  1. I hate to say it, but I think Dougie has a better chance at saving his job at this point in time.
  2. Man, what happened to the "it's the MAC, anything can happen" and "we're coming into the easy part of our schedule now" sentiment????I think the Bobcats are clearly a better team. But they don't usually play well in Akron. I'll take Akron and the 4 or 5 points.OU 27UA 24
  3. Have you seen them actually play? I see this team, since they play in the WAC. The way they played vs Col St., yesterday, they would have struggled against Akron or K-ent State. They're maybe in the top-90 this year, and I give you, that's their best performance in a decade. As far as Ohio and Bowling Green, Cap'n, Bee Gee looked like the favorites in the MAC East the first two weeks, playing a top-25 Missouri very close on the road. Somehow, they left their game in Huntington WVa. Ohio? What game indicates that they can claim to be a contender? Buffalo, even at 1-3 is still my pick in the East. Temple may be #2. We know who the bottom three are. You're correct in that I have yet to see Idaho play. But they did BEAT CSU. Now I know the Rams aren't great, but they're not horrible either. Getting back to the original point (NIU), I HAVE seen them play against Wisconsin. They matched up physically very well versus the Badgers in a arrow defeat. I think the Huskies also overlooked Idaho, probably giving the Vandals about as much credit as you are If I recall, NIU dug themselves a hole in that one and their comeback fell short. NIU isn't built very well for overcoming large deficits. I still think they'll give CMU all they can handle. I'll bet Bill Cubit agrees with me.BTW while I think Buffalo was pronounced dead way too early this year, I don't think they have a realistic chance at the MAC East at this point. Time will tell.
  4. Please! Northern lost last week to an awful Idaho Vandal club. Watching them struggle to beat CSU tonight at their cubby dome, I can see how they lost to EMU last season. While I've felt WMU is overrated all along, perhaps the Huskies can give as good an effort as UBuff, if that game's in DeKalb. But I think CMU will have their toughest contest vs Toledo. Where is that game at?It's nice to discuss the always exciting Mid American Conference! Is there a sarcastic/cynical version of I just wish my school were even competitive against these mediocre outfits. Ohio's surprise win @ BeeGee today might give them more momentum. Or it might make them overconfident. Let's hope its the latter! Idaho HAS been awful recently, but most definitely not this year. They are 4-1 with the only loss being 42-23 AT a much improved Washington team.I agree with Cap'n on OU. They are solid. A lot of people ripped me for calling the Central game a must win. And maybe I deserved that. I wonder if anyone thinks THIS (OU game) is must win?
  5. I think it was after the Cincy loss when the decision was made to nix these for the rest of 2008. But if you think about it, the UC game was the closest the football Zips have come to really breaking through recently.
  6. Marshall won in the MAC because of numerous recruiting violations that have now finally caught up to them (hence the recent suckage in C-USA).And Marshall had probably the best facilities in the MAC at the time.Joan Edwards Stadium was built in 1991 (the stadium was 6 years old at the time and the largest in the MAC) and they had been ramping up for D-1 since 1990.edit* and on your Shane comment, you fail to realize that he was the offensive coordinator that developed Roethlisberger while under Hoepner.OR the offensive coordinator who road Big Ben's coattails while under Hoepner. Time will tell.
  7. Domination!!! 3-0Zemanksi from Nanchoff
  8. Excellent! Keep it up Zips!!You know, this is crazy but I've been following the CBS college sports scoreboard, and they have practically EVERY D-1 game on there except the game involving the NUMBER ONE TEAM IN THE NATION!!!! I'm not sure what gives here. Usually I can count on CBS college sports, whether the gametracker scoreboard or the ticker on the TV station (which is generally MUCH better than the ESPNU ticker for college soccer).
  9. That's the difference between so-called "long ball" versus possession play. Often teams that are inferior from a skill standpoint opt for the "long ball".
  10. Here is a nice article on the Nanchoff family and their past and current impact on University of Akron soccer.Link
  11. Yes!!! Can't seem to find a gametracker for this one.
  12. We've traditionally had success against OU at home. But, the Bobkitties are looking pretty decent so far this year. So I look at it this way. IF we can knock them off, maybe that'll be the catalyst to turn this season around. Go Zips!!!
  13. Let's hope the comparative football efforts versus Indiana don't factor in his decision
  14. Zips 2Red and Silver 0
  15. Source for this? Not that I'm doubting it, just curious.I'm not sure if this is the original source, but I just found this.Link
  16. I looked closely at the picture but I'm not sure what you were referring to. Was it something specific to the Zips? So get your lazy butt out of bed and answer my question. It is nearly 4 AM there, the day is already wasting away. I think Z.I.P. is probably referring to the fact that, in the photo, Steve-O is battling none other than Argentine national Lionel Messi who is regarded by quite a few as the best all-around player on the planet.
  17. I sure hope the Structural Engineer responsible for this went somewhere other than UA! Of course, he or she can always blame in on the Aerodynamicist
  18. The early line has OPEN giving seven. I'm not sure if that sounds like a guy who is ready to start Nicely (or Pride ) at the moment. If not, what sould the "big changes" be?
  19. You are assuming that Patrick doesn't transfer if there is a new "regime" Does anybody think a QB can make a OL look bad, or look better? Is it possible Patrick could make the line look better by making quicker decisions and having a pocket presence? He won't transfer once he sees the throng of quality candidates that I'M lining up Sure there is a symbiotic relationship betweeb QB and O-line. There may be some help available for the O-line in that regard. If the quick passing game gets going, perhaps that opens up the run a little. I don't think Patrick can help with the consecutive false starts though.
  20. If Nicely is a substantial upgrade at this point, then JD should play him (although I kind of like the idea of saving Patrick's 4 years for the next regime). If the O-line doesn't play better, it probably won't matter a whole lot. But I don't think there is any risk to "ruining his confidence" by playing him regardless. If he has all the tools (physical, mental, emotional) he'll be able to bounce back from some adversity.
  21. I'm not quite sure about the tone of the question but I'll gladly throw in my 2 cents. I still think he's a FINE football player who will only get better. As a RS FR he leads the team in tackles and he's shown grit, hustle and athletic ability. When was the last time a Zip LB had 2 INT's through the 1st four games of the season? He's only one of eleven out there. Oh, and he's a good special teams player too.
  22. If we are really concerned about the long term success of the program, there is really nothing to gain by firing JD immediately. A petty attempt at retribution will do no good for anyone. The Info itself is a visible enough reminder of the commitment this adminstration has towards the football program. In fact, I would argue that overly harsh treatment of a current HC will only serve to scare some potential candidates away. The only scenario I can see for making the move immediately is if you already have "your guy" on staff (like KD under Hip). While I've liked what Okruch has apparently brought to the team, one has to wonder why he hasn't been offered a HC gig after all these years. And I believe HC experience at some level could be a perceived requirement by the administration. I'm in the camp that thinks Harris would not be interested (and I'm fine with that). As far as Montgomery goes, I'm beginnning to see why the sweaters look at him as the guy who tried to turn the cradle (of coaches) into the grave Looking back, Shane's big accomplishment that lead him to being names Miam's HC was his time as Miami's OC from 2001-2004. Gee, I think just about anyone could have had success given the QB they had during most of that time. So, no thanks. In summary, I don't see "THE guy" on this staff.
  23. Nope, I still agree with me.I still agree with me as well. But since it didn't happen at the end of last season, I think it shouldn't happen until the end of this season. I'll be rooting for a turnaround regardless. I just thinks it's nearly unfathomable at this point. As another poster pointed out on an other thread, the team's general body language told the whole story for me yesterday. I don't know how you change something like that over the next 2 months.
  24. A couple of last minute things have popped into my head on the eve of this game.1) I believe it was the year of the MAC Championship when a very average CMU team came into the Rubber Bowl and defeated the the Zips pretty soundly after losing at HOME to a typically poor EMU team the week prior. It reminded me that this league can be hard to predict at times.2) I keep thinking about the far less than expected quality of the offensive line play. And I remembered something JD said coming out of summer camp. He said something to the effect that, while the team might not have been permitted to compete as hard as they have in the past, this was partly by design to avoid the injuries that have plagued the team (D-line in particular) over the past few summer camps. Is it possible that the slow start we have witnessed by the O-line is directly related to an "easier" summer camp? If so, I would think this can be rectified in practice. I'd love to see them get very physical tomorrow.Go Zips!!! Snip the Chips!!!
