comments from Coach Embick: "When you look at the score you feel like there are no positives," said Akron head coach Jared Embick. "But I do think we can take away some things from this; UCLA is a great team and tonight like all good teams, they were ruthless." "We created many chances, but did not convert them in key moments. If we score, I think it changes the game. Even after halftime, we had a great 10 minute spell and almost scored. When we gave up the third goal we put our head down and they made us pay. We have to regroup, there is a lot of soccer left. We need to come back to our fans and get two wins against a pair of undefeated teams."

The field did indeed look small....in person Very strange set up....the soccer field is on top of a two story parking structure. You park in the lot and then walk upstairs to see the game. That being said, San Diego State was much quicker to the ball and had many more good opportunities. The zips will learn from this.

Thanks, the zips will be without Victor and Stuart....so each team is missing star(s)

Did Abu Danladi play against Duke?

San Diego state really took control late in the half

http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/mens-weekend-preview:-sept-2-5_aid39847 not surprisingly, Akron-UCLA is listed as one of the best games this weekend.....and it would be OK with this zip fan if Abu Danladi is not able to return this weekend from his injury. Georgetown vs. Maryland should be an interesting result to see.

another top 25 team to start off the tough 2 game road trip I did not realize that San diego State plays in the pac-12 for soccer. We all remember that UCLA scored 4 goals against akron in early November last year (Richie and Danilo did not play in that game). 2 weeks after UCLA and Akron played....San Diego State defeated UCLA 1-0 on Nov. 16, 2015. I am sure that Coach Embick and the seniors on this team....will have the Zips ready for another very tough team on Friday night http://www.goaztecs.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/083016aaa.html

that is fantastic for a new program. The south Carolina/clemson mens soccer game last Friday drew 6,900. Interesting attendance numbers for UCLA. Their soccer facility has a capacity of 11,700, I was very surprised to see that last week's UCLA-Maryland game was moved to the Stub Hub Center. Attendance at the Stub Hub Center was 1,134. UCLA hosted Cal State Fullerton this past Monday at Drake Stadium (their stadium with 11,700 capacity. Attendance was 746. Will be interesting to see the attendance for the Akron-UCLA game on Labor Day.

We may see Seattle again deep in the post season. Very talented team. All kinds of credit to them for playing up and down the field soccer against the Zips. I also think that Coach Embick and his staff deserve a great deal of credit for making adjustments at half time. Like several others, I sure do not think that Adam was awfully quiet.. He threaded several passes thru heavy traffic. Adam truly has a special vision on what will work on the field. For both games, I tried to watch the action but I also tried to focus on Adam and Victor. They both were all over the field on defense and both are so calm(while being decisive) in making passes and advancing the ball up the field. Victor and Adam's talent and intense competitive fire are going to lead this team to a great season . I thought that both Adam and Victor were outstanding in both games. With all of the surgeries that he has endured, very happy for Tyler Sanda to be the hero. Great student athlete.

If I remember correctly, Seattle shut out a very high powered UCLA team last year to advance in the NCAA tournament and they also have 2 pre season all americans on their team. Great credit to Coach Embick for starting the season with 2 top ten teams.
