I can think of around sixty one million reasons why we shouldn't drop down to the FCS level. While I'll agree that GP make some good points, I really believe this topic is irrelevant to Dr. Proenza and the people that matter at AKRON. Could SOME of the MAC teams drop down? Sure. That, in itself, might be good for the remaining teams in the league.

NCAA second round vs. South Florida

From where I was standing, it didn't look good. He had to be carried off the field. I'm afraid he may have a broken shinbone just below the knee, but I hope I'm very wrong. They said he had ice on his hamstring. Hopefully just a pulled hammy.Today's Beacon article says it's a groin injury. Caleb states they're not sure if he'll be available Sunday or not.Ohio Dot Com Linky -
NCAA second round vs. South Florida

And along the bench side fence line there were several people sitting in the trees to watch. My wife and I saw them too. It was like a scene from an old baseball movie. Of course, my lack of planning meant that we also were on the outside looking in. But it was still a very enjoyable experience. They need to sell tickets to the Info's top levels for the remaining tournament games -
After browsing a little more on the internet, I stumbled upon a D-2 coach who is very intriguing. He's Blaine Bennett of top ranked (D-2) Central Washington. His team has been dominant (see 1st link) in all phases this year against a strong (by D-2 standards) schedule. While he is a native of Washington, he has spent some time as a assistant in the midwest (Purdue, Michigan St.). Below (2nd link) is an old bio from when he was hired by Central Washington in January of 2008.Linky1Linky2Note: I had NO idea that since there are so few D-2 teams out west, many of them play "home and home" each year. Strange.

Massillon vs. McKinley at InfoCision

The "QB formerly known as CJ7" for the Zips became CJ1 when he transferred to Morgan St. Unless it's ZN etiquette to forget any ex-Zip who has gone on to another school. In which case.....yeah, who's CJ1? -
NCAA Tournament Seeding

Ummm, I'm baffled... maybe Butler doesn't have a regulation size field????You might be onto it. Apparently they play homes games in the "Butler Bowl", an ancient (built in 1928) multi-purpose facility in Indy that is home to both the Bulldog Football and Soccer teams. It seems very likely that the soccer pitch dimensions would be restricted by a structure this old. It's interesting that Butler got in as an at-large, losing the Horizon championship to Green Bay. Butler already owns a 2-1 victory over the Hoosiers IN Bloomington. Butler Bowl Wiki -
NCAA Tournament Seeding

Not only is Indiana IN, but according to the story below (link) #12 seed Butler has to GO ON THE ROAD to face the winner of IU and Kenny Lola's Louisville squad. May the conspiracy theorists sink their teeth into THIS one!LinkAll in all I like the bracket from the Zips standpoint. We can't complain. -
NCAA Tournament Seeding

Am I missing something? I have ESPNews on and I've seen nothing on the NCAA tourney selection yet.Edit: I see on the UCONN website where the selection will occur SOMETIME between 5:30 and 6:30. -
Count me in on both the thanks to the Temple fans here and the props for their football team. It's been a while since the Zips were thoroughly humiliated at home like that. I agree with the sentiment that the Owls could very well win the MAC Champ game this year. Now if this DOES occur, I really hope the MAC office decides to "strike while the iron's hot" regarding full MAC membership. Temple's football following has never been extensive, but with a possible conference championship and a bowl game this year it could very well be on the rise. THIS would be the time to say you're either in all the way or you're out. If Temple deems themselves to be too good in hoops for the MAC and if C-USA picks them up, so be it (the Big East is NOT going to offer them to come back anytime soon.....I'm not saying it won't ever happen).

Massillon vs. McKinley at InfoCision

That'll be another nice showcase for the stadium. I'm sure glad it's at the Info instead of at Dix. I'll bet they attract the largest crowd since CJ#1's return. -
Buckzip I like and respect your posts here, but let me challenge you and the other posters who talk about the talent we have on this team. Who exactly are you talking about? Go beyond Wagner, Lemon, Nicely and a couple other frequently-heard names. I'll tell you what I see: slow, soft, small, unathletic, unintelligent players who don't match up well with solid teams and get beat play after play.I see LaFrance signaling "field goal" when the Temple kicker puts it through the Akron uprights on a kick off from the 45 after a terrible face mask penalty by the Zips on the previous play, a Temple touchdown.I see Bowser having a blast on the sideline, as the score is sliding up into the 40s and 50s for Temple, yucking it up with other offensive players as the Info now has about 1,000 people (maybe) left in the stands. Bowser is racing around as if he has no injury, Mr. Prankster and his merry bunch (including the aforementioned LaFrance) while I'm contemplating a brown bag on my head for the next game. So, someone please provide specifics regarding the "talent" that is supposedly on this team. Who will magically turn into players when JD disappears?Regarding LaFrance's mock FG gesture, I also thought it to be somewhat sickening. But where was the special teams coach grabbing him by the facemask and letting him hear about it once he got back to the sidelines? The next HC needs to run a tighter ship in that regard. As far as talent on the team, I don't see how you can leave out Almondo Sewell, who is probably the second best Zip D-Lineman in history IMHO. His game might not translate to the next level, but I'm sure EVERY MAC coach would love to have him. I would really like to see how he would perform in a 4-man front. Hazime looks like a keeper to me as well. Harvey has shown promise at 6'4" 290 LB. Jalil Carter is talented, but needs to be more consitent. The one kid who has impressed me lately is Safety Kevin Davis. This guy actually HITS coming out of the secondary (something we haven't seen since the Dwight Smith days). On offense, I believe the O-Line has enough ability that it could be overhauled rather quickly. The QB spot is a given. Alexander and Torrence have shown flushes. Beyond LaFrance, the receivers are somewhat unknown. So this needs to be an area of focus for the next guy.

I believe it is on ESPN NEWS at 5:30 pm.

"Real" Zips fans should be able to separate school rivalries from interacting with individuals. Screw uncivil behavior from anyone, especially if they are Zips fans representing Zips Nation.I appreciate the support Dave from Green. I did not come on here to start an argument, I came on here to pose a question I wanted answered. When I felt YSU was unfairly attacked, I decided to defend YSU like any normal fan would. You guys can claim you are averaging 20,000 a game, but come on now, you cannot tell me with a straight face that 20,000 actual people are showing up at your games. I can see the first game and the Can't game, but you had a game, the same weekend we had a game, in which both schools clearly overstated the actual attendance. While I expect a drop-off tonight and with the EMU game, I have no reason to think the stated attendance figures up to this point have been inflated. I could be wrong, but the process seems to be different than the old Rubber Bowl days.

With a prediction like that, you are most certainly a boob. A pretty big boob, in fact. Maybe even as big a boob as those pictured with the sunglasses. And I thought I was being subtle
-
Maybe I'm just a boob, but I have a feeling the Zips will roll in this one with absolutely nothing to lose.Zips 31Owls 20

Well, one coach told me Jimmy would be playing in the NBA. He's now the HC at VCU! So, who knows?!Hmmm that wasn't a very smart thing to say
-
I agree this is a little less than I expected. We'll see if it moves much during the week. If it doesn't, Vegas and others picked a good one from THEIR perspective.

+1 I was a little worried about a jinx
-
You do realize that Kelly was never a coordinator for any FBS (1-A) school, let alone a BCS/Top 10 program.
-
This is way off-topic, but wouldn't it have been interesting to see if Jimmy could have put on about 35 pounds and tried out as a DE in football? As far as hoops is concerned, Jimmy seems to play better when the focus isn't on him as much. With the number of players scrambling for PT this year, maybe this will actually benefit him. I'd much rather get 18-20 quality minutes out of him than 30 minutes with a few lapses in concentration.
-
If it's even possible, I think Temple's dependence on the run is even greater than the numbers indicate. I've seen their QB Vaughn Charlton on TV a few times and he has to be one of the worst at the position I have ever seen at the FBS (1-A) level. It speaks volumes of the remaining talent available to the Owls that they are winning with him behind center.Of course, game-planning to stop the run and actually carrying it out are two different things. Bernard Pierce is as good a FR running back as the Zips have played against in a long, long time. If the Zips pick up where they left off with the run support from Saturday, perhaps we can at least make him work for his yardage or even get him to cough it up a few times. As pointed out, the Zip O-Line must play well, perhaps even better than they did against Can't. Temple's front seven was particularly impressive when I watched them against Navy.Considering everything, I agree the Owls might be ripe for the picking. The Golden Boy might have his work cut out for him in getting them ready to perform well against a 2-7 team.Edit: I didn't realize Charlton had been replaced by Stewart. That was a matter of time I suppose. The game plan should remain the same of course.
-
I'm in agreement that JD had the team ready to play on Saturday. And I thank him for that as well (and nary a rugby punt.....yes!!!)In relayed news, the "other" head coach in the 2005 Motor City Bowl has apparently been let go by Memphis (ESPN Link). Western Kentucky's coach is out now too. The carousel has begun.ESPN Link

Oh there isn't a QB in the conference right now who I'd rather have over PN16. Patrick is good now, and his ceiling is way up there in the stratosphere. But I don't think you're giving Spencer Keith enough credit. Or maybe I'm not giving Keith Partridge enough credit. Now DANNY Partidge might have been something. After I, I believe he kicked Donny Osmond's behind all over the ring some years back.
-
Just popping over to say congrats and you guys have one hell of a QB! I watched the game on 360 and was massively impressed with how much he has grown up in just a half season! Thanks! UB's Maynard and K.E.N.T's Keith are pretty darn good QB's as well. Throw in Miami's Dysert and the MAC East has some very good, young talent at this position.
