  1. I think the NSCAA coaches poll only includes games thru Sunday....so we don't see the benefit of this win until next week http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-national-rankings/men st. louis is #14 in top drawer soccer weekly poll....so the zips have another chance for a win that will help them greatly in the RPI
  2. a smile is appropriate....bring on the undefeated St. Louis team. St. Louis defeated Tulsa in their first game...and Tulsa tied #2 Virginia friday night in charlottesville. Billikens will be tough....but these zips deserve to celebrate an incredibly successful road weekend
  3. this is torture listening on the radio... crowd of 4,003
  4. richie laryea....man of the match 3-1 zips yes!!!!
  5. in person, the long kicks were mind numbingly accurate on that day. The bounces went ODU's way that day but the zips kept on fighting. I like the resolve of these zips.
  6. Tyler Sanda in the game for Pau Belana. Tyler had a good spring. Hope he can do well. Akron will be ready the next time that they face an ODU type strategy. Good adjustments by the coaching staff and the players this weekend.
  7. richie goal 2-0
  8. thanks for the update on Sean. I did not get the radio broadcast until 5 minutes in and wondered why Stuart had replaced him at 3 minute mark. Sean has really been playing well. I hope he is OK
  9. assist by Richie.... Radio announcers have been very complimentary of Victor and Richie
  10. adam scores zips 1 maryland 0 23 minutes in
  11. yes, it has started...about 12 minutes into the game maryland announcers have not correctly pronounced an Akron player's name yet
  12. https://rabble.tv/broadcast/55ee15eeae19c76a22c44878/view#.Ve4Wl0OW7zU.twitter you can listen to game on maryland radio (link above).....if you did not pay for Big ten video
  13. ucla went 0-2 on their brutal road swing....and they were the #1 ranked team in the country makes the zips win at Georgetown even more impressive FINAL: #UCLA (1-2) falls to Georgetown (1-2-1), 3-1, on the road in Washington DC.
  14. pray tell...where is the bar set? a NCAA championship every year? a 25-0-0 regular season every year?
  15. A-zip , thanks for traveling to be at both tough road games. I greatly admire Coach Embick for giving the zips the opportunity to play in front of 8,000 fans against one of the four all time great college soccer programs. Akron football is a 31.5 point underdog at Oklahoma. I love that Akron futbol is not a gigantic underdog when they play the top teams and I love that Coach Embick and his staff have assembled a team that can go into Georgetown and beat a final four team from last year on their home field. I like this team. Adam and Brad will be good leaders for this team. I love the fieriness and competitiveness of Victor and Richie. Sean Sepe, Robby Dambrot, Brad Ruhaak and so many others have improved tremendously over the past 1-2 years. This is a very good , hard working team with high character student athletes. Go, zips !!!
  16. http://www.guhoyas.com/sports/m-soccer/recaps/090415aaa.html writeup from Georgetown site....interesting comments on Adam's PK
  17. Maryland just went up 1-0 on the #1 ranked team. crowd of 8,449 in college park.... will be a great environment for the zips to play in on Monday night
  18. Great, great win on the road...... Very happy for Coach Embick and the entire team. I know that there were going to be many zips nation posters at the game. I am anxious to hear their thoughts. To shut out a high powered Georgetown team....Andrew, Brad, Niko, Nate, Robby, Victor and Pau had to be tremendous. Looking forward to seeing Adam's goal on the zips web site. Excellent win
  19. Adam scores at 62 minute mark very proud of this high character team .....to have the lead at the 67 minute mark .....playing in a tough environment at a final four caliber team hold on, zips....
  20. I wish I could make it to DC and College Park this weekend to see the zips battle 2 very good teams....but my work schedule does not permit I do watching high quality college soccer....so I look forward to watching UCLA and Maryland on the Big Ten Network Friday night. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/mens-college-preview:-sept-4-7_aid37220
  21. Georgetown was preseason #3 but had tough opening weekend. they tied florida gulf coast 0-0 on Friday night they could not play s. florida last night due to weather s. florida and Georgetown played this morning and s. florida won 2-0 Maryland had a good weekend...They tied #7 Notre Dame on neutral field(Bloomington) and defeated St. Johns 4-0 yesterday. Notre Dame yesterday defeated the Hoosiers at Bllomington. On Friday, the zips will play Georgetown while Maryland is playing UCLA. sunday, the Hoyas host the bruins and the terps host our team. This tough schedule will really help the zips.
  22. http://www.odusports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=210303889&DB_OEM_ID=31100 I agree with the ODU coach...they executed their game plan to a "T" and the Akron zips are going to win a lot of games this year.
  23. Fernando Pina had another shutout today as Coastal Carolina defeated VCU 2-0. At halftime tonight, I talked with an ODU season ticket holder. He said that Coastal Carolina is one of the best soccer teams that he has seen play at Old Dominion. The ODU ticket holder felt that Coastal Carolina was severely under-ranked at pre-season #21.
  24. This was one game early in the season. Old Dominion plays a different brand of soccer than Akron. ODU never tried to work the ball up the field. Their goalie had a strong leg and would punt the ball 2/3rds to 3/4ths up the field. ODU would group big strong guys where the ball was coming down and those guys would try to direct the ball to their 5'7 super speedy guy. The guy that scored 3 was as fast and elusive as anyone that I have seen in college soccer. ODU was super aggressive on defense with a fair amount of pushing and grabbing. Akron really struggled to get the ball past the ODU 40 yard line. The players were frustrated but they did not quit. Adam was still making good passes late in the game. Victor was still battling for the ball at midfield. Richie and Sean were still trying to make runs. Coach Embick moved Andrew to an outside back midway thru the first half to try to change the momentum. As ME87 said, the best thing to do is learn from the clunker and move on. Soccer can be a cruel game and the zips had some bad bounces early in the 2nd half and it got out of hand. The next time, they play a team that advances the ball completely in the air, the zips will have learned from the Old Dominion game. I would much rather have this type of game in the 2nd match of the year rather than it occurring in the NCAA tourney. I expect this team to come out with fire in their belly in their next game against Georgetown. This team has too much talent and too many players with great character. This team is still going to have a very good year.
  25. Thanks much for the e-mail...with the formation.
