TennZip replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Kentucky is not 14-4 Kentucky has only lost one game they are 14-1...and have 4 ties....have wins over ACC powers Notre Dame and Louisville and a tie with Marshall and let's worry...about Santa Clara right now Santa Clara beat Portland 3-1....just a few days removed from Portland hammering MAC champ Northern Ilinois 4-0 I like the zips to take care of business at First Energy stadium...but this team needs to focus....on Santa Clara 110% right now -

they did vary somewhat....from RPI...when it came to seeding Hofstra was #10 in RPI they were not seeded in the top 16 Penn State was #21 in final RPI the nittanies got a 12 seed Hofstra , if they win first game....has to play 12 seed Penn State so, you could make an argument....that NCAA put Hofstra in as 21st best team Missouri State was #16 in final RPI they played in a horrible, awful league committee did not give them a 16 seed Missouri State has a home game against Creighton Creighton was #26 in final rpi...and has to go on the road Creighton was 8-7-2 and was rated too highly in RPI If Missouri State wins, they have to go play at #6 Tulsa... you can make argument that the committee felt that Missouri State is the 27th best team in the field Missouri State was 17-1-0...their one loss was 3-0 to Tulsa FIU was 18 in final RPI...they got a 13 seed Wake Forest was #34 in final rpi they got a home game and face low RPI Mercer If Wake wins, they face #13 seed FIU you could say that Wake is considered to be the 20th best team in tourney Louisville was #33 in final RPI the NCAA committee gave them a tremendous amount of respect they get to host and play Bowling Green...probably the last at large team in tourney If Louisville wins, they play #15 Indiana.... so, they could be considered the #18 team overall Grand Canyon was #12 in final RPI they did not get a top 16 seed if they win, they have to go to #8 Clemson you could argue....that they were considered #25 in tourney Undefeated St. Louis was #14 in final RPI they got a 10 seed West Virginia was #19 in final RPI they got an 11 seed I think that might be some positive karma....from the MAC and West Virginia absolutely getting hosed last year Charlotte got an at large bid last year...despite West Virginia beating Charlotte 3-0 at Charlotte and WVA also had a win last year over Marshall Personally, I think that Louisville and Wake Forest were treated much too kindly by the committee.... but I think that the committee got things right with Missouri State and Grand Canyon.... I also think that Penn State deserved to be a top 16 seed...despite being 21 in the RPI

Bowling Green - WOW.....they were selected over Michigan and Stanford...!!! the cutoff line for RPI was #37..... NCAA committee did not choose #37 Loyola Marymount they passed on #39 Michigan ; #40 Rhode Island ; #42 Cornell ; #43 and #44 Elon and Northeastern ; #45 Stanford ; #46 VCU ; #48 Central Arkansas.... and they selected #49 Bowling Green as the last at large team in the NCAA

I will go out on a limb...and probably show that I am awful at predictions.... Akron gets in...and gets a home game Michigan will get in and play at Akron Winner of that game will have to play at Notre Dame go, zips 2nd guess....Akron gets in....but NCAA treats them poorly Akron gets sent to play at Louisville in first round Winner has to go play at Kentucky

http://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/Tournament Projection I agree very much with you .....that it would take an absolute royal screw job by the NCAA for the zips not to get in. If you look at Gaucho Dan's tournament projections (strictly by RPI), the zips are the 17th ranked at large team out of 25. For the Zips not to get in, the NCAA committee would have to embarrass themselves by taking at least 9 teams with a lower RPI than AKRON. As SBZipfan points out, the zips have some impressive results....win over regular season ACC champ Pitt, win over Big Ten regular season and tournament champ Penn State and ties against two top 25 teams...West Virginia and Indiana last 4 teams in..according to Gaucho Dan...34. Wake Forest ; 35. Charlotte ; 36. Georgia State and 37. Loyola Marymount we all know that the NCAA loves their big conferences....I will be shocked if #38 Michigan does not get in....the Big Ten will go nuts if they only get 3 in the tourney let's look at the conference breakdown of the 25 at large teams...projected by Gaucho Dan ACC - 7 Duke, Clemson, Pitt, North Carolina, VA Tech, Louisville and Wake Forest Big East - 4 Providence, Creighton, Villanova and St. Johns Conference USA - 3 Marshall, FIU and Charlotte Mid American Conference - 3 West Virginia, Akron and Georgia State Big Ten - 2 Indiana, Maryland PAC 12 -2 Washington, UCLA West Coast Conference - 2 Portland, Loyola Marymount American East - 1 #11 New Hampshire WAC - 1 #12 Grand Canyon I am sure that the PAC 12 guys on the committee will want their league to have more teams than the MAC....or conference USA I would not be shocked to see Michigan and Stanford make the field...with GA State, Loyola Marymount or Charlotte...most likely to just miss

Missouri State wins 3-0 to make the NVC a one team league first upset of the day....as Vermont (#50 at start of the day) upsets New Hampshire (#10 at start of the day) 1-0 to get American East automatic bid congrats to the catamounts...gaucho dan shows Vermont jumping to 30...and UNH only droppong to 11 New Hampshire drops to 16-1-2 New Hampshire has non league wins over Providence 2-1 and Michigan 1-0....New Hampshire is a quality team Vermont had tied them 1-1 in regular season Grand Canyon leads Seattle 1-0 at half time... if the day ends with only 1 upset ......in the 7 leagues that I high lighted, that is a good day
-
a few upsets avoided Hofstra beats Elon 3-2 ....so the Colonial should be a one team league Tulsa beats UCF 2-1 to make the AAC a one team league St. Lois defeats Duquesne 2-1.... let's go, Kentucky !!! in games at halftime Missouri State is in good shape as they lead 4-13-2 Evansville 2-0 at half time New Hampshire and Vermont 0-0 at half

Penn State win would help the zips and hurt Creighton. Creighton's signature non league win is over Indiana. Penn State winning the tourney...would mean that both the zips and West Virginia would have wins over ACC regular season champ Pitt and wins over regular season and tournament Big Ten champ Penn State. That would be great for MAC teams.

League champs.....and automatic qualifiers and today's finals 8 teams known as of this morning 15 finals today PAC 12 league winner - #2 Oregon State Ivy League - #58 Princeton West Coast Conference - #55 Santa Clara League winners Atlantic Sun - #39 Lipscomb defeated #42 Central Arkansas Big West - #86 Cal Santa Barbara def. #128 Cal Irvine Horizon - #85 Oakland def. #109 Cleveland State Patriot - #81 Loyola Maryland def. #110 American Summit - #78 Denver won a shoot out against #76 Oral Roberts ACC final - 4) Duke vs. #11 Notre Dame Atlantic 10 final - #17 St. Louis vs. #84 Duquesne Conference USA final - #9 Kentucky vs. #82 Florida Atlantic Missouri Valley final - #14 Missouri State vs. #143 Evansville WAC final - #13 Grand Canyon vs. #36 Seattle American Athletic final - #6 Tulsa vs.#60 UCF Big East final - #3 Georgetown vs. #15 Providence Big Ten Final - #12 Indiana vs. #25 Penn State MAC final - #27 Northern Illinois vs. #34 Georgia State Colonial final - #10 Hofstra vs. #44 Elon Metro Atlantic final - #61 Marist vs. #121 Rider American East - #8 New Hampshire vs. #50 Vermont Big South - #51 Campbell vs. #124 High Point Southern conference final - #54 Belmont vs. #112 Mercer Northeast Conference final - #92 LIU vs. #118 St. Francis Brooklyn I bold highlighted 7 leagues where an upset could vault a team into the tournament ....and reduce the number of at large teams below the zips I believe that the MAC final.....will be at 1 pm eastern time. Every one will have different opinions. I am strongly rooting for NIU to win the final. IF GSU wins, I think that NIU will still get an at large bid....as they were regular season champs....and would have lost in the conference tournament finals. As of this morning, West Virginia is 19 in RPI and Akron is 26. If GSU wins and if NIU gets an at large bid, the MAC would need to have 4 teams in the tourney for both Akron and West Virginia to get in. If GSU loses, I do not think that they will get in the tourney. We have all seen in past years...how the committee loves the power 5 conferences I am fully confident that the committee will give 7 at large bids to the ACC and 4 at large bids to the Big East ACC - 1. Duke/Notre Dame loser other 6 -5) Pitt ; 7) Clemson ; 20) N. Carolina ; 22) VA Tech ; 31) Louisville ; 32) Wake Forest Big East - Georgetown/Providence loser other 3 -23) Creighton ; #28 ) Villanova ; #29 St. Johns committee last year screwed west virginia and took Charlotte from Conference USA hopefully, Kentucky can beat the upset kid...Florida Atlantic if they do, I still think that the committee will give 3 at large bids to conference USA 16) Marshall ; #18) FIU ; #33) Charlotte if the committee....shows their usual love for ACC, Big East and conference USA...that accounts for 14 of the 25 at large bids (assumes Kentucky wins) that leaves 11 bids contenders for those 11 bids PAC 12 - #2 Washington ; #24 UCLA Big Ten - Penn State/Indiana loser and #21 Maryland ...will the power 5 loving committee show any love to #38 Michigan MAC - GSU/NIU loser ; #19 WVA ; #26 Akron west coast conference - #30 Portland ; #35 Loyola Marymount if we exclude Michigan and worst case....there are 7 upsets....there are 9 good teams competing for 4 at large spots I feel good about zips chances....if there are no upsets...if there are 4 or 5 or 6 upsets, I just do not trust the NCAA committee other teams ...that do not deserve bid....but a few years ago...the committee gave #44 NC State a bid...and screwed several teams in low 30's #40 Rhode Island #41 Northeastern #42 Central Arkansas #43 Cornell #45 VCU #46 Stanford

I had not looked at conference RPI rankings recently....MAC is pretty strong of course, they were super strong last year....and the NCAA screwed West Virginia last year and gave Charlotte an at large bid (even though West Virginia had defeated conference USA champ Marshall...and WVU had also defeated Charlotte 3-0 in regular season RankNCAA Division I Men's SoccerRPI 1Pac-12 Conference.5855 2Atlantic Coast Conference.5791 3Big East Conference.5594 4Mid-American Conference.5501 5Big Ten Conference.5455 6American Athletic Conference.5296 7Conference USA.5295 8Colonial Athletic Association.5252 9America East Conference.5003 10West Coast Conference.4985 11Atlantic 10 Conference.4953 12Ivy League.4944

very few games today...involving zips opponents...or teams in the top 40 of RPI 1 pm....horizon league final - #107 Cleveland State vs. #92 Oakland 4 pm...last regular season Ivy league game for zip opponent Yale ....Ivy League automatic qualifier Princeton (6-0-0 in league) vs. Yale 4-0-2 in league) 4 pm....Princeton has automatic Ivy league bid...Cornell is 4-2-0 in league as they have lost to Princeton and Yale...somehow...Cornell is in the mix for an at large bid as they are #29 in country....they play #181 Columbia today...Columbia is 1-10-4 overall and 0-4-2 in league... Cornell strength of schedule will be hurt today 7:05 Atlantic Sun final...#53 Lipscomb 11-3-2 vs. #36 Central Arkansas 11-5-0 10 pm....west coast conference has no tourney....#50 Santa Clara has already earned automatic bid...with 5-0-1 conference record....they play #38 Loyola Marymount 12-4-1...4-2-0 in league....Loyola Marymount could move up a bit with a win 10 pm....Portland is also in west coast conference....they have highest RPI in league at #30 despite being 3-2-1 in league..they are 9-6-1 overall...they did beat UCLA early in the season and they crushed Northern Illinois 4-0 last week...Portland plays #182 San Francisco...San Fran is 2-12-1 overall and 0-5-1 in league.... as of right now....Akron is still #23 in RPI...numbers 23 to 26...are very close 21. Maryland .5853 22. VA Tech .5846 23. Akron .5807 24. Penn State .5807 25. Creighton .5806 26. UCLA .5799 27. Villanova .5767 28. Northern Illinois .5757 29. Cornell .5736 30. Portland .5733 31.
