Went to Bloomington with my wife this weekend and figured my observations might fit best here. 1. Georgio Bowers is a FOOTBALL PLAYER. He is consistently near the ball on special teams and he’s a good tackler. He also displays a lot of emotion and carries it with him to the bench. We need more young guys like him. 2. The biggest improvement in PN7’s game I noticed was the use of his checkdowns. He didn’t miss too many opportunities (making something out of nothing) in that regard. 3. I LOVED the way the staff had PN7 come out and immediately work with quick, possession passes. He actually got into a rhythm this game, and I think that was a big factor. 4. I don’t think Mondo has been healthy all year long. I give the guy credit for sticking it out, but you can see every time he comes in or out of the game that his mobility is very limited. I recall him coming out very early in the ‘Cuse game seemingly in a lot of pain. Maybe that’s when it all started. 5. Jalil Carter WILL return a kickoff for a TD this year. 6. IU’s offense will score points in the Big 10. It would be near the top of the MAC, IMHO. The size they have at receiver made for a particularly difficult matchup for our secondary. 7. IU’s defense is not very good (poor tacklers). They’d be middle of the pack in the MAC. I think the Zips offense will likely face better defenses in the next two games. 8. IU fans are a nice bunch. One who had made the trip to Akron last year went out of his way to compliment our new stadium. Most were quite civil. Several I talked to after the game focused on the two dropped TD passes and agreed the game should have been closer. They LOVE Bill Mallory. Maybe that’s why they’ve taken a “wait and see” attitude with Lynch’s squads. 9. IU has this mini-gridiron in the open end of “The Quarry”, where kids pack the field and play ALL GAME LONG. I don’t think the Info is set up too well for a similar feature, but it proved a nice distraction between plays (like watching an ant farm). 10. One-time Zip LB recruit Chase Hoobler (Orrville) was the IU defensive scout team “player of the week”. 11. Zipswin! is my early nominee for Zip fan of the year (if not the decade).

What if the opponent is offensively 1-dimensional, with a crappy quarterback? Interesting historical note: Garrett Wolf ran for around 200yards against us twice in 2005, and we beat Northern both times (going off memory, but I believe it is true). I think he (Wolfe) was hurt during the 1st game and limited to under 100. But their backup QB (Nicholson IIRC?) had a field day before finally losing out to Getsy in a shootout. I agree with assessment that NIU is probably more run-dependent than most teams. IF the Zips can limit them on the ground, maybe the secondary won't be as exposed against a team that clearly would prefer not to pass. I don't know much about NIU's receivers. Hopefully they're not all big like Indiana's. That was a matchup nightmare.

Someone call this guy a cab..... I'll say one thing. If there EVER was a time for an opponent to overlook another, this would be it. IU physically dominated us at the INFO last year, the 2010 Zips have stumbled out of the blocks, and the Hoosiers could be excused if they are peeking a little ahead to the Big10 season. Bill Lynch has a very difficult task on his hands in getting IU to take this game seriously.

My wife and I plan to be there, but we'll probably just barely make it to the game on the way back from Chicago. We're just going to wing it on tickets, hoping to catch a break at the last minute.

DaShawn Brown. Kenny Chapman (although, to be fair, I think this guy puts up HUGE numbers if Weems would have been a better Passer than a Pitcher). Lew Lawhorn. Matt Carter. Nate Robinson (I think French predicted MAC defensive POY for him).

1. I was counting at the snap sometimes..1-2-3-3.5...sack. I didn't count every snap, but I remember doing it at least twice. 2. I didn't notice many shotguns, but I agree with you. One things I DID notice.....the lack of a fullback. Did Austin Bailey play at all? He makes for a decent check down option.

Thanks for the correction On his BG bio, I mistook his HS graduation year of 2009 and being his last year playing HS ball You make good points about playmakers. While Gary Pride's abilities on downfield routes are questionable, I think he'd make a pretty good slot receiver for these quick developing plays (jailbreak screens, quick slants, etc). The TEs HAVE to become more involved also. Ladrach looked good on his one catch late in the Kentucky game.

I saw Miami and BG both play last weekend. Both have better QBs. BTW everyone, Miami played great against a bigger and faster CSU team. They made plays, they caught passes and generally executed a good game plan. I could write the same thing about BG against Marshall. Both had big and early leads like we could have had...like we had against GW until we choked it away. Both of these teams played non-bcs D-1A schools and won. They have no different physical abilities than the Zips....same size, same speed, our QB actually has a stronger arm than either. The only difference is they make plays. Both games were entertaining to watch because both teams were relatively equally matched and the best team that day won. My God, why are we playing three BCS teams in the same year. We are just stupid. We should be playing teams like CSU, Marshall, Tulsa, ECU, New Mexico, etc. Are those better QB's true Sophs? BG's Matt Schilz is a true FR and Miami's Zac Dysert is a true SO. I'll admit, Skip's early concerns about PN7 seem to have some validity. But I think we need to stick with him, at least over the next three games. IF he shows any improvement in this stretch, I think it bodes well for the remainder of the season. If not........then I'm not against a change. I will say this, though. The next three defenses the Zips face are better than some are giving credit. IU will be big and athletic. NIU always plays excellent D under Kill (hope he's OK, BTW). And while we all hate to give K.E.N.T. any credit, their defense is a VERY good MAC defense this year.

I think the issue is the version of Java. Just downloaded the most recent version of Java (Which I already had) so I don't think that is it. I got a message that I need an OLDER version of Java to get chat to work. Nice pressure!!!
