  1. I can't take this guy too serious when he says Rossi may replace Brian Thomas at LB. If the guy doesn't know the names of the starters on the team, he probably isn't too up on other things. I caught that too. If he was on the fence with regards to continuing his blog coverage of the Zips, you may have just nudged him to stop
  2. Awesome read that provides great insight as to why Nagbe justly won the Hermann! Thanks for posting it, Zip_ME87!
  3. Please upload to youtube and post immediately! Now THAT'S what I call Zips passion!
  4. That's what they get for firing a perfectly good coach in Stan Joplin. Or for recruiting point shavers. Point taken, although it’s debatable how much blame Joplin deserved for a problem that started with the football program, then permeated the UT athletic department. And, technically, he recruited players who would later go on to become point shavers. Besides if you listen to most Rocket fans, Stan was fired primarily for having a mediocre record and not getting enough butts in the seats.
  5. Another Story on Goodman
  6. Hey Zip fans! Did any of you hear anything just now? No? I didn't think so.
  7. That's what they get for firing a perfectly good coach in Stan Joplin.
  8. I can't argue too much with having the Zips at #6. We'll see very quickly weather Ball St is really #1. IMHO, they've been a sleeping giant for a few years now. Also, here's a correction for you. The Akron-CMU game is on SUNDAY at the JAR.
  9. Although Montreal won't join MLS until 2012, Evan Bush is currently undergoing a tryout with the Impact.
  10. All high school coaches have to do that. There was some excitement among Zips fans when it was learned that Taylor was going to be a Zip. You said he was "highly recruited". He absolutely was not.
  11. Out of the myriad 3+ star players he signed, maybe 5 or 6 over his career ever became starters. Most never saw the field. The recruiting services don't keep track of things so far back, but I seem to remember that Jason Taylor, Dwight Smith, Reggie Corner, and Chase Blackburn were highly recruited coming out of high school. JT's HS coach had to shop him around according to the "must read" in THIS ZNO thread
  12. C-Bus Dispatch article on current parity in the MAC East. It's interesting that Coles is stating publicly that he doesn't think we've seem the REAL Akron team just yet.
  13. Where'd this come from? I haven't heard anything like that. Their interactions with myself and others. If you think it’s bad now, just IMAGINE how rough it would be if you were still uakronkid
  14. Well I'm an AKRON supporter, who is certainly not sold on iCoach at this point. But I'm willing to see what he can do with an entire class of iRecruits. As for your 2nd question, Nick Rossi selected the Zips over WVU and Temple. You can decide whether the 'eers are a quality BCS team or not.
  15. Great article. Thanks JZ. JT should have been a Steeler. I'll never forgive Tom Donahoe & Cowher for missing on JT in that draft. I'm always excited to see a Woodland Hills guy play for the Zips. Loved Brandon Payne. Agreed! We need to tap that resource once again. Payne had as much heart as any player the Zips have ever had. He was never the same after the knee injury, but he still managed to contribute.
  16. "Must Read" on JT
  17. IMHO, Mel Blount is one of the very few players whose play trancends "football eras". I truly believe he could compete in today's NFL and there aren't many players from the '70s for whom I would make that claim.
  18. I've said this before on U@B's board. Starks has always reminded me of Eric Dickerson with his "high" running style. He doesn't have the blazing speed of Craig James' Pony Express backfield mate, but he is more powerful.
  19. Excellent work, MDZip!
  20. +1 Updated Rivals Rankings now have ATH Tyler Williams as a 3 star. They also reflect the AJ Fox verbal.
  21. Certainly Daryl deserves a lot of credit, but it was McNees' 3 that had me believing we would win the game. Let's hope this game is exactly the confidence boost that Steve, and the team, needed to start a winning streak of their own.
  22. Saw him and HS teammate DJ Bettinger play a lot when they were both just starting out in 3rd and 4th grade. Back then, Larry JR actually preferred soccer so perhaps this contributed to his being a "late bloomer". OK, so maybe growing something like 7 inches after his FR year may have had something to do with it too If he does wind up with the Zips, I'd like to think the Mechanical Engineering department might expand their vehicle competitions to include drag racing!
  23. I'm thinking he meant to say "size ISN'T that important to them"? This would make more sense in the context of the discussion. In terms of his playing LB, it all depends on whether March can put on a good 30-35 LB by the time he's a senior without losing any speed. We don't know how extensive his strength training has been in the past. Maybe he has some upside in this area? Mike Thomas (listed at 5'11", but probably closer to 5'9") was a pretty decent LB here, but his stature probably limited his ability to play at a higher weight (listed at 220 LB last year). Hopefully, March is a legit 6' (not that this is particularly tall for a LB).
  24. GSH was a pretty interesting flick, and Exchange Street Elite works for me. But I was actually thinking about Buchtel's Brigade independent of this list so I'll place that number 1. I really like the idea, BTW
