Ivy League semifinals today rankings shown as of midnight...thursday night #6 Penn defeated #79 Brown 2-1 on golden goal in 94th minute ranking changes after match Penn moves to #5... Georgetown drops from #5 to 6 at midnight last night...all of the games were done UCLA was #33 and Akron was #34 after the Penn vs. brown game was completed, the RPI rank for UCLA and Akron changed.....(to Akron's benefit) UCLA and Brown....had common opponents.... Akron RPI improved from #34 to #33 UCLA RPI dropped from #33 to #37 the 2nd IVY league semi just finished.... the result was not helpful for Akron #20 Cornell jumped out to a 2-0 lead against #44 Princeton #44 Princeton stormed back....and just won 3-2 on a golden goal at 103:41 Princeton will play Penn on Sunday for Ivy League title Cornell will still get into tournament despite losing tonight Penn will still get into the tournament...even if they don't win on Sunday With Princeton at 44...I thought that they would have to win the IVY league tournament to steal a bid.... RPI just updated....after Princeton win Cornell dropped to #23 in RPI after the loss Princeton jumped all the way from #44 to #32...with the win over high RPI team Princeton win...caused Fordham and Western Michigan...to switch places. Fordham is now 30 and Western Michigan dropped to 31 NC State dropped from 32 to 33 Akron dropped from 33 to 34 -
I can't answer your question.....but one site had interesting info .....on 2 brothers being all americans Louis immigrated with his family from North Macedonia, then Yugoslavia, when he was thirteen years old. His family settled in Akron, Ohio, where he attended Central-Hower High School. After high school, he attended the University of Akron where he played as a forward on the men's soccer team from 1974 to 1977. He and his brother George were top players with the Zips. Both Louie and George earned first team All American honors in 1976. This was the first time in NCAA history that two brothers received first team recognition the same year. Louie then garnered second team honors in 1977.

After a few hours sleep.....let's try to look at RPI in terms of last team in (If the committed goes completely by RPI).... obviously, lots of unknowns...and the RPI positions will change for UC Santa Barbara, High Point, St. Louis and Kansas City ...the teams still playing #28 Charlotte would drop into the 30's if they lose (FIU would steal a bid by winning that league) #26 Vermont would drop into the 30's if they lose (Bryant would steal a bid by winning that league) Would Charlotte and Vermont RPI's drop below Akron if they lose ? I have no idea 😧 I said last night that the last team...was currently #40...which is George Mason let's look at 30 thru 40 #30 Western Michigan - regular season over #31 Fordham - regular season over #32 NC State - regular season over #33 UCLA - Regular season over #34 Akron - Regular season over #35 UNC Greensboro - Regular season over #36 UC Santa Barbara - will play UC Davis for Big West automatic Bid #37 St. Louis - Will play #7 Dayton for Atlantic 10 automatic bid #38 Kansas City - will play #2 Denver for Summit league bid #39 High Point - will play Gardner Webb for Big South Title #40 George Mason I will say that UC Santa Barbara and High Point...both win their automatic spots their RPI will probably jump a little...will they jump over #34 Akron? Not relevant for Akron's at large bid if they both lose, they will probably drop out of top 40...and not be a challenge to Akron for at large bid St. Louis and Kansas City if they both lose to top 10 teams, they will probably see a slight drop in RPI....and will be much less of a threat to Akron's at large bid if they both win, Dayton and Denver get at large bids..and the cut line drops to 38 both teams will jump over Akron in RPI..and Akron drops from 34 to 36. what are currently the last teams in...if RPI is exactly followed (again, zips strong end of season should make them favorable to RPI position (in my biased opinion 😎) last team in.....George Mason at #40 2nd to last team in - #38 Kansas City (if they lose league final) 3rd to last team in - #37 St. Louis (if they lose to Dayton) 4th - #35 UNC-G 5th to last team in - #34 Akron A georgetown win over Providence in league final and Ohio State win over Michigan (UCLA tied Michigan in Big Ten semis)...might help Akron jump UCLA in actual RPI. -
https://guhoyas.com/news/2024/11/14/mens-soccer-godinhos-golden-goal-propels-hoyas-past-akron.aspx very nice quotes by Georgetown head coach Brian Wiese (FYI....Georgetown first 3 non-league games were against current RPI #3 Pitt, #24 Maryland and #35 UNC-Greensboro). They also played another top 20 RPI team - Cornell Head Coach Brian Wiese "With a few injuries coming in that we needed to manage, we used a ton of our roster today. We saw guys step up. Miles Avery came in for Tate (Lampman) when he couldn't go and played fantastic. Aidan Godinho with the goal which was so deserved with the way he has been playing. The list goes on and on seeing guys come in and do the job, especially against a team like Akron. We have the hardest strength of schedule in the country and Akron is far and away the best team we've seen. To find a way to persevere through that was good to see. We're back in the final, and we'll see if we can finish the job."

OK.....more midnight ramblings from me..... Z.I.P. in Hawaii is probably the only one up reading this....... When I did my analysis on early Monday morning.......the cut line for getting into the tournament....was 40... since then, Missouri State was upset...we thought that dropped the cut line to #39 However, the very smart and alert NYCZIP let us know that current #29...Cal could not participate in the NCAA tourney that means that #40 George Mason is currently the last team in...... NYCZIP has done a few posts....where he points out that Akron fans....definitely want Dayton and Vermont and Charlotte to win their league title games Let's look at the key games.......where a team could steal a bid.....and hurt Akron's chances of getting in all rankings are as of midnight ...Friday morning...November 15th Summit League Saturday final #2 Denver vs. #38 Kansas City obviously, zips fans.....want Denver to win that game Coastal Athletic Saturday final #4 Hofstra vs. #76 UNCW a UNCW win would not help the Zips Ivy League - Friday night semifinals #6 Penn vs #79 Brown #20 Cornell vs. #44 Princeton Akron fans do not want Brown or Princeton to win the Ivy League title Big East - Friday night final I don't think that this will affect Akron at large status....but I will list it anyway I think that a Cal Santa Barbara loss...would cause them to drop many spots below Akron I think that UCSB only gets in by winning the league #36 Cal Santa Barbara vs. #69 UC Davis OK...down to 3 leagues....2 played their semis on Wednesday....other played semi on Thursday Finally, let's look at 3 conferences...where NYCZIP has already given us a headsup...on who to root for American East League final on Sunday #26 Vermont vs. #63 Bryant Atlantic 10 final on Sunday #7 Dayton vs. #37 St. Louis I agree with NYCZIP that St. Louis probably only gets in the tournament with a win in the final American Athletic final on Sunday #28 Charlotte vs #61 FIU if all 6 leagues (excluding the Big West) are won by Bid-stealers, the zips at #34....are probably in huge trouble for making the tournament It would help Akron to have Georgetown win the big EAST...as Akron played them twice and Akron did not play Providence Finally, let's look at some other teams currently around Akron's #34 in RPI I have already given my thoughts on #30 Western Michigan and #32 NC State #31 Fordham from the Atlantic 10 they lost in league semis to a very good Dayton team finished the season with a 8-5-5 record Fordham was 4-2-2 in last 8 games 5-3-4 in in last 12 games #35 UNC-Greensboro from the Southern Conference Southern Conference is the 14th ranked league UNC-G lost on PK's in conference semis #33 UCLA from the Big Ten finished their season with 7-5-6 record one of their wins is over Division 2 Westmont...so they are 6-5-6 for NCAA consideration lost in tournament semis on PK's to Michigan their RPI is propped up by #12 strength of schedule and #8 opponent strength of schedule they are being helped greatly by having a 2-1 win over Ohio State and a 0-0 tie with #2 Denver UCLA has a record of 3-2-3 in last 8 games Similar to Akron, they have a few losses to teams out of the top 40 3-1 loss to #89 Cal State Fullerton 1-0 loss to #80 Michigan State (MSU had 5-7-5 record) 4-1 loss to #46 Wisconsin -

I am going to get on my soapbox....... The NCAA soccer committee is supposed to consider strongly....how a team ended the year.... they are supposed to consider the team's last 8 games Let's do 2 comparisons for Akron vs. 2 teams above them in RPI Western Michigan - #30 in RPI currently vs. Akron #34 currently in RPI the two teams met during the season at Western Michigan....2 teams played to a tie Western Michigan - last 4 games of the season 0-0 tie with Bradley....Bradley had a record of 4-7-2 at that time 3-0 loss to Bowling Green.....Bowling Green was #60 in RPI when this week started 2-1 win over 7-10-0 UIC in the MVC conference quarterfinals, WMU lost 2-1 to Evansville (#82 in RPI at the start of the week) WMU did not even make the tournament semis in the MVC...the 7th toughest league.... Akron went 7-0-1 regular season in the Big East....the 5th toughest league... Akron lost in the semis in OT to the current #5 team in RPI in last 12 games, Akron was 10-1-1 ...with only loss coming to high RPI Georgetown If I am on NCAA committee, Akron gets in before Western Michigan (I might be a tad biased 😁)...but the eye test, and the logic favor Akron NC State - #32 currently in RPI vs. Akron #34 currently in RPI with Cal ineligible to get into the tournament, NC State would be the 9th ACC team in the 48 team field Do you take 8 at large teams from the ACC and snub the undefeated regular season champ from the Big East? To be politically correct, I say heck, no. NC State lost in the round of 16 in the ACC tournament let's look at end of the season results for NC State 3-2-3 record in the last 8 games 3-4-3 record in the last 10 games Same strengths for Akron ...10-1-1 in last 12....with one loss to #5 RPI team regular season undefeated Big East champs.... again, If I am on NCAA committee, Akron gets in before the 10th best team in the ACC (9th best team , Cal is not eligible) -

the world's greatest expert....Gaucho Dan has confirmed that Cal at #29 in RPI....can not make the NCAA tournament Gaucho Dan : Clemson hung on to eliminate Cal and set up an ACC final with Wake Forest. Cal finishes with a losing record vs. Division I and is, thus, ineligible for the NCAA Tournament. -

great observation.... they played the Dominican Penguins....and they are a division 2 school https://calbears.com/news/2024/9/16/mens-soccer-bears-thrash-penguins-5-0.aspx -
Akron has been horribly thin all year at outside back.....ever since the Temple game (when James Buebendorf stopped getting playing time). Daragh held his own in the last 35 minutes after Ashton got hurt. When Josh came out of the game in OT, it appeared that midfielder/Forward Stefan Dobrijevic had to come in and play right back....... I hope that all of the injured players....Emil, Ashton and Josh......are healthy for the NCAA tournament. Georgetown is #5 in RPI....and Akron battled them on even terms for 98 minutes this team deserves a spot in the NCAA.

#34 Charlotte def. S. Florida 1-0 in their conference semi Charlotte up to #29 in RPI as of 7:45 on Thursday LIU def. Zip in season opponent...St. Francis 4-1 with Charlotte moving up from #34 to #29, Zips drop from #31 to #32 (as of 7:45) Providence win over #73 St. Johns moves them from 16 to 14 Georgetown had tied Providence during the season Providence win tonight helps Georgetown go from #11 to #10 #23 Wake Forest is pounding #6 (as of Monday morning) Virginia 5-1 at 77 minutes -
Jääskeläinen Field I love it !!!!! I have asked 2 friends to make a prediction......on tonight's game...... both friends....have taken a hard pass...... I will be BOLD !!!!.....and possibly show my brilliance...or more likely my naivete...and ignorance I know that the last game was 1-0. I know that Georgetown has shutout their opponents in 11 out of 18 games.... My prediction...... With a wet field, there will be players slipping...... It will be harder for a GK to control the ball on shots....... The score will be surprisingly high scoring....it will be 2-2 after 90 minutes @MDZip will leave the stadium happy as the Zips score in the first overtime......as Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal scores a rebound goal after the GK has not handled a hard shot by Dyson Clapier.

Good observation on Fordham....and good question. @fknbuflobo has often mentioned how Gaucho Dan is an absolute guru about RPI. It is safe to say that Gaucho Dan knows 1,000 times more about RPI than I do. Many rabid and knowledgeable college soccer fans post on a blog called Big Soccer college forum (I do not have an ID on that forum and do not post). Gaucho Dan earlier this week did a deep dive into RPI on big soccer college forum. After his initial post, another poster asked Gaucho Dan ( I added "of the tournament "..in brackets to give question some context.) I have attached a link below to Gaucho Dan deep dive Question by user: Could Akron fall out (of the tournament) with a semifinal loss (to Georgetown)? as I said , Gaucho Dan understands much better than I do....how Strength of schedule (SOS) and Opponent Strength of Schedule (OSS) impact RPI. Gaucho Dan answer to question on Akron: Akron's RPI will not suffer with a semifinal loss to Georgetown. Notice the projected SOS and OSS numbers on Akron's team page improve with the addition of G'town: that's 75% of the RPI formula. TennZip....I have never been to Akron's team page on Gaucho Dan's live rankings to look at Projected SOS and OSS numbers but I trust and like what Gaucho Dan is saying. Another important thing to remember about RPI......when it comes to tournament games A win by Akron in regular time.....or in sudden death overtime....counts as a win in the regular season record....and in RPI calculation Conversely, a loss by Akron in Regular time .....or in suddent death overtime.....counts as a loss in the regular season record and in RPI calculation Akron's current record is 11-3-4. if Georgetown and Akron are tied after 110 minutes, Akron's record after the game will be 11-3-5......no matter who wins on PK's @fknbuflobo ; @Zip_ME87 @YipaZip - you 3 are probably more knowledgeable than I am...about RPI Please correct me if the 2 statements below are wrong.... if Akron wins on PK's , they will not move up as much in RPI...as they would with a win in the first 90 minutes or 109 minutes Conversely, if Georgetown were to win on PK's, Akron would do much better than a straight loss in regulation as the record would reflect a tie against a high RPI team link to Big Soccer Deep Dive https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/rpi-deep-dive-in-final-week-of-season.2133272/ link to Gaucho Dan live RPI rankings https://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/RPI Rank -

Wednesday night tournament games....and impact on NCAA At large bids...and RPI Sunbelt Conference The two high ranked teams will meet in the conference final #15 RPI West Virginia defeated #63 Kentucky 2-1 #13 RPI Marshall won 1-0 against #64 James Madison Missouri Valley Conference The RPI cut line for at large dropped by 1.....tonight as #7 Missouri State will not get the MVC automatic bid #82 Evansville upset #7 Missouri State 1-0 #60 Bowling Green defeated #40 Drake 1-0 Atlantic 10 #11 Dayton won 2-0 against #29 Fordham #49 St. Louis defeated #38 George Mason 2-1 George Mason and Drake were the last 2 at large teams making the cut when I posted an update early Monday morning. with their semifinal losses tonight, they are both probably done for an at large bid Dayton will get a spot in the tournament whether they win or lose against St. Louis. you will see below...that St. Louis jumped into the mid 30's with tonight's win american East #28 Vermont avoided a huge upset with a 2-1 double overtime win over #84 UMBC #62 Bryant and #43 New Hampshire were tied 0-0 after 110 minutes Bryant advanced to the final on PK's there were a few games on Monday and Tuesday..that had a mild impact on the RPI's from early Monday morning NC State was 31 on early Morning....Akron was 32 on early Morning when I looked at RPI's after Monday and Tuesday games...Akron was 31...and NC State was 32 Notable changes after tonight's games involving ranked teams tonight Dayton RPI improved from 11.....up to #6 Missouri State dropped from #7 to #10 With Dayton jumping in the rating, Georgetown dropped from #10 to #11 Marshall improved to #12 in RPI West Virginia improved to #14 in RPI Vermont improved from #28 to #26 Despite the loss, Fordham stayed at #29...after facing high RPI Dayton Western Michigan is still at 30 after tonight's game...and Akron is still at #31 ST. Louis jumped from #49 to #35 after tonight's semifinal win With their loss tonight, George Mason dropped from #38 to #40 Drake dropped from 40 to #43 New Hampshire PK loss saw them drop only spot...now at #44 Bowling Green improved from #60 to #50 In their last games, Evansville has upset Western Michigan and Missouri State their win tonight jumped Evansville from #82 to #57 -

Excellent comments by @NYC ZIPand @zippy-claws Victor Gaulmin really grew in confidence and quality of play as he got more time.....gelling with the front 3. I think that the coaching staff adjustment to insert Josh Hardin as the right back...and move Malik Henry to right winger was the key coaching move of the season. Josh Hardin was not a starter in any of the first 4 games. 11 minutes in game 1. 53 minutes in game 2. 39 minutes in game 3. Josh had red card against WMU...so no minutes against Cleveland State (as NYCZIP pointed out, Beto also missed that game). Cleveland State was the game where the back line gave up several soft goals. Josh Hardin started against VCU and that was an excellent game. For some reason against IU-Indy, Ashton Kamdem only played 40 minutes with Daragh Reilly playing 43 minutes. Ashton and Josh have been an excellent pair as outside backs. Malik has also shown that he can be an excellent defender when Josh needs a break. However, Malik has been an absolute handful for other teams to handle after he was moved to Right winger. To me, an underrated change during the season is that Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal also grew in confidence during the season....and did a much better job running forward into the box. Having WKWK in the box gave the zips more options and opened more space for Emil to do his magical goal scoring.

I thought that it would be good ....to know which Georgetown players ...to watch out for You can see in the news release below that they had 3 Hoyas make the first team and they had 4 players selected to the 3rd team. Defender Tate Lampman was named freshman of the year and was selected to 3rd team all league. Defender Maximus Jennings was selected to the first team Midfielder Matthew Van Horn leads the Hoyas in points with 15 (6 goals and 3 assists) Van Horn was one of 3 Hoyas selected to the Big East First team Zach Zengue was their 3rd first team selection. The Big East news release shows him as a forward. Most of the Georgetown box scores list him as a midfielder Zengue was tied for 2nd in points with 11 (3 goals and 5 assists) Forward Mitchell Baker was not selected to any of the Big East teams. Baker is tied for 2nd in points with 11 (4 goals and 3 assists) I went back to the Akron vs. Georgetown box score on September 28th to see who took the majority of shots for Georgetown in that game. Most of us remember that Georgetown led Akron in shots in that game (Malik made his shot count 😎)....17-8 what I was amazed to see.....was that Georgetown had 14 different players take shots in that game. Mitchell Baker took 3 ...Zach Zengue took 2 and 12 different players had 1 shot apiece. I also looked at the Akron-Georgetown box score and compared it to their last regular season game against St. John's and their tournament game against Creighton ...to see if they had any players that started in September...but did not start in tournament game against Creighton. 3rd team Big East selection Joe Buck started and played 78 minutes against Akron. he started and played 74 minutes in last regular season game against St. Johns Joe Buck did not start against Creighton and he did not play at all. the Hoya news release says that Joe Buck started in all 17 games that he played 1st team Big East selection Matthew Van Horn is their leading points guy...but it appears that he does not ever play a full game for them Van Horn started and played 54 minutes against Akron. He started and played 55 minutes against St. John's Against Creighton, Van Horn did not start. Ended up playing about half the game...46 minutes their news release says that Van Horn started 13 out of their 18 games. Georgetown used 20 players when they lost 1-0 to Akron when Georgetown beat Creighton 1-0 , they used 19 players There is a lot of good info on their players in the Hoyas press release. The Info on Maximus Jennings really impressed me. The Georgetown team shutout their opponent in 11 out of their 18 games. Maximus Jennings First Team All-BIG EAST Jennings has started all 18 games he has appeared in and has one goal for two points on the season. On defense, the team captain is part of a backline that has posted 11 shutouts for a .611 shutout percentage which ranks the squad second in the nation and first in the BIG EAST Conference. Jennings was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on both 9/3 and 10/14 and earned a nod to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on 10/7. This is his first-career postseason award on the Hilltop. He was a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection. https://guhoyas.com/news/2024/11/12/mens-soccer-lampman-honored-as-seven-hoyas-earn-postseason-awards.aspx

@NYC ZIP ...so impressed by the stats that you mention in bold above.... I would have no clue....where to find great info....like that....... since I am retired, I did a brute force exercise (going to teams individual web sites !!!) this afternoon I could not find an NCAA site that showed current leaders in Points We all know that Emil is much more than just a scorer..... He is very unselfish and makes great passes Emil always knows where he is on the field ...and is known for making one touch passes to open teammates Emil has 22 goals and 7 assists...51 points Alex Harris from Cornell is #2 in goals....he has 16 goals and 5 assists....37 points Missouri State is currently #7 in RPI.... you will see below....that I will list points leaders for the top 8 RPI teams in the nation Jesus Barea of Missouri State is currently #3 in goals he has 15 goals and 3 assists...33 points You saw on the stat links that Owen Smith of Western Michigan leads the nation in assists with 15 assists Owen Smith has 4 goals....so he currently has 23 points WMU regular season is over NYCZIP shows above that players that make it to the college cup....are much more likely to win the Hermann Trophy Therefore, I decided to look at the top 8 teams currently in RPI I covered Missouri State (#7) and Jesus Barea...above Ohio State has had a tremendous year and they deserve to be ranked #1 Michael Adekokun gets credit for being their best player Adekokun has 8 goals and 11 assists ...27 points I would be very surprised if Michael Adekokun does not end up being one of the 3 finalists for the award. Adekokun and Emil are both great soccer players. Denver is currently #2 in RPI when top drawer soccer did their mid season top 100, they had Emil at #2 and Sam Bassett of Denver at #1 Bassett has 7 goals and 10 assists...24 points Pitt is currently #3 in RPI their regular season is over Luis Sahmkow is their points leader....with 21 (9 goals and 3 assists) Hofstra is currently #4 in RPI they have 2 players battling to be their points leader Laurie Goddard has 9 goals and 5 assists (23 points) Jacob Woznicki has 8 goals and 5 assists (21 points) Jacob Woznick seems to get a tremendous amount of respect nationally Penn is currently #5 in RPI Stas Korzeniowski is their points leader with 26 (12 goals and 2 assists) Virginia rocketed up to #6 in RPI after upsetting Pitt in the ACC tourney quarterfinals Virginia is a strange team....as their points leader only has 12 points Nick Dang 6 goals and no assists In the link that I posted, you probably noticed that Duke is the nation's leader in goals per game Duke is currently #8 in RPI Duke has an impressive 3 players with 20 points or more Ulfur Bjornsson, has 29 points (13 goals and 3 assists) Adam Luckhurts has 24 points (11 goals and 2 assists) Drew Kerr has 20 points (5 goals and 10 assists) when I have watched ACC soccer on the ACC network....the announcers rave the most about Drew Kerr Obviously, this brute force "Hermann Trophy" analysis...ignores great defenders and great goalkeepers speaking of defenders...when they name the 15 Hermann Trophy semifinalists in mid November, I know that I am biased...but I think that Beto Ydrach deserves to be considered for that elite group of 15 semifinalists.
