very unselfish he made a great long pass on first goal today
  14. Emil was so clinical on his first goal great pass by WKWK On Emil 2nd goal, he intercepted lazy pass And easily and skillfully beat defender
  15. Georgetown really looks like the class of the Big East Division the Hoyas knocked off Seton Hall today 2-0 this afternoon led 17-2 in shots, 8 to 1 in shots on goal https://guhoyas.com/sports/mens-soccer/stats/2024/seton-hall/boxscore/20683 St. Johns and Providence played to 1-1 tie G' town is 4-1-0 st. johns is 3-1-1 providence is 2-1-2 Seton Hall dropped to 2-2-1
  16. Zips were very dominant in first half. announcers are praising Beto Ydrach I agree strongly with the announcers
  17. Malik did super on goal Left footed shot Into very, very narrow opening of goal
  18. Akron goal victor Gaulmin
  19. Thanks for your great suggestion I pay for all of the regional sports networks on DirectV I am now watching game on channel 664 on my regular Tv thank you
  20. I am glad you can see
  21. so, they have their own network????? so, zips fans have to pay $19.99 to watch one match the big east is a total cluster f*ck......for watching soccer... what an absolute disgrace
  22. Congratulations again to Emil for another well deserved honor Dyson Clapier is #18 on TDS mid season top 100 list Malik Henry is #99 on TDS mid season top 100 list in my slightly biased view, Mitch Budler and Beto Ydrach are both deserving of a spot on the top 100 list. https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college/upperclassmentop100/index.jsp
