Congratulations to former Zip Shaun Docking for an incredible coaching career at Coastal Carolina. Long time Zips soccer fans will remember that Shaun Docking was a junior (key contributor) on the outstanding zip team that lost in the 1986 NCAA final. Great player, great coaches. Best wishes for a happy and successful post coaching career. Darn good ZIP !!! https://www.wmbfnews.com/2025/08/13/i-have-nothing-fondness-great-memories-long-time-ccu-coach-retires/

2025 Rankings and RPI thread
TennZip replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
A heads up..... I am not on twitter....so I am not likely to see this news first .... last year, the regular soccer season started on Thursday August 22nd last year, the Big East mens soccer coaches poll was released on Monday August 19th. With this years schedule starting on Thursday August 21, I would expect that the Big East mens soccer coaches poll will be released on Monday August 18th. I expect that Georgetown will be the pre season favorite to win the Big East. -
Every coach in the MAC voted ...that Akron would finish in last place. https://getsomemaction.com/news/2025/8/11/womens-soccer-western-michigan-selected-as-favorite-in-mac-preseason-coaches-poll.aspx

https://collegesoccernews.com/college-soccer-news-mens-soccer-preseason-top-25-poll-marshall-takes-top-spot-going-into-week-1/ College soccer news has issued a pre season top 25.... they say that they have coaches voting in their poll. I am going from memory...but I will try to post teams from the zips schedule...that are ranked 2. Vermont 9. Ohio State 11. West Virginia 20. Western Michigan 23. Cornell Akron, of course, could meet #8 Georgetown in Big East tourney. Providence also received votes in the poll (another possibility for conference tourney) I am really surprised that St. Louis is not ranked as they had strong recruiting class. -

This article has no rankings...but top drawer soccer (TDS) ...did a Big East preview https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/article/?categoryId=21&articleId=54910&articleTitle=mens-a10-big-east-ivy-league-preview Big East Akron joining has done wonders for the strength of the Big East, adding another storied team to a conference full of legacy programs. The Zips and Georgetown will likely fight for supremacy, while Providence looks to continue its rise as an elite program. St. John’s and Connecticut, two programs desperate to reach the highs of the late 90s and early 2000s, are among the others to look out for this season. Top Players to Watch: Mitch Budler, Akron(m) (Goalkeeper of the Year) Top Freshmen to Watch: Braxton Hayes, Akron(m) (No. 116 Ranked TDS Class of 2025) -
Here is an article from an Toronto FC fan site https://wakingthered.com/2025/08/10/20736/toronto-fc-snatch-draw-in-philadelphia-in-djordje-mihailovic-debut/ I like one of the comments below the article The good news was Henry. He changed the match with three or four impressively good passes, including the assistance. He is very fast and anxious to play.

What an absolutely sensational debut for Malik Henry so very happy for the young man what a great pass

Nice to see Nathan, Ashton and Conor promoting the zips We all know that the Athletic department under Charles the egotist....did nothing to promote soccer. Here's hoping that Dr. Goodrich can have zips marketing department begin to promote the best Zips athletic team on campus... Go Zips MSOC !!! -
Who's ready for some Zips soccer? Please note.....the 6 pm start time..... I can confidently say that I have absolutely no idea.....who will be in the starting 11 on Saturday night tri-Captain Mitch Budler at GK ; Tri-Captain Matt Dreas at HMF ; and Ashton Kamdem at one of the fullback spots..... the 8 other spots ????

Beto was the highest rated riverhound in the game...despite being clobbered by a Rhode Island vicious elbow during the game. https://pittsburghsoccernow.com/2025/08/03/takeaways-and-player-grades-riverhounds-forwards-awaken-with-quality-goals-to-turn-proper-heavyweight-bout-with-rhode-island-fc-into-decisive-win/ Jacquesson was on the end of an exquisite diagonal ball from Beto Ydrach. “It was a very good ball from Beto (Ydrach),” Jacquesson said. In a moment that was emblematic of physical nature of the match, Rhode Island’s JJ Williams was sent off in the 68th minute for delivering a vicious elbow, which floored Hounds’ defender Beto Ydrach right on the sideline by the bench. 16Beto Ydrach DF – 8.5 — brilliant assist but equally strong defensively throughout the night, especially in getting into good positions to thwart or limit RIFC’s counters

https://www.instagram.com/p/DM8cKd0JBCh/?img_index=1 there are 10 really good photos on the Zips instagram page.... Photos were taken on media day my favorite photo is the 6th photo.....(which shows the tri-captains for this year's team) As NYC ZIP documented on July 15, there are 15 zips returning from last fall.....and 6 zips that joined the team in January 2025 The 10th photo is a team photo. I think that I count 30 zips in the photo. Hopefully, we will see a press release on Tuesday or Wednesday...that will tell us about the talented new additions to the team. As I have stated in the past, I believe that Jared and staff can begin coaching the team on Wednesday August 6. Go, Zips !!!! Looking forward.........to reading posts this Saturday night talking about Remi, Nate, Caleb and others scoring goals against the Bonnies 5 days away from Zips soccer....😁

Top Drawer soccer(TDS) released today...their July recruiting rankings for Fall 2025. It is a premium article...so you will probably only be able to see the top 5 teams that they have rated. https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer-articles/2025-mens-di-recruiting-rankings:-july_aid54877 I never put much stock in their recruiting ratings....because 1) TDS only has 2 or 3 employees so it is impossible for them to be aware of every talented high school player, every international player and every college transfer.....and most importantly - 2) they can't accurately rate Akron because Akron has not yet released their fall signing class. TDS is not aware of the May transfer windown players that the Zips are bringing in. They are also not aware of any freshman joining the team from Europe. UCLA #1 ; Portland #2 ; North Carolina #4 and Maryland #5 in recruiting rankings...are not included in the top 25 preseason ranking done by the United Soccer coaches. Stanford at #3 in the recruiting rankings...is the only top 5 recruiting school ranked in the pre season team rankings. TDS has Akron ranked at #43....Again, I think that Akron is under ranked.....as the Akron new player announcement will includes players that TDS does not know about....and ZNO posters (like us) do not know about. Hopefully, we have some good transfers coming in and some freshman internationals. Jared and his coaches (unless the rules have changed) can begin coaching the players 15 days before the regular season opener, With the opener at VCU on Aug. 21, that would mean that Jared and team can begin active coaching on August 6. I would anticipate that the new Zips fall player announcement will come on August 5 or August 6. 43. Akron (39) Commitments: M Braxton Hayes (Nashville SC – No. 116), GK Gavin Crane (Cleveland Force), F Aljaz Dodig (Celje), M Logan LaMaina (Sporting Athletic), D Jose Pedro (Rio Ave), D Jamai Royer (Vaughan SC) Transfers: M Jack Sullivan (Saint Louis), M Abdi Bahur (East Tennessee Sate), M Tyler Morck (St. John’s), D Freddy Kossehasse (Iowa Western Community College) Georgetown is the highest rated big east team....in the recruting rankings 8. Georgetown (8) Commitments: F Charlie Rosenthal (LAFC – No. 44), M/D Timothy Logan (New York Red Bulls – No. 97), M/F Casey Milliken (NEFC – No. 124), D William Caldwell (Toronto FC), M Loukas Maroutsis (AEK Athens), M Noah Satriano (Baltimore Armour), GK Dimy Toruba (Inter Miami CF) Transfers: D Jackson Lindimore (Indiana) There are several programs staking a strong claim on this last spot. Georgetown holds the edge as the attacking reinforcements of Rosenthal and Milliken offer high-level promise. Lindimore is a big-time add via the transfer portal. Maroutsis is a late addition, joining from a club in Greece. Other teams that are included in the recruiting rankings St. Louis is #9 in the recruiting rankings. They have signed 4 freshman that are ranked in the top 200 incoming domestic freshamen (Akron has 1...Braxton Hayes) not on Akron's schedule....Pittsburgh was #19 in the June recruits/transfer rankings. Pitt jumped to #12 in July rankings due to adding Josh Hardin from Akron. Ohio State is #19 West Virginia is #37 Cornell is #42 -

When you look at the preseason 2025 rankings, you can see that they are identical to the Final Dec. 16, 2024 rankings The United soccer coaches put no thought or research into the pre season rankings. They just started with the end of year 2024 rankings. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/united-soccer-coaches -
Congratulations to SHOOKY !!! MLS Next Pro player of the week https://www.chicagofirefc.com/two/news/chicago-fire-fc-ii-named-mls-next-pro-team-of-matchweek-20

For the 2nd straight game, there are 6 or 7 paragraphs written about the unselfishness and talent of Richie Laryea https://www.tfcrepublic.ca/july-20-toronto-fc-nashville-sc/ comments from their coach "I thought he was great. I thought he was very good. Again, Richie's understanding of what's dangerous, what's not, when to close, when to close hard, when to be patient, I think all of that [was good]. I knew Richie [when] he first came to TFC in 2019, and he was young and naïve then, and I feel like he's a completely different person now," Robin Fraser said. "He is a seasoned pro who we've obviously asked him to play in a number of different positions in the last couple of games, and he just does what's asked of him because it's what the team needs. So, I thought he put in a really incredible shift."
